Hailey was still pretty confused. The events of the hours before she woke up in the hospital were still quite vague and still blurry.
At the same time, the detective knew she had to give everyone an explanation and so she asked everyone to sit around her bed. She was ready to give them all the information that was in her possession and to clarify any doubts if possible.
Everyone, including her, was also aware that doing something like this with a head injury, even a mild one, wouldn't be easy..
She was ready to start talking when Natalie and Maggie, who were standing in the door of the detective's room, they entered and sat in silence, eager to obtain useful information to understand where Will had ended up and also where Jay had gone to.
Realizing the arrival of the doctor and the nurse, she decided to start telling from the beginning, from the end of the party.
He started by talking about what had happened at the exit of the club, what he had mostly told all of them about intelligence Jay, Hermann and Otis.
- So Will was waiting outside the club, but when Jay came out there was no sign of him, but only bloodstains on the ground scattered in the snow. - Detective Upton said.
Natalie was getting more and more shocked.
- Bloodstains? Where is Will? - the doctor exclaimed in terror.
- We don't know this. We think someone has kidnapped him and for sure he's hurt. We analyzed the bloodstains and unfortunately they are from Will.- Voight explained going to the detective's aid.
- We tracked down Will's phone but, unfortunately, it turned out to have been thrown into a dumpster and then each of us headed to our cars to return to the district. Jay and I were the last to remain on the discovery scene. We had almost arrived at the car when ... - the detective was continuing to tell and had arrived at the highlight when, however, she stopped. It was evident that she was tired. She was finding it harder and harder to speak.
It had become extremely difficult to continue with the story, but despite the fatigue and the increasingly excruciating pain in the head Hailey knew she had to continue. She had now almost reached the end of her story of the events she had lived through
.
Slowly and very calmly then he continued:
- Someone, he must have followed us and hit me from behind. From that moment on, I don't remember anything. When I recovered I was alone until you guys showed up and Jay was gone.
After a few moments of silence Hailey, not seeing her colleague, Detective Halstead, in the room, worriedly asked where he was.
But no one could give her an answer, no one knew, says it was finished.
- Hailey when was the last time you saw Jay? -Voight asked her.
- Sergeant when we were about to take the car we were together. Until they hit me in the back he was with me. But why what happened to him? Please tell me. -Hailey asked desperately.
- Well that's the problem. We don't even know where it is. - Antonio answered. - we heard about you from Adam and Kevin who came looking for you because you were too late and this was not normal.
After that information was revealed in the room, he fell silent. Nobody said anything more.
Hailey closed her eyes and some tears silently began to flow from them. At the same time, Natalie was crying too, and everyone stood there sad, grieved.
Like the pieces of a puzzle that slowly fit together one at a time, with each other, although there were still many missing, all the knots were finally coming to a head.
The situation finally turned out to be clearer for Natalie too. She finally had an explanation for everything more or less: for Will's disappearance, for the numerous calls from Jay she had received on her phone during the night, and for the ones she had made to Jay without getting any response.
Natalie was starting to blame herself for not leaving the ringer that night and not hearing her phone vibrate despite having it on her bedside table and therefore close to her.
- Hailey we need to know everything you remember. Even a detail that seems insignificant could be important. - Antonio said
- Unfortunately, that's all I remember. Someone attacked us as we walked. They must have followed us, I think maybe there were two of them because they attacked us at the same time. Something hit me in the back of the head and then I must have lost consciousness when I fell to the ground. Dr. Choi told me I hit my head against the sidewalk at cheekbone. - reiterated this Hailey froze. With a little flash she reminded her of a detail she had forgotten.
- Hailey? Hailey are you there? - Adam called her seeing her there in front of him spellbound.
- I ... I ... yes, I am reminded of something ... after I fell to the ground I didn't pass out immediately. In those few moments I noticed that someone was putting a napkin in front of Jay's mouth. They blocked him from behind. I wanted to help him, scream, but I didn't have the strength. - said the detective.
In the end, the detective was a little helpful, she remembered something even if it wasn't very good. She also said she noticed a tattoo on the hand of the one he had held a handkerchief over Jay's mouth. It was represented as a scorpion, but she otherwise remembered nothing but waking up there in the hospital.
Sergeant, colleagues, Nurse Lockhart and Dr. Manning listened carefully to the whole story.
The Intelligence members gathered the information from their colleague and decided to leave. They said goodbye to the young woman who told her to rest and headed for the district. They had to investigate and find more clues to save the two brothers trying to find some information that would allow them to understand who the kidnapper was and if he had them both with him.
Natalie had finally calmed down. After listening to Hailey she had cleared up her doubts about Will's disappearance. The concern was great. She was agitated for her boyfriend, but also for Jay after she found out he had been kidnapped too.
In the meantime, the detective, who had resisted to tell the story of what had happened, left alone in the room, had fallen asleep again.
Before leaving the hospital, Sergeant Voight left two officers guarding the entrance to Hailey's room, allowing only doctors to enter. This just to be more peaceful.
It was by now established that the kidnappers had it exclusively with the Halstead brothers, but for safety and in order not to risk he decided to also protect Hailey that she could be attacked if the criminals had assumed that the young woman had recognized them .
Natalie, on her way back to the ER, tried, with Meggie's help, to stay focused on her work. She would have gone mad not to do anything and so she had said she was available for whatever was needed. Keeping busy saving patients' lives would help her not think the worst of her, but she had decided to keep the phone with her so that she could be immediately tracked in case there was any news.
