Chapter 15. Slytherin five, tryouts and darkness.

"Amy Frome, you mean the perfect?" Said pansy in shock.

Jakob tried to not make a big deal out of this.

"Yes, but it.-"

"The same Amy Frome that hexed you the first time you met? Bloody hell, Jakob, she is 15, and you are 12!"

"I know, Pansy, but-"

"Is she doing this without your consent? I will murder her if she-"

Jakob put a hand on her mouth.

"Pansy, stop. She has my consent, and yes, she hexed me, but we have grown to like each other, and you can't tell anyone because if people knew that she and I were… intimate," Pansy's eyes rose when he said that word, but he continued.

"plans that we have done won't work out."

Jake then released his hand from her mouth and embraced her again.

"Jakob, what do you mean with intimate?"

Jakob looked a bit red, and seeing her curious eyes, he looked away.

"Well…. You know what I mean…."

Pansy rolled her eyes.

"No, you idiot, the most intimate I have been is having been sleeping with you, so tell me!

Jakob tried to release himself and turn away, but pansy did not let him and held him using her arms and legs.

"Pansy, stop. It's weird that you ask me when we share a bed like this."

The girl laughed as he tried to make her let go, but she held a tight grip and seeing her happy again remembering what he had done to her wrist, he did not dare try harder.

"Alright, I will tell you," sighed Jakob, looking at her with a smirk.

"Well, it all started with a kiss on my cheek."

Pansy's eyebrow rose.

"Alright, then what?"

"A hug"

"A hug? But we hug all the time. What was special about that?"

"she was wearing a nightgown, and I only had my shorts. A little more special, don't you think?"

Pansy nodded and looked a bit disappointed in agreeing.

"Then she kissed me."

"She did? How was it?"

Jakob smiled.

"It was like… when you wake up for Christmas but ten times more powerful."

Pansy nodded, interested in hearing more.

"Then there was another kiss, which went a bit further tonight."

"Tell me!" she said, shaking him with her legs and arms that were still locking him.

Jakob chuckled a little before remembering the scheme.

"I was sitting on a chair, and she kissed me. But after a moment, she rose and sat on me, continuing to kiss me while I felt her fingers through my hair." Jakob saw that pansy was listening, noticing a faint redness.

"I took my hands and embraced her, and she was.."

Jakob stopped and looked a little worried.

"um, pansy, I think it would be best if you released me now," Jakob said, a small panic rising.

Pansy frowned at him at first, but then she thought he was joking.

"Is little Jakob feeling uncomfortable talking to his roommate about what feelings he has?" she laughed as Jakob tried to take her off him, and she held for.

"Pansy, I'm not joking. You need to get…."

Pansy tried to fight back but suddenly stopped when she felt something with wide eyes.

She released him Immediately, and they both looked at separate sides.

"I told you that my body and mind are acting weird," whispered Jakob.

"yes, I understand." said pansy back.

"Umm, so we might wanna sleep on separate sides tonight."

Pansy did not say anything, still lying at her side.

"Goodnight?" He halved said and asked.

"Uhu yeh, goodnight."

Pansy?"

"Yeh?"

We need to change. We are still in our school robes."

As Jakob woke up the next morning, pansy was lying in his arms, sleeping like she always used. She had, in her dream, apparently not agreed with the decision.

He gently tried to move off her, but the movement woke her up.

"What time is it?" asked pansy, rubbing her eyes and then, like she remembered, she stopped and looked at Jakob, and a blush crept back.

"I'm sorry," she said and moved away.

"Pansy, it's fine. Can we talk about this before we go, please? "

The roommate sat down beside him and listened to what Jake had to say.

"My body is acting a bit strange, and so is my temper. I will see what I can do, but until then, do you want to move the beds aside, or can you manage?"

Pansy sighed and lay back in bed.

"It's not that I'm just having the same thing going on, but I thought you would wait a bit until I was getting better. I don't want to sleep separately. and I don't know. Maybe it is a good thing that we go through this together?"

Jakob thought and then nodded.

"I think so, at least," said Jakob, pulling her back and giving her a hug.

"So we are okay, and nothing changed?"

"Yeah." nodded the girl. And then released herself.

"I'm going to go with Tracey, so I won't wait for you today.

Jakob nodded, and she left.

Jakob got into the bathroom and got ready.

When he was done, he went to the common room and met up with Draco, Theo, Blaze and Daphne.

"Do you what's up with pansy? She was being weird," said Draco.

"no", shrugged Jakob.

Daphne walked over to him and hooked her arm in his.

"Shall we go?" She asked the group, and they all went down to the great hall for breakfast.

The rumours about the death and the boys had reached all of Hogwarts. Dumbledor stood ready behind his when they all walked in.

Jakob sat down and prepared a toast and some bacon, knowing that the speech would take time and be lies upon lies as always.

When the Slytherin boy reached for the goblet, he locked eyes with Amy, who gave him only a glance but then started to talk with someone beside her that Jakob recognised from the Slytherin five. Think her name was Isabella Rosier? Jakob thought while taking a sip of the orange juice.

"Good morning, everyone," said Dumbledore and Jakob took a bite while he listened.

"Yesterday was a tragic day indeed." Not really. It was a success for me, at least. ChuckledJake in his mind.

"One of our students Mr Crow who was well-liked by many, passed away over what you kids would call a prank." No, he was murdered because he was a shit.

"Three students walked into the forbidden forest, and one was hit by a stunning spell. And this is why we at Hogwarts are adamant that you never go in there without a teacher's supervision," said Dumbledore looking at some people in Gryffindor. He was not wrong about that, thought Jakob and took another bite.

"We will have a memorial service after dinner tonight, and those who wish to pay their respect are welcome." Jakob made a face that said, yeah, like that's gonna happen and continued with his breakfast.

Dumbledor sat down again, and soon the owls started to flow in with the morning mail.

One landed beside him belonging to Blaze, and he took the daily Prophet and read the front page together with Jakob silently. It read.

Hogwarts students Berrow and Finnius were charged with manslaughter and sentenced to 1 year in juvenile and 9 years in Azkaban.

Jakob looked and read the lower text that described that the hearing had not gone well for the two pureblood kids having evidence and admitted to the charges beforehand. The judgement was quick, and Minister said after the meeting that this is what waited for those who think playing with Lifes is okay.

Jakob leaned back, continued eating his toast, and walked out of the great hall with a smirk.

As he rounded the corner on his way to herbology, he saw Amy standing in the courtyard reading a book.

Jakob walked over to her.

"Prefect. What are you doing out here on a morning like this?"

Amy did not look up from the book that she was reading.

"Mind your own business Mr Quade or do you wish to have detention ?" Jakob got the hint and gave a slight bow, ready to walk away.

By the way, Mr Quade," she said, closing her book and putting it on the seat beside her.

"You are summoned to a meeting this afternoon, and whatever else you have planned will be excused.

Jakob turned around.

"If that is what you wish, I will be there, miss Frome."

Amy gave him a nod and walked away.

Jakob, ready to turn around and walk, halted as he saw her book still lying on the bench.

It was the same book he had glanced at in his first year. The one with symbols started to move around, forming letters.

He looked around and saw that she was already gone, and no one else was there either.

He picked up the book and looked at the cover.

The symbols looked as foreign as they had the first time, but suddenly, they started to vibrate.

He squinted his eyes and felt the urge to rub them when he read the sentence that he had only got a word from the last time he read it.

Latent Darkness.

He sat down on the bench and opened the book. The same symbols started to rearrange, and the text became visible. It read.

The grimoire of Morgan ley Fey.

Darkness is in us all. Both non-magical and magical. In sentient beings as the grass, threes water and air. The only substance that does not have it is Fire. Light is the only place where darkness can never inhabit.

Some suppress their darkness and focus on the light. Others try to master both, and some try to master the dark, but only my line has the gift to truly become its master and not succumb to the illness that befalls those who are weak.

Jakob looked up in shock and awe. This book could explain everything.

He continued to read.

In my youth, I decided to make a deal with a creature so dark and evil that I dared not look upon it. It gave me a companion, a friend and a terrifying weapon. This gift would help me crush Merlin and take the throne from my incompetent non-magical brother.

The gift was a dark spirit from another realm. That spirit lived in Symbios with me and grew as my powers grew. When I had my son Yvane, he showed signs of continuing on this beautiful gift I Had created.

The darkness begins latent and grows more powerful and shows its presence when the wizard has enough strength to Summon it.

It can do wonderful things and terrible ones.

The easiest way I found to Summon it is by emotion or a blood sacrifice. Emotion triggers its awakening, and blood sacrifices force it to show.

Jakob heard someone walking on the castle stone, and he quickly hid the book in his robes.

I need to go to the library right now. The exited Slytherin thought and walked faster than normal.

Had he turned around, he would have seen Amy standing behind one of the stone walls smiling as she saw him walking away.

Jakob arrives at the library after s few moments and asks madam Pince for a copybook.

The older witch took out one from under her desk.

"that will be 2 galleons."

Jakob paid the lady and then walked over to a more secluded part.

When he arrived at a round table, Jakob glanced around to see that he was alone. The second year put down the black book, and the. Lay the other blank boom beside it.

"Effingo Illud," he said and tapped the book.

"Effingo Illud," he said again and tapped the blank book making it look like an exact copy.

He put one of the books in his bag and the original in his robe. While Jakob walked out, he waved to the librarian, who rolled her eyes.

Jakob then rushed to the herbology classroom and knew he was late.

He knocked on the greenhouse door and heard professor sprout call out,

"come in!" Jakob opened the door and walked inside.

"Sorry for being late, professor. A first-year student had fallen and scraped their knees, so I helped them to the infirmary and then ran back here as fast as I could."

"Oh dear, well then. You can stand beside Mr Longbottom."

Jakob groaned inwards as he stood on the Gryffindor side beside Longbottom.

"Today, we will go over the mandrake. Does anyone know anything about them?" Said Sprout and gestured for Granger to speak as she was first to raise her hand.

When Hermione spoke, Jakob noticed that the Longbottom boy was mouthing the answer with her.

"Hey," said Jakob, and the chubby-faced boy jerked.

"Calm down. Why did you not raise your hand if you know the answer?"

Neville, who did not dare look the Slytherin in the eyes, whispered back.

"I love herbology, but I'm not really a speaker."

Jakob nodded. And the class continued. They were going to replant the mandrakes into new bigger pots, and Sprout told them to group up in pairs.

"Let me see what you can do, okay?" Whispered Jakob to Longbottom and got a nervous nod back. During the lesson, Jakob was baffled. The useless boy was not a complete fool. Jakob had to focus on keeping up, and he actually enjoyed the herbology class for the first time as Longbottom whispered small tips to him that were not in the books.

"How do you know all this?" asked Jakob, almost a bit jealous now.

"I have a big greenhouse at home, and I have a lot of plants. so I spend my time there." Shrugged Longbottom a bit more confident now that he saw the best student in his year seeing his potential.

He was even better than Jakob and knew exactly how to grasp the plant. Neville pointed out that some of the leaves could be a sign of over-watering. Jakob made a decision when the class was over.

He could not use his club as a means to get more help from the Longbottom because that would mean payment. But he could do something else.

They all were packing their bags, and Jakob whispered to the boy.

"Hey, if you need any help with anything, you can always come and ask me."

The Longbottom boy looked unsure.

"why? Why would you want to help me?"

Jakob nodded to the mandrake.

"Because if I help you, you can help me get better at herbology. Fair trade, right?

Neville smiled a bit but still not being able to look at Jakob, he said.

"yeah, alright, cool."

Jakob nodded and headed off when he heard Draco call for him.

When they walked to lunch. As the group of Slytherins walked in the corridors, Daphne took her arm around his and smiled back at him.

Jakob smiled back at the girl he had always thought he would be with. Daphne had always been Jealous. Jakob had always had that in the back of his mind when he walked with other girls. But this was the first time the Quade heir worried someone else would catch them. And knowing the person he was worried about, he took an extra glance when they entered the great hall just to be sure that she was not giving him a death glare.

They sat and ate lunch together, and Jakob waved to Ella, sitting at the Ravenclaw table, chatting with Luna about something.

Jakob enjoyed his lunch, and when he saw that Amy and her class had walked inside, he waited for her to sit before he rose up and walked over to her.

"Miss Frome, I'm sorry to disturb you, but I noticed you had dropped your book."

Amy looked at the book with a frown and yanked it out of his hand.

"Thanks, bye," said the girl and Jakob gave her a nog back and turned around. He felt irritated over how she treated him even if she had to. A thought came into his mind. Was she going to hold her end of the deal this afternoon, or was she planning something else? He was close to Turning around to say something but changed his mind. I will wait for the meeting. I have never been betrayed by her before, so why would she now.

When lunch was over, Jake went to transfiguration.

The class was uninteresting, seeing that they only talked about what they had learned the year before and what they would continue with this year. In the end, they were given homework to write an essay about what they thought was the most important thing they learned last year and why.

When the class was over, he told his friends that he was going to a meeting and would not attend potions, but Snape would understand

He then walked down to the Dungeons and entered his common room, where four people stood waiting for him.

Jakob nodded and greeted them.

"Miss Frome, Miss Rosier, Miss Vanity and Mr Flint," Jakob said and took a slight bow after each name. He then turned to Amy and asked.

"You wanted to speak with me?"

"Yes, you are right on time. Follow us," said Amy, now giving him a smile, and they walked over to the door that did not have a king or queen on it.

When the group had all entered, with Jakob entering last, They all sat down, and Quade, who did not have a seat, stood up.

"Mr Quade, we have summoned you here today because of the potential we all see in you," said Amy, who sat on her usual seat and not in the royal-looking one.

Jakob nodded but did not say anything.

"We also know that you are quite rebellious and only listen to one person in the entire school," said Vanity, who then looked at Amy with a smirk.

Ah, so that's why she was talking to me like that. To show that she had me under control.

Amy stood up.

"You have shown the Slytherin house that you can bring a lot to the table and can hold your own if needed. We have decided to offer you something that has never been offered to a second year before."

Jakob's heartbeat quickened, and he tried not to smirk.

"We will offer you a place here at this table," said Amy and gestured to the table and people that were sitting around it. The black-haired boy looked around and saw that the group was giving him a smile as his eyes roamed over them, telling him that they were supporting the decision.

"That also means that you will attend the meetings and answer only to your king or queen. But be warned. This seat gives power, but you if accept, you make s commitment. There is a reason that second years have not until now been allowed to join. You will not be able to leave your seat when shit hits the fan or when the homework becomes difficult, and being a second year, you are bound more years than the normal student to responsibilities that will last until you graduate."

Jakob nodded.

"So. What is your answer, Mr Quade?"

Jakob smiled.

"I will accept, of course."

They all clapped, some more than others, and Amy rose from her chair and offered it to him.

Sitting on the right side of the empty seat, he saw her walking around the table.

"As everyone knows now, Damon has ended his Hogwarts studies here. That means a new king or queen must be chosen, and now that we are five again, we can start a vote. I will call up the names in here, and you will raise your wand if you put your vote to that person."

She stopped behind the throne.

"Amy Frome," she said, grabbing the throne likes chair and looking with firm eyes upon the four students that were sitting there.

Jakob and the rest of the circle put up their wands, and Amy smiled at them.

"unanimous, that is how it should be."

She took a seat on the throne and inhaled, closing her eyes for a moment.

"Now on to business."

They went around the table and discussed what they all had planned and if they had noticed something.

Marcus flint began.

"Quidditch tryouts are beginning next week. We have 3 spots that we need to be filled. I have also received a generous gift from Lord Malfoy. He is gifting the Slytherin house new brooms that..."

Marcus was cut off by Amy, who raised her hand.

"He tries to bribe you? Lord Malfoy knows the Slytherin code very well."

Marcus shrugged and stated.

"He did not want anything in return. He just gifted the Slytherin house new brooms."

The queen, who was beginning to lose her calm, looked unimpressed with the quidditch captain.

"Quade, as the newest member here, why don't you tell us what you think lord Malfoy is planning."

Jakob looked around and saw that they were looking at him, some interested and some smirking like they knew he had fallen into a trap.

"My queen", the youngest of them spoke and gave a slight bow.

"Lord Malfoy knows the rules, and therefore he gives the brooms as a gift, not revealing that his son probably will try out as a seeker."

Amy nodded and looked at Marcus.

"It's not alchemy, you know."

Marcus nodded and looked away.

"So what, Quade, do you think we should do now that we have received this bribe?"

Jakob thought for a moment.

"We should take it as it is, a gift. Returning it would insult lord Malfoy, and who knows, maybe the heir Malfoy would complete the tryouts.

"What if your friend does not make it then?" asked the Rosier girl looking at Jakob through her glasses.

"If he does not make it, he does not make it. The Slytherin team will not fall because of weaknesses such as friendship or bribes."

Said Jakob and shrugged.

The girl seemed okay with that answer and ignored him.

Amy smirked.

"Right then, now on to the next one. "

Isabella Rosier looked to her queen and gave a nod.

"There have been rumours about what happened to the three boys and Damon. So my question to you all is. Do the Slytherin five meddle with this, or do we not?"

"Do we even know what happened to the the three Slytherins?"

No one answered, and the queen nodded.

"We will not meddle with that. It is just as you said. Rumours and they will die in time. And about our past Slytherin king Damon."

Said Amy and looked everyone in the eyes.

"We know that he ended his term here and why. They all do. He was a coward and ran when he knew his friend had died and his other two friends were put away for the murder."

No one said anything, and the queen looked around, observing if anyone disagreed with her.

"We will not meddle in that either. It will die in time."

Isabella nodded, and then Amy turned to Abby Vanity.

"my queen," she said and continued.

Two Gryffindors in the fourth year had been pranking the Slytherins pretty hard recently. And they have gone too far on the first years. We need to protect them."

Amy sighed.

"It's those Bloody Weasley twins again. Rosier and Flint, you will take care of them." Flint and Rosier smirked and nodded to Amy.

"And now, to our youngest member, Quade, do you have something to report?"

Jakob shook his head.

"Nothing at this moment, my queen."

Amy gave him a nod, and they continued the meeting. Discuss different problems that might arise after the events and how to best remedy them.

When the meeting was over, they all stood, and the three others left, but Jakob felt an invisible force making him stop in his track.

He stayed behind, and the door closed, leaving him and his queen alone.

"Now we both have kept our ends of the deal." Said Amy as Jake turned around.

"You will be a fine Queen, and I look forwards to these two years standing beside you," said Jakob walking towards her.

Amy gave him a smirk, and when he got close enough, she embraced him and kissed him.

"I must go soon, but I just wanted to thank you for retrieving my book. You really are gentlemen."

She kissed him again, and just as they had started to get a bit more passionate, she broke it with heavier breathing and a blush on her face.

"I told you I needed to go. We will continue this later, okay?"

Jakob sighed and nodded.

She gave him one more smile before he left the room.

Jakob continued to the great hall for dinner, sat with his friends, and ate.

"Mr Quade, I was rather displeased to see that you weren't knocking on my door yesterday?"

Jakob looked at Draco, who sat in Infront of him with a pained expression. Draco smirked back and nudged Theo, who was talking to Blaze, and they all enjoyed the boy's torment.

"I'm sorry, Mr Lockhart, I was busy helping a first year with a potion homework."

Lockhart nodded.

"Of course, you are a true friend Mr Quade, and after your reasoning, I will offer you this unforgettable experience again when the time is right. "

Jakob nodded and thanked the professor, who walked away heroically.

"Why is he so insistent on me asked Jakob to everyone around him. I hate that guy. He is useless."

Draco was sitting and giggling with Theo.

Jakob took up his wand, and both boys stopped.

"Listen, mate, you might want to dial down on the knowledge." Said Theo raising his arm in defeat.

"Why?" said Jakob pointing his wand like he had the boy at gunpoint.

Draco, who knew the two boys were fooling around, watched in amusement.

"Because I believe that he wants your help with the fanmail because you would know everything about him and be able to sound like him in his mail."

Jakob stopped his game and frowned.

"That's actually brilliant, Theo," Jakob said, stunned that the boy had figured something out that he couldn't.

Draco looked proudly at his roommate.

"He is not totally useless, at least", joked Draco."

"So that leaves me with bad grades or punishment for being too good," said Jakob sighing and leaning back a bit.

"Well, it's a better punishment than if I fail the class," said Jakob, and the two pureblood boys understood what he had meant by that.

After dinner, Jakob walked up through the stairs and had his second lesson with the first and second years.

He noted that there were no Slytherins today either and sighed in relief.

They all went inside and started.

Jakob did what he had done the last time and helped everyone except the two he really did not want in his classroom.

When the club was ending, they all packed their bags and Jakob, who was prepared to have s nice long talk with Hermione, turned to the girl, who gave him an apologetic smile as she hurried away with Harry and Ron, that had been standing there and waiting for her.

"Huh… that was weird." Jakob knew that the girl had created new bonds, but he kind of missed her company.

Last year had been so heated, and he thought that he would get more time this year with the bushy-haired girl, but now it was she who did not have time for him.

"They grow up so fast." he smiled as he sat down and started to read a book on rituals. He had tried for a long time to figure out what he had done wrong with Pansy but had not found anything yet. But as more time passed, he also started to search less. He knew that she deserved better, but they had found something, and everything they had gone through had built something in the Slytherin boy. He searched anyways but almost felt like he did not want an answer sometimes.

Jakob took an evening stroll outside again, not wanting everyone in the Slytherin house to jump him, when they got the news that he was now one of the Slytherin five.

He walked down the steps to Hagrids Hutt and was met by a crying big man.

Jakob frowned and walked over. Seeing that a lot of roosters were piled up dead.

"Hagrid?" said Jakob looking a the roosters.

The big man had not noticed the young Slytherin and jumped.

"Mr Quade, don't do that!"

"What happened here? The boy asked.

"I don't know. Someone thought it would be a good joke, I guess."

Jakob looked closer and saw that the injuries were stab wounds, and they were all directed at one place. Jakob guessed it was the heart.

"Hagrid, I don't think they were joking. They went for the heart."

Hagrid looked at the boy, confused.

"What does that mean then?"

"That means that you should show dumbledor this," said Jakob and they talked a few more minutes before Jakob said goodbye.

He could not endure the half-giant crying like that, but he thought something about those stab wounds seemed familiar. Was it a ritual or something else?

When he walked back to the Slytherin common room, he was met by people applauding him.

Draco and his other friends walked up to him.

"You did not tell us you became a member of the Slytherin five!" yelled Draco over the applause.

"I was not allowed to." said Jakob shrugging."

"Anyways, good job, mate!" said his Blonde best friend and patted him on the back.

Jakob looked around at the people who had greeted him.

Jakob leaned in.

"Why are they clapping?"

"Because you are the first, second-year ever to be allowed to join. It's an honour for everyone here to witness that." Said Blaze, who had walked forward and shaken Jakob's hand

Jakob thanked them and nodded. When it all calmed down, he went over to his friends sitting at their usual place on the couch.

Jake sat there for a while, noticing that Pansy had clapped but not said anything more after.

Jake later said goodnight to everyone and went inside his room. He brushed his teeth and changed into his Boxers. He lay on his bed and took out the book that he had copied. Saliza had gone out for a while, guessed Jakob seeing his window door open.

"Finally, he whispered to himself."

And opened the book.

I have yet to understand the full meaning of what this power entails, but as I have dedicated my life to it, I can say with certainty that those who bear this gift will not fall prey to the illness that becomes visible if one uses dark magic.

Jakob's eyes widen. That was something new, he thought and continued, looking like a little child holding a Christmas present.

In my youth, I found the allure of dark magic. I tried many times to speak with Merlin about finding a way to be able to cast it without feeling the pesky fingers of death closing in.

Merlin was too righteous and weak. My teacher only spoke of failed attempts and lives lost to that cause. But I knew in my heart that I, one day, would find the awnser.

I searched the earth and went on far trips to where the sand was scorching hot, and people were awake at night and slept during the day.

I went inside an old ruin that said to hold treasures and found something there. A stone with runes that I would never be able to read if it was not for Merlin.

He translated the writings and uncovered a ritual.

A ritual that summoned spirits from another realm that could inhabit a powerful magic being such as myself.

Merlin, that fool tried to stop me and took away the inscription I had made to do the ritual. Unfortunately for him, he found himself dead the morning after, and it was unfortunate but nevertheless necessary.

When the night is as darkest, and not even the moon's shine shows any present, that is when you can open the gate.

Some call the land beyond the gate for Inferna. Some calm it, Abis, but I know it as hell.

Jakob saw s picture of a pentagram, but it looked upside down and had a lot of runes carved into it. A woman was standing outside it, and a smaller person was lying in the middle. Jakob read on.

As the runes and shapes must be precise, it took a while, but I finally made one worthy of being used.

I put a worthy victim inside.

Not even 15 summers and a virgin, I sacrificed her to the darkness and with the incantation" Tenebrae Obediunt Mihi. The gate opened.

Jakob frowned. That means darkness obeys me, right?

He shook his head and read.

I knew that it was a worthy victim when I heard the screams and saw blood flowing freely from her holes and down into the earth.

The gate opened, and a shadowy being grabbed her pulling her down to the abyss.

I heard a voice in my head. A voice that would grant me a gift worthy of this sacrifice, and I choose darkness.

A piece of the shadow floated towards me, and I gladly accepted it when I felt it connecting with my soul.

"What are you reading?" Jakob jumped as he heard Pansy talk while she walked inside.

"just a book with symbols," said Jakob and put it away.

"Have you been reading it since you got inside?"

Jakob nodded.

Pansy looked at the book and then glanced at Jakob again.

"So Umm. I am happy that you finally entered the Slytherin five. Amy must be pleased?"

Jakob nodded.

"She is, but you don't seem so happy?"

Pansy shook her head and smiled, walking over to him.

"I am. It's not that it's just... now you will be spending more time with her, and I don't know..."

Jakob sighed and pulled her to him.

"Nothing is changing, alright. Stop with that. We are friends, and what in our life does not concern anyone else, okay? And besides, Amy and I are not a couple. And probably won't be at Hogwarts anyways." said Jakob waving his hand and swatting the worries away.

His roommate released a sigh of relief.

"Alright, good. Whatever happens, does not concern anyone else, and you won't ever break our agreement?"

Jakob laughed, and when he saw that pansy was looking at him with a firm look, he said.

"yeah, no breaking it, I promise."

The days went by, and suddenly the quidditch tryouts were about to start. Jakob had promised Draco that he would be trying out as well but could not imagine that he would have the time to do everything he needed to, plus being active in training.

Draco, who held his new Nimbus 2001, looked at Jakob holding the same. Looking very bored. They stood on the quidditch field with a lot of other Slytherins.

"Jakob, you could look a little more bored," said Draco.

"Honestly, Draco, this is your thing, not mine. Remember, if you don't make the team i-"

"I won't bla bla bla. Come on now, don't be a drag. This is fun."

Draco gave a soft punch on his shoulder, and Jakob raised his eyebrow.

"Bloody hell, do you want me to curse you? Smile a little." said the blonde, losing his spark.

Jakob smirked. Alright, whatever. Draco, what will you try out for?"

Draco scratched his chin. Probably seeker. But if I got to be a chaser, I could roll with that. How about you, Jake?"

Jakob looked over at the people walking towards the pitch with a chest.

"Probably seeker, but I could roll to be a chaser."

"You joking, right?" said Draco, a little nervous.

"Of course, I'm joking. I won't go with chaser."

"But you look so big and strong, would not be better suited for a beater?" asked Draco like he asked someone for a cookie even though he knew he had been bad.

Jakob rolled his eyes. Maybe a beater would fit me best. Then I don't need to be so active at practice and only do my best at the games, though, Jakob. Marcus and Pucey came up and stood Infront of them all.

" Today, you will try out for the the best team in Hogwarts. This will not be easy, and don't expect that status," said Marcus and looked at Jakob, who smiled back.

"Or other Things," he looked at Draco.

"Will help you here. Slytherin will win the cup, and we will do it because we are the best."

They all cheered at Marcus for the speech and were grouped into teams.

" Quade, you will be what do you wish to apply for?." Questioned Marcus and Jakob looked at Draco with a smirk.

"I want to try out for beater." The captain nodded and gave him a bat.

" Malfoy, you will be a seeker." Draco gave a smile and sat on his broom.

The red team was of Jakob and the blue of Draco.

The other student, Jake, did not really know. They were upper year, and he supposed that now that he was in Slytherin five, he needed to get to know them better.

The game started, and Jakob's team took the Quaffle, and. Jakob, who saw a bludge heading his way, hit it, and it flew right on one of the opposite chasers that were about to grab the ball from his chasers.

The boy almost fell off his broom, and Jakob smirked, but his smile did not last long.

The opposite team had a girl that went below the boy holding the Quaffle, and she burst up and took hold of it. Her hair was dark blonde, and she looked a bit small for a chaser, but that did not stop her.

She then passed her teammate, who passed it back to her as Jakob sent a bludger his way, hitting the boy's head and falling off his broom.

The girl flew towards the right goal hoop and scored.

Jakob looked surprised and flew down to her.

" You did well there. What's your name?"

The girl glared at him and flew away.

The Quaffle was released again, and this time Jakob was ready. He flew past, stopped her from grabbing it, and then backed away, looking for a bludger. When he found one, he directed it to the girl, who rolled around and easily avoided it.

The game continued, and Draco's team were winning. The girl had surprised everyone with her speed and skill, even using a school broom.

Draco, who had been trying to help initially, noted that he was not needed and searched for the snitch. Eventually, he grabbed it before Jakob's seeker even noticed it and Jake, who was sweating. Cursed his incompetent team of idiots.

Flint blew a whistle, and they all flew down to the pitch.

" We have three spots, and I will call the names who have earned them. Said Flint and the team prepared.

" For the seeker, we have chosen Mr Malfoy." Draco did a first bump in the air, and the student that had been wanting it walked away.

" For a chaser, we have chosen to go with Tornbell," said Marcus and a boy Jakob thought played good only because he had the girl on his team stepped forward.

" For beater, we have chosen Quade." began Marcus but stopped as Jakob interrupted him.

"What hold up," the sweaty boy walked over to Pucey and Markus, who looked annoyed at being interrupted.

" With all due respect, heir flint, but why not pick the girl? She was the star of the play," whispered Jakob to the guy, who still managed to look like a troll when he smirked.

" Quade, if you have not noticed, we are the only guys in this team. Having girls will only complicate matters. The rules state that everyone is allowed to try out, but we decide who gets in." said Marcus.

Jakob looked back and saw that the student was listening in, and Jake noticed that the girl he was speaking about had a glint of hope in her eyes.

" Marcus, listen to me. Take her on her team, and get rid of the guy. I guarantee you that she will win the game for you."

Marcus looked at Pucey, who smirked back.

" Tell you what, Quade, if she helps us win against Gryffindor, I will allow her on the team, but if she fails... "

" I will give you 500 galleons for the trouble interrupted Jakob, and the people in the back gasped.

" You really sure about this, aren't you?" asked Marcus."

" As I told you before, it does not matter who you are, only that you make the Slytherin house proud." Jakob reached out his hand, but before Marcus took it, Jakob said.

" If you or anyone in our team tries to sabotage her or the game, the deal is off, alright?"

Marcus snorted.

" Like I would purposely lose to Gryffindors."

Jakob smiled, and they shook hands.

Alright, you all heard what Quade said. Tornbell, you will be a substitute until what's your name?" said Marcus looking at the dark blonde girl.

"It's Clara Nott." said the girl.

" Miss Nott. You will be tried and play against the Gryffindors. There, we will decide if you are truly worthy of Slytherin."

They all started to walk, and Jakob took his arm around Draco.

" Good job, mate. I knew you would get in by talent."

Draco smirked and was about to say something, but they heard a voice behind them.

"thank you, heir Quade. I will not forget this."

Jakob turned around with Draco and saw the girl in front of them holding her broom.

Jakob walked over to her.

" I've bet a lot of money that you will, so I hope so."

He looked over at the school broom she was carrying.

" Why don't you have your own broom?"

The girl looked at the old broom and then at Jakob.

" Because my father did not think I would make the team, so he saw no reason for me to have one."

Clara answered, and Jakob felt weird that a upper-year classmates were talking to him with the same respect the first years did.

Jakob looked back at Draco, who waited for him.

" You are Theo's sister, right?"

" Yes, he is my little brother." supplied the dar blonde girl.

" Well, make your little brother proud then," said Jakob, handing over his own broom to the girl who looked confused.

" Take it. If you play that good on an old broom, I can't wait to see what you can do on this. If you make it next game, your father will give you a new broom. If not, you can keep this one."

" What!?" he heard Draco behind him but ignored it.

Clara raised her hand to take it but stopped.

" I can't. It's…."

Jakob rolled his eyes and pushed it into her hand.

" See it as an investment. If you win for Slytherin, you pay it off, and if you make it into the pro leagues, I will expect great seats at your games."

Clara looked both shocked and immensely happy, holding the broom and nodded.

Jakob gave her a smile and walked over to Draco, who had a what the hell did you just do look on his face.

" don't be weird, Draco. You know that I can buy how many I want and your father only gave the current team new brooms. The new additions need one as well."

" But you don't have one now, you idiot!" said the blonde, still wearing that face.

Jakob shrugged.

"I will owl Susie to get me a new one. And I'm a beater. I don't need to come to practice, so I have plenty of time to get one.

Draco shook his head, and they both walked in to prepare for the next class.

The rest of the week went by, and soon the weekend was upon them.

Jakob had tried to find time to talk to Amy, but she had been busy getting the Slytherins in check and had very little time for private matters.

Jakob was currently sitting on a couch in the Slytherin common room. Having Saliza curled up inside his robes on her own behalf, saying that she needed more of him, whatever that meant, thought Jakob, but he felt that it was nice having her so close to him.

She was currently sleeping after a full dinner, and Jakob was reading his book.

He had been reading some more of the history, but all it told was that Morgan had found a husband and that she had become pregnant and had a son.

Now Jakob read something that made him very interested.

Apparently, she had mediated and could now use her darkness at will and not only when emotions were greatly heightened.

The boy had to try it, closed his book, and went into his empty dorm. He sat down and closed his eyes.

He tried to feel the darkness inside him but could not sense anything.

He sat there for what felt like hours, feeling and sensing.

He started to get annoyed now, and his breath quickened a bit.

Jakob frowned. There was something there.

He sensed something stir inside him and tried to pinpoint it. A picture in his mind floated up, and he saw a sphere of blue light and a dark misty circle around it.

"I found it," whispered Jakob, still with his closed eyes.

He looked at it and, in his mind, commanded it to be used.

He opened his eyes and raised his clenched hand, and unfoiled it.

A dark Mist was emanating from it and rose up a bit.

Jakob was about to move his hand closer when he felt the connection break, and the boy sighed. Saliza had slithered into her hole to continue to sleep.

" I knew that it would not be that simple."

He sat on the floor and tried again and again. In the end, he closed his eyes for what seemed to be 100:th times and then opened them, unclenching his first.

The darkness looked more filled, and he directed it at the desk lamp. "Impetum," said the boy firmly and the mist that had seemed so calm shot out like a channelling beam of black smoke.

It hit the lamp, disintegrated it Immediately and continued on the wall behind him.

Jakob, who had seen the shadow destroy the lamp and began digging into the wall after just a second, broke the contact, and the darkness evaporated.

He got up amazed, and walked over. The previously lamp now lay in a heap of black powder. The wall behind it had a fist-sized hole and was more than 30 centimetres deep.

"Holy shit," he whispered as he touched the wall. He then felt himself wave forth and had to take hold of the wall.

"Must have taken a lot out of me", he chuckled, straightening up and then saw stars.

"not good", he whispered and fell down.
