A/N- I've now picked which of my stories to post as the last 5. I can't believe this full 100 stories took me 5 years, through a whole degree! I have loved writing this pairing, and one day I may come back to it again, but for now, I hope everyone who is blessed enough to discover the love and heartbreak that is Caroline and Kate can enjoy these stories. Thank you to everyone who read and commented on my work, thank you to all the other writers who helped me through a dark period of my life without knowing when I read their fic and, despite the pain, thank you to Sally Wainwright for bringing us these two characters. Most of my thanks, of course, goes to Nina Sosanya, Sarah Lancashire, and my overactive imagination.
Caroline was having an ok day for a Saturday. She had managed to get everything done for the weekend that she needed to, and now was sat in her front room with a large glass of wine and a pleasant day dream involving Kate McKenzie naked in the dappled afternoon sun.
"Mum, you'll have to move."
"What? Why?" Caroline looked up at her son with dismay.
"I booked the room, remember? Lawrence wanted a games afternoon with his friends, and we argued about it, then you said it's a home and not a commercial space so why were we talking about booking anything at all, and then-"
"Yes, yes, I vaguely remember that particular argument. But why do I have to leave? You said you had a friend coming over to play French scrabble, and I'm not being loud." She pointed out.
"But you'll be distracting."
"I won't! I won't say a word."
"You won't have to say anything to be distracting."
"Oh, is it that little angry boy from school? What's his name? It's something ridiculous."
"Morris, which is not ridiculous."
"It is for a 17 year old, darling."
"Well, it's not him anyway. It's Kate."
"Kate who?" Caroline frowned, trying to think of a Kate in his year level.
"Kate Kate!"
Caroline stared at her son blankly for a moment and then had a sudden change of expression. "Oh! Yes. You told me. You both told me. Sorry, william. It's been a long week."
William huffed as he set up the scrabble board. "So, can you please leave the room?"
"She's not even here yet."
"But she will be any minute, and if she sees you she will be distracted, and I need her help preparing for the tournament next week!"
So that is how Caroline found herself at the side of the house waiting for her girlfriend to walk up so she would be able to say hello without her sons knowledge.
Kate jumped when Caroline appeared the instant she stepped through the gate and grabbed her hand, pulling her down the side of the house. "What are you doing?"
"William has forbidden me from seeing or talking to you." Caroline offered as she rested Kates back against the side of the house, eyes already on her lips.
"Why?" Kate laughed.
"He said I'll distract you, you won't be so helpful, and he will lose the tournament and the respect of all his friends. Including little angry Morris." Caroline replied before finally giving in and kissing the lips she had been fantasising about all morning.
"That's ridiculous. You're not distracting in the slightest." Kate responded in between kisses.
"That's what I said, but he's not convinced." Caroline reached up her girlfriend's shirt. "I was having a lovely daydream about you earlier.."
"Oh?"
"Mm. You were on the deck chair out the back. The sun was shining and you were gloriously naked."
"Gloriously?" Kate asked breathlessly as she felt a button from her shirt pop open.
"Perfection. Your body is utterly and completely perfect and I need you."
"God. Caroline."
"See. I'm not distracting." Caroline replied before her lips descended.
"Sorry I'm a little late. Traffic." Kate offered when William opened the front door.
"That's ok. I've had time to set everything up." William stepped aside. "I really appreciate this, Kate."
"I'm honoured you think I'll be able to help you improve your game." Kate replied honestly, glancing around to try and catch sight of herself in a reflection so she would know if she had buttoned her top up properly. It was difficult to do buttons up when there was a blonde woman resting against the wall and watching you with a predatory stare.
"Mum's gone to the shops. She's going to make something new for dinner, so she will probably be gone for hours picking out just the right ingredients."
Lips still tingling from Caroline's fervent kisses, Kate laughed and led the way into the front room. "Sounds like your mum."
"Is it safe for me to come into my own house?" Caroline called a couple of hours later when she'd opened the front door.
"Mum, he's finished and he won't let me play my Xbox!" Lawrence complained.
"I'm reading, and you won't put it on mute!" William argued.
"But the front room is the only place i can play, and he can read anywhere." Lawrence pointed out triumphantly, finally walking from the room only to find no mum, just bags of groceries sitting in front of the door.
"Hi."
"Hi." Caroline smiled, eyes dropping to Kates lips. "Did you make it through unscathed?"
"Mostly. What are you making for dinner?"
Caroline shut her eyes and drew a shaking breath as those lips descended to caress her collarbone. "Can't remember."
"I thought you were the distracting one."
"Perhaps it's mutual."
"Mm, must be."
"Kate won, but only by two points."
"Did she?" Caroline asked lightly, briefly holding eye contact with the woman herself.
"But when you consider how it started, Will, that is a huge improvement. And I've only played Morris once, but he's definitely not as good as you." Kate replied, her bare foot up Caroline's pant leg.
"Mum calls him angry little Morris, because when we were 10 he came over for a party and broke her favourite vase."
"It was hideous." Lawrence offered.
"It was an heirloom." Caroline replied. "Has everyone finished?"
"It was beautiful, Caroline. Delicious. The second best thing I've ever eaten!" Kate told Caroline, eyes on her lips.
"Blimey. I thought it was nice, but that's extreme." William laughed. "Florence, come on, I'll play you."
Once the boys were gone, Caroline lifted her eyes to Kates. "Second best?"
"Second best." Kate nodded, eyes travelling lazily over Caroline's body.
"..you're very distracting."
"Caroline, tu es délicieuse."
