MariaShades asks for Day 21: Famous Last Words – Coughing Up Blood with John and/or Kayo

'The next time one of us says "it looks like an easy rescue", I will shoot them myself.'

Kayo chuckled wetly. She ignored the tears falling as she pushed harder.

'How are you going to do that, John?'

'I'll steal Scott's grapple gun.'

He coughed, twisting his head to spit out a mouthful of blood, and grimaced. He didn't have the strength to spit it out well and he could feel the blood trickle down the side of his mouth. This was not good.

'Stay still, John. You know the drill.'

He placed a shaky hand over the two Kayo had pressing on the wound in his chest and looked at his sister. Kayo smiled at him.

'Love you, Tanusha. Tell my brothers I love them too.'

'Don't you dare, John Glenn Tracy!'

'M'Sorry.'

'NO! No, you don't! Fight, John. Fight it like the Tracy you are!'

'Tired.'

'I don't care. Never give up! That's our motto. Don't you give up now because I'm never giving up on you!

'Kay…'

'NO! No, John. Just…no. Scott's coming.'

'Kay…'

'He's coming! And Virgil will be right behind him…'

'Kay…I can hear…'

And John's hand fell limp.

With a scream Kayo fished in the small medpack for something – anything – that she could use to seal John's wound while she kept the pressure on. Her questing hand found a large sticking pad and she slapped it on.

Taking position, Kayo began chest compressions. So intent on her job that she hadn't heard One landing, hadn't heard Scott's frantic run over nor him calling her name. 30 compressions. She moved to do the two rescue breaths and almost jumped out of her skin when Scott appeared on John's other side. He carried the AED unit with him and tore the pad coverings apart while she went back to compressions.

30 compressions while Scott got the machine ready.

2 rescue breaths while Scott tore away the remains of John's uniform and placed the pads.'

'Analysing, do not touch the patient. Analysing, do not touch the patient.'

They sat back, waiting for the machine to work its magic.

'Shock advised, press the flashing orange button now.'

'Clear,' Kayo called as Scott waited to press the button.

'Shocking,' Scott replied and pressed the button.

John's body twitched.

Nothing.

'It is safe to touch the patient. Begin CPR. For help with CPR, press the flashing blue button.'

Scott got busy with the compressions as Kayo readied herself for the rescue breaths. They continued as the device gave them 15 second alerts to the next analysis.

'Stop CPR. Analysing, do not touch the patient. Analysing, do not touch the patient.'

'Shock advised, press the flashing orange button now.'

'Clear,' Kayo called as Scott waited to press the button.

'Shocking,' Scott replied and pressed the button.

John's body twitched and he gasped.

Foggy aqua eyes looked into blue eyes.

'Sc'ot?'

'You with us, Spaceman?'

'A'ways.'

The welcome sounds of Two washed over them as John closed his eyes.

Scott leaned over him and squeezed Kayo's shoulder, waiting for her to make eye contact. She was a little slow to stop looking at John's chest rising and falling, but eventually Kayo met his eyes. Scott smiled.

'Well done, and thank you.'
