"The Art of Chill"
Noah was using binoculars to check the island from a tree top. A pair of Baryonyxs was running around looking for something. Noah saw Pteranodons over the mountains. He sighed a disappointed sigh and returned to the others.
Down at the bottom of the tree everyone was waiting for Noah. "Hey Sammy, do you think this group needs a leader?" Summer asked.
"I think we're all pretty much leaders. Anyone can come up with an idea and take charge." Sammy said.
"Good point." Summer said.
Crash was throwing rock at a tree. Yaz was sitting next to the tree. She was annoyed Crash kept throwing rocks near her. She caught the fourth rock which caused him to stop.
Noah came back "Good news?" Sammy asked.
"Pteranodons are nesting in the mountains." Noah said.
"Dang it!" everyone said.
"So that's out." Sammy said.
"Grasslands, out because dinosaurs. Main Street because Rexy is nesting there, and most places because dinosaurs." Summer said.
"And that guy Kenji's penthouse is out because he's bad at math." Yaz said.
"No kidding track star." Crash said.
"So we got nowhere." Noah said.
"Well there's one place but pretty sure none of us are gonna like it." Summer said.
They returned to their old camp site. "Didn't we run away from this place because of Indy?" Crash asked.
"Well we can build a base using the wreckage." Summer said.
"Did ya make a video about building a tree house?" Sammy asked.
"Kinda." Summer said.
"Okay guess that's settles it let's clear that wreckage." Yaz said.
Yaz started limping over to the wreckage "Actually Yaz we're thinking you sit this one out." Noah said.
"What? No I can..." Yaz didn't finished as she fall on her back.
"It's nothing. I'm fine. I wanted to be on the ground." Yaz tried, hiding the pain.
"This isn't nothing! Your ankle is still hurt. All that running over the past few days didn't help any." Sammy said.
Noah had a map "Based on this symbol, there might be a clinic nearby."
"We'll see if there's anything for your ankle. Just rest here mate." Summer said.
"No way! I'm not sitting around while you go back out there. I can pull my own weight." Yaz said.
"Rest." Sammy said.'
She placed her hand on Yaz's shoulder "You're gonna need that ankle to win gold medals when we get off this island, okay?" Sammy asked.
"It's cute how you two became best friends again, then enemies, then friends again." Summer said.
"I'll stay behind." Crash said.
"Can it be someone else? Literally anyone else?" Yaz asked.
She tried to pull Sammy so she could stay.
"I'm with Yasmina." Summer said.
"Let's go." Noah said.
Both Yaz and Summer groaned.
Noah, Sammy, and Summer were to the walking to the clinic Sammy kneed down "Hey, guys, look at this!" Sammy said.
"It's a Stegosaurus plate! They shed them as they grow." Noah said.
"Oh, like a deer shedding antlers? 'Round March, you can't walk two feet without stumbling over 'em back home." Sammy said.
"Me and my sister compete to see who can find the most." Sammy said.
Noah smiled.
"You know, these look just like the marks the deer make." Sammy said.
She touched the rock the Stegosaurus was shedding "Helps them with the shedding. Maybe dinosaurs do the same thing!" she said.
"New behavior! That's so cool!" Noah said.
"Know what would be even cooler? If there was dung nearby, we could see what this stego ate for lunch!" Sammy said.
"TMI." Summer said.
Summer heard some whirring "What the?" she wondered what that noise was.
At camp Crash was checking the wreckage but bothered not too. He walked over to a tree and Yaz hopped over "That's it?" she asked him.
"Dude, you didn't even try." she said.
"Don't care at all." Crash said.
"Summer's idea is to sort through the debris. If you don't do it and I can't do it, who will do it?" Yaz asked.
"Don't care I've never cleaned my room after some kid named Darius helped trashed it so I pinned the mess on him." Crash said.
"And you're proud of that?" Yaz asked.
"Yes, yes, I am." Crash said.
Crash took his jacket off "Now start relaxing." he said.
Yaz sat next to him, annoyed by him.
"Need some quality time." Crash said.
He closed his eyes for a second then found Yaz was gone "Wow that was quick." Crash said.
He got up and grabbed a knife "This will have to do." he said.
The other three reached the clinic they grabbed boxes "Let's make this quick. Anything that can help Yaz's ankle." Noah said.
"Food!" Summer said, holding a can.
"Never thought I'd be excited to see canned fruit, but check out all this canned fruit!" Sammy said.
"Finally, something other than soggy pizza!" Summer said.
Noah found a small journal and decided to keep it.
"Hey guys!" Noah called out.
They opened another box "A compression bandage! This is exactly what Yaz needs!" Sammy said.
But she noticed something odd "All 20 feet of it." she said.
They heard dinosaurs. They walked around and found there are caged dinosaurs. "What is this place?" Summer asked.
"I'm guessing a veterinary station for herbivores." Noah said.
"It seems when everyone ran they got left behind." Summer said.
"Like us." Sammy said.
"They're out of food and water, too." Sammy said.
Sammy placed her hand on a Sinoceratops "You poor thing." she said.
They saw more dinosaurs caged "We have to do something!" Sammy said.
"We saw that Sinoceratops herd in the grasslands." Noah said.
"If we let her out..." Noah said.
"She could be with them and eat all the grass she'll ever want!" Sammy said.
"What to making this mission quick mates?" Summer asked.
"We're adapting, Summer!" Sammy said.
New mission: free the dinos!" Sammy said.
She opened the cage, freeing the Sinoceratops "Be free!" Sammy said.
The Sinoceratops got up and walked out of the cage but didn't feel ready to leave, likely because she's used to being there.
"That's fine. Be free to hang around here." Sammy said.
"Next up: Stegosauruses." Noah said.
"Yep, we've got another mission: free dinosaurs. I should probably get used to that." Summer said.
They freed Parasaurolophus and Stegosauruses then they heard a strange roar.
"Uh, guys?" Sammy called to the others.
They saw a Baryonyx in a cage "Baryonyx predator." Noah said.
"Predator?" Summer asked.
"So what do we do with her?" Summer asked.
"It's kind of a no brainer." Sammy said.
"Totally." Noah said.
"Obviously, we should free it." Sammy said.
At the same time Noah said "We should leave it."
"Wait. What?" Sammy asked.
"Okay." Summer said.
Crash was looking for Yaz. He had his knife out and he found Yaz trying to pull down veins "There you are." Crash said.
"What's that?" Crash asked.
"To move the camp debris. We use the sticks as levers, toss the vines over a branch and use them to haul the rest of the broken planks away." Yaz said.
"This is the exact opposite of what you're supposed to be doing, which is nothing." Crash said.
Yaz didn't listen "Just give the macho-woman act a rest, already?" Crash asked.
"Three-time state track champ, four time placing at nationals, twice in the International World Track Competition. I've competed in rain, sleet, snow, and each time, I've medaled. What does that say to you?" Yaz asked.
"You're crazy because running is hard, and why do that?" Crash asked.
"I don't give up, unlike some people." Yaz said.
"We're heading back to camp and you are resting, like it or not." Crash said.
He grabbed the stick Yaz was using to walk and she groaned in annoyance of Crash.
"You're coming back and I'll give it back." Crash said.
Yaz scoffs "No way. I'll get this stuff myself!" she said.
She fell down and it hurt.
"Yaz?" Crash asked.
"It's worse." she said.
"Dang." Crash said.
"I think I- I think I hurt it worse." Yaz said.
"What do we do now?" she asked.
Back to Sammy, Summer, and Noah "We can't free the predators!" Noah said.
"But why?" Sammy asked.
"I thought you cared about these animals." Sammy said
"I do, but I also care about going home, you know, uneaten?" Noah reminded Sammy.
"What do you think Summer?" the two asked Summer.
"I heard something." she said.
"Way to help, Sum." Noah said.
"If we free the herbivores, we should free the predators. It's only fair." Sammy said.
"You wanna free something that wants to have us as dinner?" Noah asked.
"We found them, which makes us responsible. So if we can't let them go, we'll have to come back every day to feed them." Sammy said.
"Baryonyxes eat more than 100 pounds of meat a day." Noah said.
"With this!" Sammy showed Noah some of the canned food.
"Peaches? They're carnivores, not omnivores." Noah said.
"Okay, fine. Where do we get that much meat?" Sammy asked.
Noah pointed at the Sinoceratops Sammy freed. "No!" Sammy said to Noah.
"Don't look at me like that. She's what they eat." Noah said.
The Sinoceratops seemed to understand what he said as she roared a bit.
"We're not feeding Maria to them." Sammy said.
"You've already named her?" Noah asked.
He got himself together. "It doesn't matter. Pretty sure they are not going to eat canned fruit or frozen pizza." Noah said.
"If I can't feed them, then we go back to plan A: release them into the wild." Sammy said.
Sammy ran over to the Baryonyx cage "We're not releasing them. Why would you want to?" Noah asked.
"Because they should get to go home. These guys didn't ask to be here. But they are, and now they're trapped, away from their families." Sammy said.
"Run!" Summer screamed.
Crash was carrying Yaz on his back, back to camp.
"If you ever tell anyone else about this-" Yaz said.
"Like I would ever." Crash said.
Crash nearly tripped on a broken wood "Don't fall!" Yaz said.
"Okay, the "Crash does work" portion of the day is over." Crash said.
"Wow, you got a whole ten minutes in. Bravo." Yaz said.
"Yeah, we're done now." Crash said.
"Get off my back, literally and figuratively." Crash said.
"You can crawl the rest of the way." he said.
"Are you kidding? We're nowhere near camp." Yaz said.
"Maybe someone should have thought of that before she hopped off into the jungle." Crash said.
He tried shaking her off of him.
"Well if someone would've pulled his weight, she wouldn't have had to." Yaz said.
"And now I'm pulled both our weights." Crash said.
"When are you gonna get it? You can't do anything here, Yaz." Crash said.
This was the last straw Yaz had with Crash. She got off his back and hopped away.
Yaz groaned "Okay, I'm sorry, Yaz." Crash apologized.
She didn't listen "Come on, Yaz, Would you stop?" Crash asked.
"I said I'm sorry." he said.
She fell again Crash ran over to her. He tried helping her up but she didn't want it.
She began crying "What is it?" Crash asked.
"I'm the track star. The person my coaches, my team, everybody relies on. But now... But now I'm not. And if I'm not strong anymore...What good am I?" Yaz explained to Crash.
Crash took a deep breath "What good are anyone on their own?" Crash asked.
"I mean, I know I don't know most dinosaurs but I am..." he was cut off by Yaz.
"Lazy? Rude? Basically hopeless?" Yaz asked.
"Good points but I was going to say something else but I'll just say I'm the glue keeping us together." Crash said.
Yaz chuckles.
"I think the best think isn't push yourself so hard, you collapse. Just let someone else do the work for a change, Yaz." Crash said.
"Like who?" she asked.
He sighed "Like me." he said.
He carried her back and placed her down "Here ya go." he said.
"I'll clear some of the stuff." Crash said.
Yaz smiles, as she accepts her limits.
Sammy, Noah, and Sammy were now being chased by a Baryonyx. Maria the Sinoceratops was standing her ground. The Baryonyx chasing Noah and Sammy followed them to the other cage. The one that has the caged Baryonyx. The two seemed to know each other. Summer appeared from behind crates "Guys, over here." Summer said.
The Baryonyx tried breaking the cage holding the green Baryonyx but no luck "What's going on?" Summer asked.
"It's trying to free the other Baryonyx." Noah said.
The three leaves but the Baryonyx that is light colored saw them.
It gave chase and Sammy hid behind some boxes "Quick, up here!" Summer pointed at a cage.
The two climbed up the cage the Baryonyx tripped, which caused Summer to lose her balance as she was climbing. The Baryonyx tried attacking but Summer used a stick and hit it in the face.
The Baryonyx saw Stegosaurus and roared at it.
Noah had a plan.
"Sammy!" Noah called out.
Sammy saw him "The Stegosaurues. Open the cage!" Noah said.
Sammy ran to the cage and freed them and the Stegosauruses started to surround the Baryonyx.
The Baryonyx trying to free its brethren was forced to help its pal.
"Come on!" Sammy said.
Noah saw the Baryonyx kept roaring out for help.
"We can't leave her. They're a family." Noah said.
Noah ran over to the cage "What are you doing?" Summer asked.
Noah opened the cage, freeing the green Baryonyx. She rejoin her pack "Aw!" Sammy said.
The Baryonyx roared at the Stegosauruses, now they were running at the campers.
Crash was building a fire. Yaz was resting "Welcome to Camp Crash!" Crash said.
Soon the ground shook and the two saw the others "Up the trees, quick!" Summer said.
Everyone ran up the trees. And soon within seconds the two Stegosauruses and Maria crushed Crash's work "No, no, no!" Crash said.
"This is exactly why you never work on anything, ever." Crash said.
Yaz gave Crash a pat on the shoulder.
"I guess this is why they built Camp C up in the trees." Sammy said.
"Hey, maybe our new shelter should be kind of like a tree house?" Noah asked.
"Maybe something like..." Yaz said.
She began drawing on a piece of paper "This?" she asked, as she was finished.
"It's great! But we definitely need a lookout tower." Noah said.
And an awesome girls' bunk! The boys can have whatever." Summer said.
"I hate you." Crash said.
"A place for storing food, so the dinos don't get it." Sammy said.
Yaz was drawing more things for the hideout while having her foot on a rock.
Crash and Summer was carrying a piece of wood. Noah had a bag and was walking. Sammy was clearing some of the wreckage and found something.
Noah placed down his new notebook and two mugs "Hey, Noah?" Sammy asked.
"I found this." Sammy said.
She had a necklace and handed it to Noah "It's my dad's necklace!" Noah said.
Noah and Sammy hugged.
"We need some more vines." Yasmina said.
"On it!" Summer said.
Summer left the group to find veins but she heard more of that werid whirring sound. She armed herself and left to check out the noise. She found a patch of flowers she touched one and it turned to icely dust "They're frozen?" she wondered.
Summer had more questions about this park than before.
In the trees a shadow figure was watching her, smiling.
