Chapter 16: Quidditch and the horn of Quade.
Jakob had tried for two weeks to get the hang of his newfound shadow gift.
Every time he tried to summon it, the result had been the same, fainting. Once, he had even puked before fainting, which made for a very angry, worried and slightly disgusted Pansy having a long talk with him.
He trained every evening for an hour because there were many other things he had going on, so to pass out in the afternoon was not ideal for the young Slytherin. But the result had been the same even after countless different attempts.
The day before their first quidditch match against the Gryffindors, Jakob sat in his classroom reading. He had just finished his club activity, and his friend had once again left him when Potter and Weasley called for her.
The Slytherin boy had been increasingly irritated that she did not even give him five minutes. But right now, there was something else on his mind.
He was reading his book, trying to find out if there was a way to make him able to summon his darkness without the unpleasant side effect.
As he sat in his empty classroom, the only noise that could be heard was the flipping of the book's pages.
Jake noticed that Morgan had been 34 when she got the gift, and there was not much about her son. Only that he had shown signs that the shadow lay latent in him.
He sighed and put the book down.
"Either I wait until my body grows or…." he said loudly, hoping that he could finish the sentence.
When nothing came, he sighed.
"I don't understand. I have already gone through one ritual it should not be…." Jakob stooped.
"Ritual," he whispered to himself and then rushed down to the Slytherin common room.
He opened the entrance, walked quickly towards his dorm, and ignored his friends calling for him.
When Jakob went inside, he opened his trunk and walked inside to his library.
"Where are you?" he asked while he walked and touched the different books on his bookshelf.
"Aha!" he said while grabbing the red book he had read last year about blood rituals.
He flipped the pages and stopped at a certain one where a picture was shown and a text underneath it. It read.
To be able to do a blood ritual, you must have the sacrifice required to power the magic.
This often is the one's own blood or if the ritual is demanding enough a life.
Magic and purity are the most powerful fuel, and if it's not balanced to the request, it will result in failure or death.
"So I need a sacrifice that has equal magical blood of what I seek to enhance myself with," said Jakob sitting down on his armchair.
"That would mean I need to kill someone or something with magical reserves that I require." Thought Jakob loudly.
He did not know what he could use. The forbidden forest held a lot of magical creatures, but he doubted that they would stay silent if a student went in and killed one of them for something illegal.
"Shit, I need to find something else if I want any progress," he said disappointedly.
The first quidditch game was beginning, and the Slytherin team stood two by two inside one of the tunnels, waiting to be announced so they could fly out.
Jacob, who stood beside his blonde friend, saw his nervousness.
"Don't worry mate, you will do fine. Just don't let Potter get under your skin."
Draco sneered.
"That idiot won't get to me… but he is good and has a good broom."
"Don't worry about him. It's my job to ensure he is out after a few minutes." Said Jakob grabbing his bat.
"Alright, people, get ready. They will soon call us out," said Marcus, and the Quidditch team mounted their brooms.
When they heard Jordan yell out the Slytherin team, they all flew out and were met by a deafening roar from their side.
They flew around the pitch while the commentator talked about them, and Jakob frowned when Jordan said.
"Here we have the Slytherin team, who we hope can play a fair game this year for once. And there is their new seeker, Malfoy has shown that money can buy everything."
The beater flew to the box where Jordan was speaking and leaned in.
"I would not be so quick to accuse the Malfoy when the lord of the house is sitting two rows behind you."
The commentator glanced back and saw Lucius glaring daggers at him, and he turned around. Covering the mic.
"I'm sorry, alright."
Jacob rolled his eyes.
"don't be an idiot, and don't belittle us again, or you might discover that you easily are replaced."
He then flew off and heard Jordan talk about the Gryffindor team instead.
Both teams flew into a circle, and Jakob saw the Weasley twins smirking at him.
Madam Hooch walked out to the pitch and stopped before the open chest containing the balls.
"I want a nice and fair play by you all," the cat-eyed professor said, observing both teams, which made everyone a bit nervous.
She kicked the chest, freeing the bludgers and a golden snitch.
Draco and Harry tried to keep their eyes on the small ball, but it disappeared high up in the sky after a few seconds.
Madam Hooch took up the quaffle, and after she took a stern lock at the students around her, she threw it high up in the air, and the game began.
Nott grabbed it and dodged a Gryffindor female chaser who flew right at her. The blonde chaser then passed it to Marcus, who flew higher up in the air together with her passing it around with a speed that the Gryffindors could not dream of matching.
Jakob had, before the match, talked with Bole, the other Beater. They would focus on Potter and keep the bludgers away from the Gryffindor Beaters.
Jacob went for one of the violent balls, and Bole after the other one. They were much faster than The Weasley twins, who were on the same path. Jakob, who saw that Harry was closing in on Marcus and the quaffle, swang his club, and the bludger soared through the air.
Just as Harry was about to collide with it, one of the twins flew Infront of him and sent the bludger the other way, smirking at the failed attempt.
Jakob looked over at Bole and gave him a nod.
The other Slytherin beater Hurled away another bludger directed 10 meters from one of the Weasley twins. The redhead who thought Bole just sucked at controlling it started to laugh, but Jakob had flown and was now also ten meters to Weasleys right.
Jakob timed the bludger and shot it straight at the redhead, who only could hear his brother yell too late for him to Dodge.
As he turned around, the bludger crashed into the boy, and one of the two twins fell.
One down, one to go, thought Jakob.
But now that the Gryffindor team knew that they were after the beaters, they moved the other one behind the chasers having a close eye on him.
Jakob tried a few shots, but the other redhead always had two extra eyes that could help him defend himself.
Bole continued to swing at the Wesley boy forcing the Gryffindor team to play defensive, which made the Slytherin chaser's job easier, and they had already scored 40 points to Gryffindors 0.
Jake looked over at Draco, who was helping the chasers score and frowned.
He should be watching Potter. If he catches the snitch, we will still lose.
As Jakob thought of Potter, he started to look around for the boy.
He found his prey and noticed that Harry was flying at blinding speed. Jakob's stomach dropped when he saw the golden blur in front of harry, and his eyes widened.
"Shit!" he yelled as he pushed his broom.
He caught a budget and sent it towards Harry, but Potter had accelerated too much, resulting in him being too fast and dodging it without a problem.
"Draco!" Jakob yelled, and the blonde who had been cheering with his friends after yet another goal saw that Jakob was desperately trying to take down Harry.
Draco pushed his broom to the limit towards the two boys.
Meanwhile, Jakob saw that Harry would soon be able to catch the snitch, and he tried to determine the path he would take.
When Jakob believed he knew where he changed his direction and flew in a straight line.
He watched the platform of the Hufflepuffs come closer and closer, and he saw that they started to move away, afraid that he would collide with them.
Just as he was about to hit them, he saw a lightening fast golden dot and then Jakob raised his shoulder, closed his eyes and prepared for impact.
Harry, who almost could touch the snitch, had such tunnel vision that he did not notice the Slytherin beater who rammed straight into him from the side with such force and speed that they both were knocked from their brooms.
The impact injured both players as they both fell onto the platform. Jakob and Harry rolled around a few times, and then they both stopped. The crowd went silent, and both teams stopped what they were doing as everyone watched if someone would get up. Jakob felt the healing starting, and he slowly started to roll onto his back. The Slytherin beater sat up, shaking his head, trying to make the image in front of him stop spinning around.
The Slytherins roared, seeing their beater getting up and the Gryffindor seeker still lying down. When Jake stood, he wobbled a little to the side and had to use a Hufflepuff as a pillar.
When he saw his broom lying on the platform a few meters to his left, he mounted it and flew back into the game.
But then came a whistle. Madam Hooch, who had never witnessed such a suicide mission in the history of her carrier, had been too stunned to react in time and seeing the boy rise up and continue on with the game made her take a few seconds more before she blew her whistle.
The game paused, and the teachers went over to collect Harry, who still lay on the platform with Hufflepuff's trying to take care of him.
The judge flew over to Jakob, as did his captain, who knew what waited.
"Mr Quade, you have attacked the opposite team, and in a way, I never hope to see anyone try again. You will be placed in the penalty box for 5 hours or until the game is finished."
Jakob nodded while Marcus tried his best to talk with Hooch, but even he knew that what Jakob just had done was not allowed.
When Jakob turned to fly over to the penalty box, he saw that Markus gave him a smirk and a thumbs up.
The match continued. The game became heavily one-sided without the Gryffindors seeker and the Slytherins being too fast. Draco caught the snitch an hour later, making the scores 260 to 30.
Jakob, who had been up in the penalty box, jumped on his broom and flew down to his team. They flew around celebrating the victory with each other and the rest of the Slytherins in the stands.
They heard the roar of Cheers from the students and watched as the arena roared Slytherin! Slytherin! Slytherin!
When they returned to the changing room, they all were sore and tired.
While working on his left shoulder pad, Jakob was surprised to see Marcus walking over to him with the rest of the Slytherin team watching them.
"In all my years, I have never seen someone willingly do what you did."
Jakob shrugged. I had Potter to cushion my fall.
The team chuckled, but Markus did not. He observed Jakob and then took his arm and raised it.
"This move shall now and forever be called the Horns of Quade, and This is the star of the game. Tonight we will celebrate him for our glorious victory!"
They all cheered, and Jakob turned to Marcus.
"So Nott is on the team, then?"
Marcus looked over at the girl who stood further away, trying her best to pretend she did not hear them.
Marcus looked over to Jakob again.
"She did a good job, but it was you who won us the game, not her."
Jakob crossed his arms.
"She made most of the chaser's points, and this was her first match."
Marcus nodded and looked back at her.
"Hey, Nott!" Marcus yelled, and the girl looked over at the two boys.
"You proved yourself today. You will be a starting chaser. Don't let this moment go to waste."
The girl tried to hold her smile while she gave him a nod but failed.
"I will see that Slytherin win every game, captain!"
Marcus nodded.
"See that you do."
They all got ready and hurried away, except for Jakob, who wanted to take a moment to relax before he celebrated. He took a bit longer in the shower and slowly put on his clothes before grabbing his broom and leaving the changing room.
As he walked out into the cold evening, he saw that Clara was waiting for him outside.
"I wish to accompany you back to the castle if you don't mind, heir Quade."
Jacob shrugged, and they walked, holding their identical brooms beside one another in silence.
"I wanted to thank you for all of this," said Clara as they walked on the path that led up to the main gate.
Jacob looked straight forward and heard the ground crunch as they walked on the pathway. He breathed out and saw vapour coming out from his mouth.
"You don't have to thank me, miss Nott. I did what was best for Slytherin. If you had not proven yourself and shown your potential, you would not have been in this team."
Clara nodded, and silence took over once again. Jakob glanced over at her and saw that she was trying to form a new sentence in her mind, and the Slytherin boy smiled a bit.
"Your father came to see the match today, correct?"
Clara nodded, looking up at him.
"He did, and he told Theo after the game that he was very proud. He told me that I would have a new broom so I could return this to you."
Jacob looked at his second broom.
"Keep it as a gift. If you ever doubt yourself or your ability, I want you to look at that broom and remember today."
The girl looked stunned and halted.
"But heir Quade this broom… i-"
"I already have a new one, so I was never planning on taking it back," said Jakob giving her a smirk.
Clara smiled and continued walking with him with a pleasant silence surrounding them.
They were just in front of the castle door when the dark blond girl stopped him.
"Before we go in, I want to say something. You are not like everyone else in our house, and you have helped me so much, so I just wanted to tell you that if you ever need aid or anything else, you know you have an ally in the house of Nott. "
Jacob gave her a smile and gave her a slight nod back.
"The gesture is a pleasant welcome, miss Nott."
"They are all waiting for you two." The new voice made both Quiddich teammates turn to the now-opened gate to see their queen standing a few meters in front of them with a look Jakob had never seen before.
"Miss Nott, am I correct? "
Clara gave her a nervous Nod sensing a slight chill in her Queens's voice.
"Heir Quade is remarkable, isn't he? You can now tell why he has been chosen by the Slytherin five to join them."
Amy walked forward, and Clara, who now was as certain as Jakob that the curly black-haired girl was not friendly, glanced nervously at Jakob and then back to her queen.
"Yes, my queen i-"
"hope you have a nice time at the party", interrupted Jakob and Clara, who got the hint and walked inside, her eyes on the castle floor as she passed Amy, who followed the blonde with her gaze.
Jacob took a step forward and stole Amy's attention.
"My Queen, would you like to take a stroll with me? I have some matter to discuss with you further away from others' prying eyes."
Amy broke her look and smiled back at Jake.
"But it's so cold, and I have no coat to keep me warm," she said and walked over to him, hooking into his arm while he put down his broom and took out his wand, casting a warming charm on them both. They gave each other a small smile before walking away on another path beside the castle wall.
As they walked, Amy started to giggle and tried to hide it with her free hand, raising it up to her mouth.
"What's so funny, Amy?" asked Jakob smiling at how cute he found her to be right now.
"Nothing," she said, waving his question away, still bearing a smile.
Jakob gave her a look and nudged his queen to make her tell him.
Amy looked back and sighed back dramatically.
"It's just that I have watched the memory of your gift many nights before going to bed, and here we are again. Just you and me. Taking a stroll, and you have a warming charm to keep me warm."
The Slytherin boy grabbed her closer to him.
"I enjoyed that moment too. And we are quite similar, you and me."
"who so heir Quade" Amy said with a curious flirting ring to her voice.
"I also have a gift I look upon before I sleep," he said, winking at her.
Amy looked at him for a moment, then pushed him against the castle wall. Jakob had no time to register what was happening before he felt her lips pressed against his hard and passionately.
Jakob kissed her back and was about to embrace her, but he regained his senses and instead broke it and looked around.
"Shit, Amy, what if someone saw us right now."
Amy looked around and shrugged.
"I don't see anyone, and I have been dying to feel you again."
Before he could say something back, she kissed him again, and The Slytherin boy, who still was a teenager with hormones greater than a usual fellow, lost it and turned them around, lifting her up against the wall while she locked her legs around him.
He held her up under her skirt, and she was grasping his hair.
"You make me go crazy, Amy," he said when they took a short break for breathing.
"You are not so bad yourself."
The evening had turned to night, and the torches had lightened up, making the place they were in a shadow point.
They started to kiss again, and Amy opened his shirt and caressed his chest with one hand while pressing his head towards her lips with her other.
They both suddenly stopped as they heard voices and saw that professor McGonagall and professor Flitwick was talking to each other In heated voices.
"I'm telling you, Minnie, I remember to have won that duel. How can you not believe me?" Said Flitwick in frustration.
"Because you bumbling baboons, that duel never happened. You were not even born when he was a duelling champion!" said the usual firm professor who was glaring at her longtime friend.
Jakob and Amy knew that McGonagall was famous for punishing students harder than other professors for doing the kinds of stuff they were doing. They stood like statues in the dark, looking over at the two arguing professors. Jakob, who was using his hands as a chair for Amy, tried his best to minimise his movements, and he got a surprised look from the girl, who slowly continued caressing his chest. They looked at each other and leaned in, starting to kiss very slowly, trying not to make any sound. But knowing that they might get caught made them both start to kiss faster, but they still tried controlling their sound.
The voices got smaller as the two professors walked to the main gate and then apparated away.
Both Amy and Jakob breathed out, and Jakob gently put her down. The Slytherins looked at each other for a few seconds before bursting out laughing.
When they had calmed down, Jakob offered his arm to Amy, and they walked back towards the castle gate.
"Amy, can I ask you something?"
Amy, who was holding him with both arms, did not answer, and Jakob took that as a yes.
"Have the Nott girl done something to aggravate you?"
Amy frowned and looked up at him.
"No, why would you think that? I barely knew of her existence before today."
Jakob nodded.
"Then why did you talk to her like that before?"
"Like how Jakob?" asked Amy looking curious and confused. Jakob observed the reaction and felt slightly uncomfortable about how she was reacting.
"I don't know, chilly ?" he said, locking his eyes forward.
"I might have taken the Queen persona a little too hard, but why do you ask? Do you find her pretty? I was told by Marcus that you had fought to let her on our team and that you even gifted your own broom to her."
Jakob felt the chilly voice returning but masked as curious.
"I fought to get her in our team because Marcus would not see reason at first, wanting to take another boy who was worse just because of the sex. And I gifted her my broom because she would have been the only one having a school broom in our team otherwise. The Gryffindors would have seen an easier target, and our best chaser would have been downed in a moment in minutes."
"All good reasons that I accept," said Amy.
Accept? Thought Jakob confused.
"But you did not give me an answer to my first question. Do you find the Nott girl pretty?"
Jakob stopped, looked at Amy neutrally, and saw her observing his eyes like she was trying to find the answer.
"I don't find her appalling, but it's hard to find a girl pretty when I have a Queen by my side who makes me feel things I never felt before just by smiling at me."
Amy smiled warmly and took a quick look around. Jakob noticed her curly black hair wave left to right before he felt a quick kiss on his lips. His queen then gestured for him to walk inside the castle with her.
They broke apart when they entered the castle and had a meter's space between them.
"You have a way with words heir Quade that I find hard to resist."
Said Amy as they walked down the stairs.
"it was not my intention, my queen, but I am happy it does." Said Jakob as they entered the dungeon.
"I trust you, heir Quade but you are still a young boy. There are snakes in the dungeon that will try to get their fangs into you, and as your queen, it's my duty to protect you from their toxic venom." Hissed Amy and Jakob looked at her with surprise. Surprised at the way she just had talked about her own. And the Slytherin boy felt slightly worried while he smiled at his queen, who smiled back at him.
The Slytherin entranced opened, and they both turned to see a party that Jakob never had seen in his common room before.
"Enjoy this evening, heir Quade. This night is yours said Amy, who walked inside. Jakob stood there for a few seconds and watched the girl he cared so much for walk inside, and for the first time, he felt something that she never had made him feel before. Fear for those close to him.
The party was legendary, and Jake, who this party was made for, had been asked to give a speech.
He stepped up on the table in front of the couches and accidentally kicked a goblet with butter beer over but did not notice it. Feeling a little tipsy from the two shots of fire whiskey he had been gifted by Marcus as a reward. He straightened up and garnered everyone's attention.
"Slytherin!" Jakob roared, and everyone cheered.
"Never in my life have I ever done something that stupid, and it was wonderful!" The whole room cheered and laughed, some even clapping their hands.
"I won't take the glory of the game as everyone in my team did their part, and we won this match together. I want to raise my cup to Malfoy and Nott for making a great first game."
Everyone clapped, and about a third raised their cups.
"But I stand with a problem," said Jakob as he sighed and shook his head in pretend sorrow. Everyone quieted down and listened to the charismatic speaker.
"I don't know if I will be able to play against Gryffindor again. Because if the punishment for ramming that idiot Gryffindor Potter is only four hours in a box, then the world will soon chant the Horns of Quade!"
The Slytherins started to chant The horns of Quade! The Hornes of Quade!
The music that had previously been muted had started to play again by the charmed instrument in the corner.
Jakob took a bow and saw that Crabbe offered a hand to help him down, which he accepted and landed on the floor.
The slightly tipsy Jakob walked to his friends that we're placed in a circle with pillows and goblets in the middle, close to the right corner of the room.
He sat down beside Pansy and Blaze.
"Great speech, Jake. Did you know you were going to have to talk beforehand?" Asked Pansy in surprise.
"No, but fire whiskey is a muse said Jakob accepting a high-five from the Zabini boy.
Draco was sitting in front of him with Theo on his side and Daphne on his other. He and Theo were whispering about something, and for a moment, Jakob wondered what but was interrupted by Daphne, who said.
"You were wonderful today, Jakob. I really enjoyed your play," Jakob noticed the warm smile she gave him that was only reserved for him and Tracey.
Jakob smiled back and tried his best not to turn around to see if his queen was watching.
"Mate can I talk to you in private?" asked Theo, and Jakob, who looked a bit surprised, rose up and followed his friend over to the dorm corridors where there were not as many people around.
Theo looked a bit nervous, and Jakob gave him a questioning look?
" mate, what is it?"
Theo grabbed a small package from his robes and gave it to Jakob.
Jakob saw that it was a black-wrapped box.
" Don't open it here," said Theo when he noticed that Jakob was about to undo the wrapping.
" It's from my father as thanks. He was surprised when Clara wrote to him about what you had done for her, and he wanted to give you a gift for the aid and opportunity you have provided to a member of house Nott. "
Jakob smiled.
" Theo, I helped her before I knew her last name. I don't need a reward for letting someone show their worth, but I am grateful and accept this gift."
Theo nodded as thanks.
" My sister has always wanted to go pro, but when she was sorted into Slytherin, both my sister and father knew that it would probably never happen. You gave her something, and I don't think you know how much you have done for my sister."
Jakob gave a slight nod and started to feel moved by Heir Nott's words.
" And me," said Theo. "You have shown everyone in our house that there is a chance to become what they truly want and…" Theo looked away, and Jakob could see his mouth slightly shaking. The youngest member of the Slytherin five put a hand on Heir Nott's shoulder. The boy turned his eyes back to Quade.
" Theo, you might have stolen my best friend from me, But Draco's best friends are my best friends, so if you ever need my aid, don't hesitate to ask, alright? I might be able to help, and I might fail, but if I see that you deserve it. I will fight for it, okay?"
Theo nodded, and Jakob pocketed the gift in his robes and threw an arm over his friend's shoulder.
" come on, mate, the party does not wait for us."
When they returned, Drack looked over and gave Theo a smile and nod. Jakob noticed it and was curious if this was what they had whispered about before.
The party continued until the sun's first rays started to appear in the sky, and Jakob had a great time. He had only talked a bit with his queen when he walked to get some more butter beer, and their conversation was short but pleasant.
Jakob thanked Morgan that it was Saturday because when he and Pansy finally got to bed, and she had made herself comfortable on his shoulder, they both fell asleep before even saying good morning.
Jakob woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and had one goal on his mind.
He quietly got up from bed to let his roommate sleep a bit longer. The Slytherin boy got ready and then took on a new set of his private clothes, knowing it wasn't a school day.
He looked at himself in the mirror, adjusted his shirt a bit, and noticed the gift protruding from his school robe on the floor.
Jakob remembered it and took a few steps to pick it up.
He unwrapped the paper and slowly lifted the black silk lid that hid his new item.
" A dagger?" Jakob took it out and observed the blood-red colour that made up the whole item.
He saw small symbols and runes carved into it, making different patterns that, in turn, created other bigger runes and symbols, and his eyebrows rose.
There were many of them, and Jakob only recognised a few symbols and runes but could not see what the dagger could be used for.
" what the hell is this?" he whispered and took the box and looked for a note or something that would give him some information about the thing, but it was empty.
The young Slytherin sighed, thinking he already had enough mysteries that needed answers and put the dagger back into the box.
When he picked up the lid, he noticed a small text shown on the inside roof that read in silver text.
Celare.
" Celare?" said Jakob like a question, and the dagger transformed into a luxurious red quill.
" Awesome," said Jakob taking up the quill and seeing that it looked and felt like a normal but expensive quill.
He took a chance, switched his old quill in his bag with this new one, and left the room with one sleeping girl and one sleeping snake.
Jakob went to his most hated professor and knocked on his door in the DaDa classroom.
The door opened, and a tired looking but still fixed Gilderoy opened it.
" Ah, Mr Quade." the professor yawned.
" What can I help you with?"
Jakob gave his charming smile.
" I'm sorry to be this early, professor. I was just reading your book, Magical me and was wondering if I could ask you some questions?"
The professor switched from sleepy to a big smile and moved aside for Jakob to come in.
"Come in, Mr quade come in," he said and hurried to drag out a chair for Jake to sit on.
" Sit, Mr Quade, would you like some tea?"
Jakob nodded and sat down, looking around as if he had found everything in this room fascinating.
" Well then, my boy," said Lockhart as he sat in front of him with the two cups of tea.
" Tell me, what do you wish to know?"
Jakob went on questioning the professor about all the heroic deeds he had done and was particular with those that had required spells that were more advanced. After an hour of this torment, Jakob took the last sip of the tea while Gilderoy finished his story about how he killed a group of vampires.
" I really hope to be like you one day…" said Jakob, with a smile, but then frowned.
Lockhart smiled back but then looked curious when he saw the frown appearing.
" What's on your mind, Mr Quade?"
Jakob pretended to think for a moment.
" Well, it's just that… there are a lot of books in the library, and to become as great and powerful as you, I would need to find something that was not available for everyone."
Lockhart straighter up a little, hearing the praise from his student once again. He really could not get enough of that.
" Ever since I read of all your heroic deeds, I wished I could get some knowledge to start my own adventure, and this might be a bit silly," said Jakob and stopped seeing that he wanted Lockart to catch the hook.
" I admit that my heroic deeds are not easily matched but what could be silly?" said the professor, interested.
" It's just that when I imagine doing a heroic deed, I always end it by carving the GLF so that people know who it was.
Lockhart frowned, confused.
" What do you mean by GLF?"
Jakob looked down.
" Gilderoy Lockhart's fan."
When Jakob looked up again, he saw that his task was done. Lockhart had a dreamy expression, imagining that people were doing those deeds in his name.
The Slytherin boy seized this opportunity to say.
" Umm, professor Lockhart, are you sure?"
" Um, what? Yes sorry. Sure of what?" asked the Gilderoy as he snapped back to reality.
" I asked you to give me a permit to the restricted section, and you said, of course. I'm so happy that my hero is not only brave but also kind."
Said Jakob getting up.
Gilderoy looked conflicted at first but seeing Jakob's fake happiness and having the image still present in his mind, he nodded and smiled.
" Of course, of course. But I don't seem to have a permit on me."
He said, feeling his pockets and looking around.
" No worries, I have one with me", smiled Jakob taking out a slip from his bag.
He handed it to Gilderoy, and when the professor was not putting it down to sign it right away, Jakob sighed.
The professor, who was almost about to read the slip, looked over to the Quade.
"It's just that I can't wait to be doing heroic things in your name, professor."
Said Jakob, and the professor smiled and signed it.
" I will do what I can for my fans, but I would appreciate it if you kept this between you and me. I usually must know what book and why that book is borrowed, but I imagine you won't choose a book that is too hard."
Lockhart chuckled as he handed Jakob the slip, who stood up in actual excitement and thanked him before leaving.
Gilderoy looked slightly surprised at the boy's quick goodbye but smiled.
" Huh, kids," he said while taking a sip.
Jakob was walking towards the library, feeling dirty but happy.
He would not usually suck up to a teacher, but when the reward was this great, he could not see another option.
He looked down at his slip and smirked.
When he walked inside the library and walked over to Madam Pinche was sitting in her usual place behind the desk.
" Good morning Madam pinche. Professor Lockhart wishes me to give you this."
He handed over the slip, and the librarian read it. Her eyes widened.
" dear Merlin, why did he give you this?"
" that is between the professor and me, with all due respect, of course," said Jakob when he saw the frown.
" Don't mind if I check it then, Mr Quade? Professors usually don't grant access to the restricted section for an unlimited time."
The charming Slytherin gestured for her to do what she wished, and the older lady took out her wand and pointed it at the paper.
" Este Signum Reale," she spoke firmly, and Lockhart's sign glowed gold for a moment before fading to its usual ink colour.
"It seems real," she said, taking the paper and putting it in her drawer with the others.
Jakob was dancing in happiness in his mind but portrayed a cool, charming smile.
" Thank you, and have a wonderful day, miss Pince."
She nodded back, having difficulty resisting his smile and giving him a small smile in return.
Jakob then turned and walked over to the doors that divided the library with the restricted section and took a breath.
He opened the door and saw the numerous books he would read during his remaining 6 years here.
But first things first, he thought and walked over to the rune books.
" I need…" he said while looking through the books.
" There you are," he stated with a smile. Picking out the book and reading the cover.
Wards to protect your home and how to create them.
He opened it and saw the different rune wards that could be used if someone tried to break in.
" I need something that is not dangerous but will be a good defence and hard to break", whispered Jakob while he read through the pages.
He stopped at one and looked at it with a smile.
" Perfect!" he spoke smiling, shutting the book and then pocketing it in his bag.
"I don't understand why you would want to ward our room? Do you think someone will break in?"
Jakob, who was currently burning the symbols into the door, turned and smiled at the slightly worried Pansy on their bed.
" No, it's just that now that I'm a part of Slytherin five, I think it might be better to be safe than sorry, that's all." He then turned his gaze to the open book he was holding with his other hand and continued to burn the rune, so they made a pattern that looked like a snowflake.
" Can you even do runes? We don't start that class until next year, and you look so confident. Have you done this before?"
Pansy asked as Jakob continued burning. This time he did not turn around but answered while burning another rune.
" I haven't, but I know the basics, and it can't be more difficult then. Rituals and we made that happen."
Jakob was done with the Runes, and Pansy stood up, walked over to him and inspected it beside him.
" It's actually kind of beautiful," said Daphne in awe at the new door.
Is it finished now? Is it working?"
Jakob chuckled.
" No, this was the easy part. Now I must have you and Saliza stand in a circle with me."
" Why?" Frowned Pansy.
" Because I need to show the ward which people will be permitted to enter, and it's only going to be us three."
Jakob pointed his wand at the open book.
" Wingardium Leviosa," he said, and the book levitated in front of him.
" Saliza, I need you to come here so that the ward recognises you." hissed Jakob to his beloved snake.
"This will be interesting. I look forward to seeing you cast this type of magic." Hissed the snake as she placed herself on his shoulders.
" Alright then," said Jakob and took a medium jar that contained powdered bones from a hippogriff and poured it down on the floor, making a circle around them all.
" Pansy, while I start chanting, I need you to stand perfectly still and don't utter a word. If you do anything, the ward might lose control and kill us all."
" What!?" said Pansy and turned towards her roommate in shock. She was about to continue when Jakob raised both hands and slowly waved his wand against the door, reading out loud from the book.
Pansy saw that small pieces of magic were released and flowed towards the runes. When they were about to hit the door, they collided with an invisible wall that rippled, and Pansy saw the wall surrounding all walls around them.
After a few minutes, Jakob was finished and turned to Pansy.
" For the first time ever, something went just right and no complications."
He smiled and poked his wand forward, hitting the invisible wall. The magic rippled once again, showing that the ward had taken effect.
Pansy looked very impressed.
" So what does this ward do then?" she asked, still standing in the circle.
" The ward is known as the rock defence," said Jakob stepping out from the circle and levitating the bone dust back into the empty bottle.
" It's not a match for a grown-up but for a student, it will take hours to take down. It will also alert me, you and Saliza if someone tries to break it."
Pansy frowned.
"That was a lot for only that."
The Slytherin boy looked a bit annoyed at his roommate.
" Well, this was my first ward, so forgive me for not giving you a ward worthy of from Gringotts. Maybe you can show me, oh great, Parkinson."
Pansy rolled her eyes.
"But there is one more thing it does", smirked Jakob back towards Pansy."
The Slytherin girl looked suspiciously at Jako. She knew this smirk meant only one thing, so she took a step back.
" What thing?" she said, watching him pocketing his wand and slowly putting down Saliza.
"It's soundproof," said Jakob and Pansy's eyes widened as she realised what was going to happen.
Jakob pounced at her and tackled her down on their bed. The wrestling, tickle match that Pansy both hated and secretly loved had begun again.
The Slytherin boy took yet another evening stroll in the empty corridors of the castle and was looking for new secrets to unlock.
He had been going over some floors the year before and was currently on the second floor, looking to see if something might be hiding there.
He walked around and felt the castle wall and took the time to enjoy the silence. He never knew that being popular would be so tiring. The Slytherins always plotting and whispering did not help him relax either.
Sometimes he wondered how the other houses had it, for example, Hufflepuff. He doubted that they had it like the Slytherins but what problems did the usual Hufflepuff face?
As he walked, he started to think about Ella. He missed her company and hoped she was okay in Ravenclaw. He felt bad not having the time to talk with her, but with everything going on, he thought it best that he saw her when things had calmed down.
His mind wandered to the bushy-haired girl, and a sad smile was visible on the boy that walked the empty halls.
He had tried once to contact her via the card he had gifted her but had not gotten a response, and while she smiled and gave him a hug when they saw each other, he also noticed the way she glanced at him when she was around the golden squad that had previously bullied her.
"Can't she see that those idiots are using her for her intellect?" he whispered with a sigh and rounded a corner. And that bloody darkness he could not use yet. He had to put that on hold, knowing that he could not find a magical resource good enough yet.
He closed his eyes, hearing only the sounds of wind that flew past the window and the flame flickering from the torches.
" Come to me… let me rip you… let me tear you…let me kill you."
" what the…"
