It was wrong.

Marcos knew from the start that what Viren was doing was wrong, wanting to rage was on Xadia.

A couple of weeks ago he would have probably been cheering with the rest of the soldiers as Viren announced his plans, but he had changed.

He used to to think Xadia deserved everything they got thrown at them, the humans being in the right for destroying the terrifying and heartless monsters that were the elves and dragons.

Then, one early morning while on patrol, he came across a whole group of elves.

He had ran, knowing he was already at an extreme disadventage at being alone but more so at the knowlegde that pretty much the only elves that ever crossed the border themselves were Moonshadow elves, assassins most of the time who thrived in the dark and in forests like the one he's been in.

One had been quick to catch up with him, sending him tumbling into a pool of mud before reaching him.

Marcos was always told to never show fear in front of enemies but those teachings were driven away by the terror he felt, begging for his life.

Then the elf moved it's, her, head and he saw a glimpse of her face under her hood.

Her face was soft and round, with large purple eyes that lookied at him in an unsure way.

She looked not much older than prince Callum.

She was a child.

A child who listened to his plea and left him alone.

Marcos had considered not telling anyone what happened, to lie and said he slipped if anyone asked why he was dirty, but he knew the elves wouldn't be there without a reason and it was his duty to report what happened, so he did.

He felt nervous when he and the other members of the crown guard were tasked with finding the elves before sundown.

He still felt a little scared of what could happen if a fight broke out but more so he just didn't want to fight that girl again.

He hated himself for feeling relieved when they didn't find the elves because just like everyone else, he realized the elves were targeting King Harrow.

In the end, despite all of the soldiers and guards best efforts, the elves were able to murder the king.

Yet despite this, Marcos still felt conflicted.

People talked. He had heard about Harrow killing the dragon king. He heard about how he had given Viren permission to kill an egg, a literal unborn baby.

He knew that Xadia didn't attack unprovoked.

He even understood that Katolis' beloved queen's death by the dragon king had been the dragon king defending his home against invaders who killed one of his subjects.

It was a bitter pill to swallow but humans weren't always the good guys and Xadia weren't always the bad guys.

Right now, he realized, humans would definately be the bad guys if they invaded Xadia.

No, they wouldn't just be the bad guys. They would be evil.

And while Marcos knew he couldn't stop it, he also wanted no part in it.

With that he stabbed his sword in the ground and walked away.
