Chapter Fourteen: Justice

"Deku, oh my gosh, why are you in a wheelchair?!"

Izuku winced and gave a nervous smile up at Uraraka whose pink cheeks were flushed in a concerning color. "I-I'm okay," he said. "It's just that the doctor doesn't want me standing up in case I hurt my wound anymore."

His mom, All Might, Uraraka, Iida, Todoroki, and himself were all standing outside the doors of the courthouse. Most of his classmates had wanted to come to the trial in support, but Izuku had declined, knowing that they'd fill up most of the pews which would probably not be allowed. So, Uraraka, Iida, And Todoroki were selected to come, as they were the ones most involved. A doctor from the hospital would also meet them a little later, once the trial was closer to starting.

Iida frowned. "I see. Still, I don't approve of you coming to the trial so shortly after the… incident."

Izuku sighed, staring down at his lap. "I'm not letting Nakatomi get away with what he's done. I'm going to give my testimony, and then it'll all be over and done with."

"And you're sure you want to go through with this?" All Might asked him. "It's not too late to go back. We can explain everything to the lawyer-"

"No, All Might, I'm fine." Izuku's eyes lifted back up and traveled across his friends, his mentor, and finally, his mother. They all seemed worried, and he hated it. But he also knew, right then, that this wouldn't be over until he finally faced the villains in the court. His stomach churned with uncertainty at the thought of seeing them both face to face. No, he had to go through with it.

He slowly nodded. "Yeah. I'm ready."

With a sigh, All Might began to wheel him into the courthouse, with his friends following along behind.

Izuku's hired lawyer, Mr. Hashimoto, met them by the front of the pews where they were to be seated. Izuku had never personally met him before, as All Might and Tsukauchi handled most of the trial details, but he seemed like he was a nice man, and clearly very smart.

"Alright, well, we better go and find a seat now, Midoriya," Iida told him once Izuku had settled into his own pew. "The trial will be starting soon."

Todoroki nodded. "Good luck. We'll be rooting for you."

"Thanks," Izuku said, his tone a little weak. "See you later."

Uraraka gave a smile. "Bye, Deku!"

His friends moved further down the pews while his mother, All Might, and Mr. Hashimoto stayed beside him.

All Might clapped a hand down on Izuku's shoulder. "You nervous?"

"A little," Izuku admitted. "But it's not a big deal."

"Baby, I just want you to know how proud I am of you," Inko said, her eyes gleaming with tears. "I know how hard this is for you. I didn't want you to have to do it…"

"Mom, it's fine. It'll be over before we know it." He gave his mother a reassuring smile. "Let's get settled in the pew, okay? The judge will be out soon."

Nodding a little frantically, Inko hiked up her black dress and took a seat beside her son.

Before long, everyone in the courtroom was seated, and Izuku's eyes flickered to the front of the courtroom. He sucked in a breath upon seeing the judge take his seat before them all, looking incredibly serious for the trial ahead.

A new door opened on the other side of the room, and that was when Izuku's heart stopped. Nakatomi and Shigeru. Both men were tied up in chains, and many policemen crowded close to their sides. He even noticed a pro hero standing off in the corner, likely having been posted there in the event either villain tried to make an escape.

Once Nakatomi and Shigeru had been brought to their designated spot, the judge cleared his throat and looked across them all. "I hereby announce that this trial has begun. We will begin with a review of what has happened, and then..."

Izuku didn't register much more than that, his mind wandering to the worst. He couldn't help but feel terrified that either Nakatomi or Shigeru would break loose from their chains and enact revenge against him. In fact, his mind had zoned off so badly that he didn't realize Nakatomi had been called to the stand with Hashimoto until both men were already up front.

"Mr. Nakatomi, to begin, did you send this man after the witness, Izuku Midoriya?" Hashimoto began, pointing to Shigeru who sat to the side.

Nakatomi's mouth curled up into a grin. "Heh… can't really say, mister. My memory's a little, eh, foggy."

Hashimoto was unfazed. "You will give the court a complete answer."

Nakatomi rolled his eyes. "Maybe I did, maybe I didn't. All I know is that this brat here is the reason why I'm about to be locked away, and he should be the one in these chains instead of me."

Izuku flinched, and All Might squeezed his shoulder in support.

"I will ask you to stop deflecting the question. I..."

While Hashimoto continued talking, Izuku whispered to All Might, "He'll be convicted, won't he, All Might? There has to be enough evidence."

"Yes, of course," All Might said quickly. Maybe too quickly, for it didn't make Izuku feel any better. "You have nothing to worry about, my boy."

The next moment, Hashimoto was speaking out to Izuku directly. "Izuku, is this the man that came after you?" Hashimoto now pointed at Shigeru, who was scratching at the chains that intertwined around his hands in the chair across from Nakatomi. A policeman stood on the left side of his chair, ready to act at any moment. "And can you confirm he was in relations with Nakatomi throughout all this?"

Shigeru's expression was dark, almost murderous as he stared over at Izuku.

Izuku's eyes lingered on the other man for a long moment before he finally managed out a whisper, "Yes."

"And did he shoot you last Friday night with," Hashimoto lifted up a bag that held a pistol from a table nearby, "this gun?"

Again, Izuku answered, "Yes."

"I see." Hashimoto glanced at the judge. "Your Honor, I have a few more people I would like to bring out to question: those who were in the store that day with Midoriya when the robbery happened. We will review their testimonies, and come to the conclusion of whether Nakatomi and Shigeru are guilty or not."

The judge nodded.

As Nakatomi was led back to his seat and the other witnesses were brought up, Izuku's hands began to sweat and his mind threatened to space out even more. He was aware of Hashimoto beginning his questioning, asking the store witnesses about what happened and what they saw. All of them answered plainly, and their testimonies matched the police statement Izuku had already given Tsukauchi.

Still, Izuku couldn't help but fear for the worst. What if there weren't enough witnesses? What if there was a slight inconsistency that set both Nakatomi and Shigeru free, and they could keep going out and hurting people?

A/N. I'm very sorry to disrupt the story, but while reviewing what I wrote of this back in 2018, I actually didn't write parts of this trial scene (I think I was too lazy back then), and I literally cannot force myself to write them now. I haven't watched MHA in a good 1-2 years and I can't exactly jump back into writing this story sine it's been so long. BUT... what I did do before was list what would happen for the rest of the trial (I also have filled in some parts in the story so far that I didn't previously write, but I am at my limit lol), so here is a short version of what happens next:

A few more witnesses come up that were in the store that day with Deku, but they say they were either in another aisle or panicking too much to know what was going on during the robbery. The parents with the two kids who Deku rescued do not show up which worries Deku. He is the only witness who has a whole testimony of what happened.

Finally, Deku is called up to the stand and he tells his story which takes a while to get out, but he manages it, despite glares from Nakatomi and Shigeru.

Finally, the jury pronounces that Nakatomi and Shigeru are guilty of using their quirks in public, hurting people with said quirk, attempted murder, manhandling, etc., and get 30+ years in jail.

Deku's really relieved that it's all over but his shoulder is starting to hurt again. However, he's nervous about telling All Might because of how All Might is when Deku's hurt...

(END OF SUMMARY. SORRY FOR THE DISRUPTION BUT I AM NOT WRITING ALL THAT!)

"Hey, All Might, I…" Izuku trailed off, a little nervous. "My shoulder, it's kind of-"

"It's not hurting again, is it?" All Might asked in worry, tensing in his seat.

Izuku gave an embarrassed nod. The whole trial ordeal had been a little much for him to go through while injured, although he didn't want to admit it.

"Why didn't you say something earlier?"

"I mean, it… the trial just ended, and I only just realized it." Izuku squirmed in his wheelchair. "Can-can we go back now?"

"Baby?"

He turned his head to look at his mother, who was staring at him with wide eyes.

"Is something wrong?"

"His shoulder's hurting. We better go back to the hospital before it gets any worse, and so they can check him for a fever," All Might explained as he stood up, placing his hands on the back of Izuku's wheelchair. "At least we made it through the trial." He smiled gently. "It's all over now, young Midoriya."

A relieved smile spread across Izuku's face. "I-I know." And he was glad it was. He wasn't sure how much longer he'd have lasted if the trial was pushed back even further.

"Midoriya? Are you leaving?" That was Todoroki, Izuku realized, as he turned his head to the right and saw the other boy, along with Iida and Uraraka, standing there. They must have walked up shortly after the trial had ended but he hadn't seen them.

Izuku dipped his head. "Yeah… I'm just a little tired."

"Is it your shoulder?" Uraraka asked.

"No-"

"Yes, it is, and right now he needs his rest," All Might said sternly and rolled Izuku out of the pew. "You three can visit tomorrow once he's feeling better."

"Sorry," Izuku apologized. "And thank you guys for coming. It-" He reddened noticeably. "It means a lot."

"Of course, Midoriya!" Iida practically shouted, waving his arms up and down in a blur. "It is an honor to help out a friend who's already done so much for me! Justice has truly been served today! I applaud your bravery!"

Todoroki nodded. "We'll see you soon, Midoriya." Worry lines creased his brow. "And feel better."

"Feel better, Deku!"

"Rest well, Midoriya!"

As Izuku was rolled out of the courthouse, his mother and All Might at his sides, he knew that he truly couldn't be luckier to have such loyal friends- and that everything had turned out all right in the end after all.
