A/N: Reminder about the blanket graphic depiction of violence on this chapter due to the attack on Miyuki. This is the only ch I see this warning for, that happens for now.
Time seemed to slow for Miyuki as the blade came down. Then the wind was rushing past her ears and she felt the weapon being pulled out of her forehead. She screamed at the pain, figuring there would be bone showing. And blood? Was she bleeding? "Oh fuck, oh fuck…" Miyuki breathed rapidly, going into shock and a panic attack.
She also couldn't see out of her left eye. How badly damaged was it? Could the doctors fix it? She was shaking real bad right now. Wait, what was this stuff? This clear stuff? Fluid from her eye? Oh gross.
Her head was feeling fuzzy, why was that? Miyuki shook her head, trying to see through the blood. All that that accomplished was making her stagger, off balance. Why was she off balance? Vaguely, she heard Musyamon address her, but it seemed like he was far away.
"Tell me what you know. Why are there more of you? How are there more of you? You don't seem to have Crests, so how does your partnership with your Digimon work?"
Miyuki couldn't grasp everything he was saying. The pain was horrendous, like she had been hit by a truck and stabbed. "I don't know, I don't know." She was sobbing, her voice hoarse. "I don't know who they are." Miyuki was barely coherent enough to make sentences.
The pain was so bad, why won't it stop? She found herself on the footpath, her hands touching concrete. How did she end up on the ground? When had she fallen? Everything was so fuzzy right now, she just wanted it to stop.
Miyuki was only just aware her breathing had gotten worse. Was she about to pass out? The environment around her seemed very light. What was going on?
"Okay, that's far enough!"
The next few minutes were such a blur, Miyuki spent them bouncing in and out of consciousness as her arms started trembling from holding her up on all fours. Every time she was aware enough, she didn't quite have a good enough grasp on reality and faded out again.
"-where did he even come from?" One of them said during a conscious moment. Sounded like Tailmon X. "I couldn't sense any other Digimon at all. And the way he targeted Miyuki when he saw her! What was that all about?"
"I don't understand why we were chosen." Another voice said, probably Hikaru. "Why us? What happened to the Chosen anyway? Why aren't they here stopping Vamdemon instead of us?"
"Yeah, I do find it odd that they aren't here… Maybe something happened and they got stuck in the Digital World? I don't know." This was Dracomon.
Before Miyuki could hear anymore, her arms gave out and she collapsed, passing out completely. The conversation continued without her, but the participants eventually fell silent when Dracomon glanced over and saw his partner's collapsed form.
He breathed in and let out a wordless, strangled scream of rage. The next second, he was Coredramon.
Coredramon was furious. His partner had been badly hurt and was on the ground, passed out. The Digimon responsible for her injuries was still alive, but wouldn't be for long. No, he was going to take care of that right now.
"How dare you, you insolent fool!" Blue flames poured from his mouth. Coredramon was beyond pissed as he charged at Musyamon, wrestling the sword off of him and snapping it in half. It disintegrated into particles. "She's an innocent girl! And you wounded her to the point of unconsciousness! You will pay!"
Musyamon scoffed. "Come and try me, do-gooder."
Without his sword, Coredramon figured Musyamon would be easy to finish off. His rage was also fuelling his strength, so he decided to test the theory. Coredramon rushed the swordsman again, going toe-to-toe with him in hand combat. They fought for a good while, but Coredramon was slowly gaining ground.
Coredramon was finding that Musyamon was weakening and continued to press home his advantage. He wanted to finish the battle as soon as he possibly could and get back to Miyuki's side.
The battle wore on and Coredramon sensed his foe's strength waning even more, so he decided to deliver a finishing strike right at the Digi Core. His first blow caught Musyamon off guard and winded him. The next strike struck true to the middle of his chest and the swordsman's Digi Core shattered.
Musyamon simply ceased to exist. He didn't disappear as data because there was nothing left.
Coredramon stopped fighting for a few moments and waited to get his breath back. The Adult level exhaled deeply and glanced over to where DarkTyrannomon was as still as a brick wall. The Virus-attribute was staring intensely at him, which he found really unsettling.
"Do you mind not doing that?"
The dark coloured dinosaur didn't respond to Coredramon's request and he had to wonder if it was capable of talking. He was about to gesture with hand signals when it finally spoke.
"I apologize for my part in this scheme that Lord Vamdemon thought of. I truly wanted to be no part of it. I know many of you Chosen Digimon view Virus-attributes all the same, but I was a peaceful farmer before I was forcefully recruited into his army."
Coredramon stared in shock that not only was DarkTyrannomon capable of speech, but they had had another life before Vamdemon.
However, keeping his guard up, Coredramon narrowed his eyes. "How do I know you're telling the truth? What do I address you as?" He was going to be suspicious until the foe proved their innocence.
"I'm a male." DarkTyrannomon replied, before moving a clawed hand to his chest. There were faded scars there from his work under Vamdemon, but there was also a buried softness to his eyes that he'd obviously worked hard to keep hidden from Vamdemon. "If you're going to kill me, please do it swiftly."
Wait, what? Coredramon's brain hurried to catch up. "You still want death?"
DarkTyrannomon nodded once. "I'd prefer it, if you wouldn't mind. It'd mean I won't have to commit any more injustices against the Chosen."
Coredramon thought about this for a moment. It seemed like the foe was set in his decision, so who was he to say no? "Very well. I will do what you ask."
With that, he rushed forward and began fighting DarkTyrannomon, his enemy giving no quarter in the battle. The duelling pair gave it everything they had, blocking, parrying and striking.
Only one would be leaving the battle alive and that victor had already been decided fairly.
As they fought, Coredramon kept getting glances of Hikaru standing frozen footsteps away from where Miyuki had fallen. The sight of the boy doing nothing to help his friend only made Coredramon's irritation grow, before he eventually snapped at the boy while wrestling with DarkTyrannomon.
"Kaneko Hikaru! Don't just stand there! Do something to help Miyuki! I didn't think you were that useless! Call your specialist people, whoever they are!"
The dragon took a moment to smirk to himself after his comment got a reaction from the boy as Hikaru fumbled with his mobile phone.
"Hello? My friend's been attacked." These were the last words Coredramon focused on before he returned his full focus to his fight with DarkTyrannomon. But it was in that moment, while he had been distracted, that DarkTyrannomon struck him solidly in the face with a hard punch to the jaw.
The blue dragon staggered back a bit, caught off guard by the move. Coredramon then got a roguish grin on his face. If that was how DarkTyrannomon wanted to fight, he would oblige him by doing the same.
It would be a fist fight until the end. He'd finish him off with Blue Flare Breath.
With DarkTyrannomon at his weakest since the whole fight had started, Coredramon decided to use his signature technique instead to finish the battle decisively.
"Blue Flare Breath!" Coredramon inhaled and then exhaled, breathing searing sapphiric flames. The fire would burn away his foe's skin and everything underneath.
Coredramon didn't delight in killing his enemy, seeing as how he was a peace loving Digimon, but it had to be done. If he let him go back to Vamdemon, it would potentially ruin things that were happening here with the children.
And he didn't want that to happen. So he killed the soldier.
It seemed too much of a coincidence that the ambulance arrived with the paramedics after Coredramon had reconfigured DarkTyrannomon by using Blue Flare Breath to strip everything away.
But they were here now and that was a good thing. Dracomon and Plotmon X had hidden in a bush while Hikaru really skimmed over the details, Dracomon noticed with a stifled chuckle.
"Yeah, it was some crazy guy with a kitchen knife." He watched Hikaru explain with a straight face. The boy nudged the bush with a foot, silently warning the small dragon to be quiet.
Dracomon stopped laughing straight away, recognizing the warning.
The ambulance officers had managed to stabilize Miyuki for now and lifted the stretcher into the back of the ambulance. Miyuki had been given a strong dose of painkillers and was very out of it due to the pain. She had heard the paramedics talk amongst themselves about "some crazy criminal" and "depth perception issues", but those words had slipped away from her in the haze of pain.
She was very lonely, scared and had a very bad migraine. The pain was so bad Miyuki didn't even realize her head was wrapped in bandages. What she did know was that she hated Digimon now.
