Author's Notes: Going back to the slightly familiar as I mostly redo the episode by adding Sean where he fits as well as making changes that make sense. This is gonna be combining both parts of Voices Carry so I'm not just writing two bite-sized installments. I want you guys to have fun as much as I am. The last episode was is some setup for this episode and what's to come in the future of this alternate universe. If you've figured it out, awesome. If you haven't figured it out, you have plenty of time to figure it out.
Disclaimer: I don't own any of these characters or the world itself, I'm just having fun with everything and making a world that's just as good as the original.
That out of the way, here's Voices Carry Part 1 and 2
Voices Carry Part 1
J.T. handed Liberty the scripts for Dracula with Sean joining Manny in walking beside them down the hall. "Got the scripts."
"Wow. That's a lot of paper." Liberty said, some hesitation in her voice. She looks at Manny. "And muffins? Drama club goes all out." She lets out a groan. "I won't want to do this anymore."
"Liberty, you wrote the play." Manny said as her three friends stopped her. "You adapted 'Dracula'."
"And not the movie either, from a book." J.T. points out. "It's great."
"And you did a great job at it." Sean points out. "Actually made the book more interesting."
"Is someone sucking up so they can play Dracula?" Manny teased.
Sean scoffs. "No, I am happy being the understudy."
"But it's not 'great', it's embarrassing," Liberty said mostly bringing down the mood. "Pedestrian. Reputation-killer."
"No, that would be the case if we had made Sean Dracula." J.T. teased which made Sean lightly punch him in the arm. "Ow."
"Okay, this is so not you." Manny reminds her. "You are irritating…"
"Stubborn," Sean spoke up.
"Self-confident to the point of social retardation," J.T. replied.
"Gee, J.T. Thanks," Liberty said sarcastically.
"But you're talented, okay?" J.T. compliments her. "Brilliant. So, just have a muffin and chill."
Manny raised the box of muffins and Sean places the muffins on top of the scripts for emphasis.
"Your director says so," J.T. said, as serious as he could be whilst walking off and Sean following him.
"J.T. said I'm brilliant," Liberty said, sounding mildly surprised. Both girls were impressed by this as they continue walking down the hall.
At a rehearsal for the play, Manny was reading from the script as some of the cast sat looking a bit bored. " Promise, that if the time comes, you will kill me."
"I will, I promise," Alex said, also rehearsing with her.
"Mina, the sun's almost set," Nate, a male cast member read.
"Dracula's blood has not nearly poisoned mine," Manny said, remembering the lines. "But it will. In killing me, Doctor Van Helsing saves my life. But Jonathan, it is you who saves my soul."
Sean looks at the script as well. He was an understudy but that didn't mean he wasn't going to try. He watches as Liberty was silently reading back the lines.
The bell rings as Ms. Kwan stands up and politely claps. "Okay, we're all meeting Saturday morning. We'll finish the rest then," she said as she excused the group.
"Wonder if that includes understudies," Sean said quietly to Alex who grins at the remark.
Mr. Raditch calls to Ms. Kwan as Emma approaches Liberty. "That was good, Liberty. That was great."
Liberty smiles at the compliment.
"Yeah, a little gross too," Alex said in a joking tone.
Manny gave an encouraging two thumbs up as Sean smiled and nodded in approval as the class leaves.
[I won't be including the whole Mr. Raditch being a hypocritical prude because he's trying to double down and make a "happy" environment. That and Sean already left so this doesn't need to be addressed.]
Manny and Sean arrive at the Dot, he was there for moral support. Ellie had mostly been okay with him hanging out with Manny ever since the rehearsal of the lines. They see J.T. and Liberty at a table as Manny sat where she sits normally and Sean sits on the other side. Between J.T. and Liberty.
"Why did you tag along?: J.T. asked Sean.
"For backup. Manny thinks you two are up to something." Sean said.
"So, how long have you two been working together?" Manny asked.
"'Dracula' is dead," Liberty announced in a faux cheerful tone. "But 'Degrassi: the Musical' is born."
"Ummm, what?" Sean exclaimed in bewilderment.
"Say you're kidding," Manny said, echoing the same surprise as Sean's. "Please. Anytime."
J.T. and Liberty both try to fake the enthusiasm and they both realize they weren't joking.
"I don't think they're joking." sean said to Manny, half quietly to mimic a whisper.
"We thought we'd need to set the thing around a character; somebody who's been around the school since it opened. A teacher. A janitor."
J.T. finished some of the idea. "A cafeteria worker named… "
"Shelley!" The two announced pointing at Manny.
The statement makes Sean want to bust out laughing but he calms down as he sees Manny's distress. She wasn't happy about this.
"And while she works, she sings," J.T. told her.
"Oh these hallowed halls of stone" Liberty began singing badly.
"Make me want to dial home. "J.T. continues.
"Look way up into the sky"
"Degrassi's name write real high."
Sean couldn't hold back his laughter anymore and completely lost it. The three look at him then he clears his throat. "I'll wait outside. We can walk you home when you're done," he said to Manny as he still laughs at the situation but not as loudly.
Manny looks at J.T. and Liberty and shakes her head in refusal. "Say you're kidding. Please. Anytime."
J.T. gives up and replied. "She's right. They're both right. This is stupid. I quit." He then gets up and walks out of the Dot.
Manny looks at Liberty. "Go after him. Invite him back to your place. Brainstorm ideas in the hot tub - something that doesn't involve me wearing a hair net or forcing Sean to do a dance number." She gets up from her seat and goes to the exit but not before turning to her friend. "Do it now. Please, Liberty."
With that, Manny walks off so Sean could walk her home.
Voices Carry Part 2
Sean walks in with Manny, Alex, Emma, and the rest of the drama club for the meeting as Nate tries to recite his lines for Dracula. Sean silently whispers to Alex "I know I'm not an actor but this guy makes me look good."
Alex laughs openly which Nate heard but she didn't care if he did. Alex being Alex. "You got Raditch to change his mind about the play?"
"Not yet," J.T. said as he hands out copies of the Radish Song to those present. "Dracula is staked for now."
"You couldn't tell me this yesterday?" Nate replied sounding annoyed. "I'm wasting my Saturday rehearsing what exactly?"
"The Radish Song," Emma spoke up as the others read the paper.
"Yes, 'The Radish Song'." J.T. replied, "Sung to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star."
Nate starts to sing the song in the tune as Manny continues.
"Gets even more wicked in an 'evil' sense," Manny spoke up. "But there's no way I'm doing this."
"But it's a song of rebellion," Liberty said as Manny handed back the sheet. "Our not-so-silent protest against tyranny and oppression."
"I'm all about rebellion," Alex spoke up and then joins Manny in handing back the sheet. "Not so much into getting expelled over a play."
"I'm with Alex," Sean spoke up and started to leave. "I'm trying my best to stay out of trouble these days."
"Sorry, guys. 'A' for effort though." Emma said as the rest of the group starts to high tail it out of there.
"You can't- you can't just leave!" J.T. shouted. "United we stand! Divided we suck."
Manny starts to slick off as well, feeling bad about it. "If I leave now, I can catch my dad."
With that, the group left the auditorium. Leaving J.T. and Liberty to face Raditch alone.
Joey was walking out of the elevator to the hotel Craig was staying in. However, he wasn't alone. Sean had walked out with him. "Thanks for coming, Sean. I don't know who else can handle Craig beside you."
"Well, my Saturday opened up. Besides, it's Craig. How much damage did he… do?" Sean stops talking to see the cleanup of the room continue.
Joey rushes over and sees what Craig did as hotel management spoke to Joey. Sean took a peek at the damage and is shocked by what his friend had done.
This scared him.
Joey and Sean walk into the remains of the wedding reception. Ashley was still in tears as Kate consoles her.
"Ashley, Mr. Jeremiah would like to talk to you." Ashley's dad said as Sean kept his distance.
This was a serious adult matter.
"Where's Craig?" Joey asked frantically.
"I don't know. He's not here anymore." Ashley told him.
"But you know where he is though, right?" Joey asked as Sean stepped closer. "Look, I know about the hotel room."
"Hotel room?" Kate asked in shock and offense.
Sean looks at Ashley, he obviously knew what had happened between her and Craig. He said nothing but bit his lip in secondhand embarrassment.
Ashley blushes, embarrassed at her mom finding out she had sex. "Great."
"What I don't understand is why did you trash it," Joey asked in frustration. "$4,000 dollars worth of damages."
Ashley is shocked and offended by the accusation. "I didn't- Craig, he must've done it last night… after he proposed."
"He proposed?" Sean interjected out of befuddlement.
"Proposed." Joey was shell-shocked by the revelation.
"Craig has problems." Kate cut in. "He's got a lot of problems."
No. No, Mom. He's not like this!" Ashley insisted. "Not ever. Joey, tell her."
Sean was having flashbacks and memories about what Craig told him about Albert Manning. He was completely terrified as he looks at Joey who was at a loss.
"What do I do?" Joey asked himself out loud. "What is happening to my son?"
With that, Joey left with Sean following him. Sean looks back at Ashley and apologized without saying a word and then he goes after Joey.
As Craig tried to leave the Jeremiah residence, Joey walks in with Sean in tow. Joey did NOT look very happy.
"Place looks great," Craig said to try to change the subject. His eyes were shifty and scared. "I barely recognized it."
"Craig, not now, dude." Sean insisted, he knew how angry Joey was.
"Sit down." Joey softly but firmly ordered Craig.
"Caitlin's got your card," Craig said as he goes to leave but is stopped by Joey and Sean.
"You're not going anywhere." Joey firmly stated. "There's something not right with you."
"I'm fine," Craig repeated in a manic tone.
"Dude, you're not fine. You need help." Sean said softly.
"Stay out of this!" Craig said loudly as he tried to get past Sean who wouldn't move an inch.
"Sit down!" Joey yelled as he pushed Craig back from Sean and the exit.
"Don't…" Craig shoves Joey hard into a bookshelf. "Do that!"
Joey looked into his adopted son's eyes and didn't recognize him. He saw the eyes of a man he hadn't seen in years. Albert Manning.
Craig tries to leave but Sean refused to move and Craig tries to intimidate his friend. Joey grabs Craig's shoulders as Sean joins in to try to calm Craig down and de-escalate the situation.
"We're trying to help you here!" Joey yelled as the two struggled with Craig.
Craig glares at Joey and shoves him to the floor. Sean tries to get Craig off Joey only for Craig to sucker punch Sean with a hard right hook and made Sean fall to the floor. Craig starts to pummel Joey in a manic state as Caitlin and Angela tearfully told Craig to stop.
Sean rubs his bleeding lip and gets up off the floor to put Craig in a half-Nelson. He was doing his best to get Craig to stop. "Dude, stop! That's enough!"
At that moment, Ashley walks into the house and saw what was happening. "Craig! Craig!"
Sean looks up and lets go of the hold on Craig and he falls to the ground in exhaustion. He knew Ashley could get him to stop. He goes to check on Joey as Craig goes over to Ashley.
Craig snaps out of it when he sees Ashley. "You came back." He hugs and kisses her, a fool for love.
Caitlin and Angela go over to Joey as Sean tries to help Joey. He was banged up but looked like he would be okay.
"Yeah, I did," Ashley said, fear quivering in her voice.
"After everything that happened. After all that I did, you came back." Craig said, his attention laser-focused on Ashley."
"Craig,... Craig, you need help." Ashley said, hoping to snap him out of it.
It works as Craig looks back at what he had done to Sean. What he did to Joey. He falls to his knees and tries to come to terms with his actions.
Ashley bends down and goes to console him. "We're gonna get you help."
Craig looks around, he knew he did need help.
Craig was sitting on a hospital bed, talking to Ashley and Sean. Ashley was sitting on the bed while Sean leaned against a wall. Sean was nursing a bruised lip as he and Ashley listened to Craig. "I still can't sleep. I've got seventeen new songs, more in a week than I've written my whole life."
"But you're okay?" Sean asked his friend.
"I'm crazy," Craig said bluntly to them.
"You're not crazy." Ashley insisted.
"Well, then explain the medication…" He holds up his arm to show his hospital bracelet. "And this trendy bracelet on my wrist. And explain despite everything they tell me… I feel fine."
"You're bipolar," Ashley replied. "You've got a chemical imbalance in your brain but you're getting help."
"You remember that day you were playing chicken with that train? And I asked what was wrong with you?" Sean said to get Craig's attention. "Guess now I know."
Craig looks back at him and smiles. "This is you getting back at me for sucker punching you, isn't it?"
"Nope," Sean said as he gets off the wall and starts to leave. "But good luck trying that again." The joke makes Craig chuckle as Sean looks at the pair. "I better go call Ellie, and tell her how everything is going."
He leaves the room to do that but mostly to give the couple a moment alone.
[And everything plays out the way it does at the end of part 2 with Craig and Ashley together]
