King of the Ring: 28/6/1998
WWF King of the Ring was live at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The six-man tag team match between Kaientai (Funaki, Men's Teioh, and Dick Togo) and the team of Taka Michinoku and The Headbangers (Mosh and Thrasher) had passed, and now it was time for the Bladewolf vs Ken Shamrock in the semi-finals of the 1998 King of the Ring tournament.
The winner of this match faces the winner of the Rock vs Dan Severn in the finals to determine the king of the Ring.
In the arena, ken Shamrock's theme hits and out comes the MMA fighter who had a serious expression on his face as he makes his way down towards the ring.
"Oh man, Shamrock's gonna have to bring all he's got if he hopes to win this one." Jerry said.
JR nodded in agreement. "I agree with you there, king. Ken Shamrock takes on the Bladewolf in the first of the two semi-finals. Whoever wins this advances to the finals to face either the Rock or Dan Severn."
"Who do you think's gonna win, JR?" Jerry asked curiously.
"I'm torn between the Rock and the Bladewolf." JR replied.
Shamrock rolls into the ring and paces around inside the ring as his theme dies down and he stares at the stage setup, waiting for the Bladewolf to make his entrance.
OOOOOOWHOOOOOO!
The Devil's Wolf plays to a loud pop from the fans and the lights dim to a mix of blood red and dark blue before fire explodes on the stage and out comes the Bladewolf to a loud pop from the fans, with the WWF Intercontinental Championship around his waist.
"And his opponent, from Death Valley, weighing 310 lbs, he is the World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Champion... THE BLADEWOLF!" tony Chimel announced before leaving the ring.
"And here is the man who has quite frankly accomplished a lot in under a year here in the WWF." JR said. "He won his first WWF Championship in his first WrestleMania in the Main Event, becoming the youngest WWF Champion at just 21 years old. He defeated the Rock to win his first Intercontinental Championship, making him the youngest Intercontinental Champion in the title's history, and now we could be seeing 1998 king of the Ring be added to that list."
"Well don't count out Ken Shamrock just yet, JR." Jerry warned. "This guy's got the talent to take on and possibly beat the Bladewolf."
Bladewolf climbs onto the ring apron and steps over the top rope, staring Shamrock down as he takes off his trench coat, followed by the Intercontinental Championship which he hands to someone at ringside as his theme dies down and the lights return to normal. The referee looks between both men before calling for the bell.
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
Bladewolf and Shamrock walk forward and go eye to eye, though the height difference caused Shamrock to look up at Bladewolf who jut stared back with coldness in his demonic eyes.
"Going eye to eye here." JR noted before Shamrock strikes with a right hand. "Shamrock hits first!"
Shamrock lands another right hands that barely fazes Bladewolf who goes for a right but Shamrock ducks as he unloads with lefts and rights like a boxer to Bladewolf's stomach and chest, forcing the masked man back a few steps until Bladewolf shoved him onto his back, but Shamrock got to his feet and ran at Bladewolf only to be met with an uppercut that echoed throughout the arena.
"Ooh!" Jerry excalimed.
"That had to hurt." JR nodded.
Bladewolf grabs Shamrock by the hair and drives his face into the turnbuckle before he starts stomping away on Shamrock until he was sitting on the bottom turnbuckle, allowing Bladewolf to place his boot onto Shamrock's head and press down, causing Shamrock to yell in pain.
"Look at how sadistic Bladewolf is!" JR said with disgust. "Just keeping pressure on Shamrock's head."
"Bladewolf has no regard for human wellbeing or life." Jerry scoffed. "The guy's not human! You can't hurt him!"
"But he can be beaten." JR pointed out.
Bladewolf whirls on the referee upon hearing the count of 4, causing the referee to back off as the Demon Wolf turns his attention back to Shamrock, picking him up by the hair and lands a quick right jab to the nose, causing Shamrock to clutch it. Bladewolf places Shamrock's head against the middle turnbuckle and walks a bit away before he whirls around and stomps his foot into Shamrock's head, sending him to the mat while clutching his head.
"That had to hurt." Jerry winced at the sight.
Bladewolf grabs Shamrock from behind and hits a German Suplex, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another.
"Good grief!" JR exclaimed. "That was like 53 German Suxplexes!"
"And Shamrock's out!" Jerry pointed out to Shamrock's motionless form.
Bladewolf walks over and kicks Shamrock onto his back before grabbing him by the throat, lifts him to his feet before lifting him up... AND PLANTS HIM WITH A CHOKESLAM! Bladewolf flips his hair back before he does the cutthroat taunt to cheers from the fans as he grabs Shamrock, lifts him into a Fireman's carry and... HITS THE FURY OF THE WOLF!
"Fury of the Wolf!" JR shouted as Bladewolf covers Shamrock. "And now the cover!"
"One!"
"Two!"
"Three! Ring the bell!" The referee called after counting.
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
The Devil's Wolf plays to cheers as Bladewolf stands. "Here is your winner... THE BLADEWOLF!" Tony Chimel announces as Bladewolf is given his Intercontinental Championship which he snatches from the referee and scares him out the ring.
"And with this victory, Bladewolf advances to the final." JR said. "Now we just need to see who he will face in the next semi-finals match."
Bladewolf leaves the ring and heads to the back.
The next semifinal featured Dan Severn against The Rock. Nation of Domination interfered in the match as Kama Mustafa and Mark Henry distracted the referee, allowing D-Lo Brown to attack Severn and nail a frog splash, helping Rock to win the match.
Next, Al Snow and Head took on Too Much (Brian Christopher and Scott Taylor), with Jerry Lawler serving as the special guest referee. Lawler cheated Snow out of the victory numerous times during the match, allowing Christopher to attach a bottle of Head & Shoulders shampoo to Head and pin it for the win.
In the next match, D-Generation X member X-Pac took on The Nation of Domination member Owen Hart. Mark Henry interfered in the match on Hart's behalf but then Vader showed up and collided with Henry. Hart had applied the Sharpshooter on X-Pac but the referee was distracted, allowing X-Pac's DX teammate Chyna to hit a DDT on Hart and X-Pac pinned him for the win.
Next, The New Age Outlaws (Billy Gunn and Road Dogg) defended the Tag Team Championship against The Midnight Express (Bodacious Bart and Bombastic Bob). Jim Cornette tried to interfere on Express' behalf by using his racket but Gunn stopped him and Chyna nailed a low blow to Cornette and then Outlaws tossed Holly head-first on the ropes for the win to retain the titles.
Next up was the King of the Ring final. The Bladewolf vs The Rock.
In the arena, the Rock's theme hits to boos and he comes walking out and making his way down the ramp towards the ring. He gets inside and paces back and fourth as he waits for the man who defeated him for the Intercontinental Championship. He had also requested that this match be No Holds Barred.
"This match is going to determine who will be the 1998 King of the Ring." JR said. "And how ironic should it be these two who have been at each other's throats lately, well the Rock has been clamouring for a rematch for Bladewolf's title."
"And he'll get it." Jerry nodded firmly.
Bladewolf climbs onto the ring apron and had just stepped over the top rope... WHEN THE NATION ATTACKS FROM BEHIND!
"Oh what the hell?!" JR threw a hand up. "The Nation of Domination is attacking the Bladewolf!"
Bladewolf threw Kama Mustafa off him and gave Mark Henry an uppercut, but was attacked from behind by D-Lo Brown who clobbered Bladewolf's back with lefts and rights until Bladewolf drives him into the steel steps hard. Bladewolf throws his coat off, followed by the Intercontinental Championship and turns around... INTO A STEEL PIPE TO THE SKULL!
"Oh!" JR excalimed as Bladewolf goes down. "The Rock just struck Bladewolf with a steel pipe and the match hasn't even begun yet!"
"The Rock's got this in the bag!" Jerry laughed. "I told you he had this! Woo! We're gonna see the King of the Ring be crowned soon enough!"
The Rock picks Bladewolf up and tosses him into the ring, Bladewolf lying in the middle of the ring with his arms spread out but his legs together. The Rock brags to the crowd as he picks up the Intercontinental Championship and shows it off like it belongs to him and as he gets into the ring, holding the title... BLADEWOLF SAT UP!
"Bladewolf just sat up!" JR exclaimed.
"Oh no!" Jerry shouted as the referee quickly calls for the bell to begin the match.
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
The Rock quickly tried blasting Bladewolf in the masked face with the title belt but Bladewolf ducked it and the Rock turned around only to be grabbed by the throat, lifted up... AND PLANTED WITH A CHOKESLAM!
"Chokeslam to the Rock!" JR exclaimed.
The Nation rushes into the ring but Bladewolf starts attacking everyone in sight, taking Mark Henry down with a big boot, knocks Kama down with a hard right to the forehead, and uppercuts D-Lo Brown before tossing him over the top rope and down to the floor. Bladewolf picks up a chair that henry had slid into the ring when coming it and he whirls around... AND SMACKS KAMA N THE SKULL WITH THE CHAIR!
"What a chair shot!" JR exclaimed.
Bladewolf whirls around again... AND SMACKS THE CHAIR INTO MARK HENRY'S BACK! The force of the chair shot sent Henry to the outside of the ring as Bladewolf turns his attention to the Rock who was stumbling to his feet and the former Intercontinental Champion turns around... INTO A CHAIR SHOT TO THE SKULL! THE ROCK HAS BEEN BUSTED OPEN BY THAT CHAIR SHOT!
Bladewolf drops the chair, grabs the Rock and lifts him upside down into a familiar position over the chair... AND HITS A TOMBSTONE PILEDRIVER ON THE CHAIR! HE HOOKS THE LEG! ONE! TWO! THREE! BLADEWOLF WINS THE MATCH!
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
The Devil's Wolf plays as Bladewolf gets to his feet and flips his hair back. "Here is your winner and now crowned the 1998 King of the Ring... THE BLADEWOLF!" Tony Chimel announces as Bladewolf picks up his Intercontinental Championship.
Bladewolf raises his arms and throws them down, causing lightning to hit the turnbuckles which makes fire explode from them as the lights dim to the sinister blood red and dark blue as the Bladewolf leaves the ring, now officially the 1998 King of the Ring...
