Sinking Fast-Ch 23
By the time the jet landed Penelope was already home and asleep so Derek didn't wake her up, he knew that this last case had been hard on her so he stripped down to his boxers and slid in behind her. He then gently kissed the side of her neck and whispered, "I love you" and then wrapped his arm around her and snuggled close and soon joined his girl in sleep.
The next morning when Derek woke up he reached over and found the bed empty and cold, he threw the covers back and pulled his pants on and then made his way downstairs in search of Penelope. When he got downstairs he heard her laughing outside on the back porch so he walked to the door to see his mom and sisters along with his beautiful baby girl all sitting and talking.
Derek opened the door and stepped outside, Penelope looked up and smiled as she said, "good morning hotstuff", he walked over and kissed her gently on the lips and said, "good morning to you goddess". Fran said, "good morning honey", Derek kissed his mom on the cheek and said, "morning ma, have you and the trouble makers been keeping my girl company this morning"?, Fran laughed and said, "yes we have".
Penelope said, "why didn't you wake me up when you got home last night"?, Derek said, "it was late and you were sleeping so peacefully and I didn't have the heart to bother you". Sarah said, "Penelope is going to go out with me and Desi today and we are going to meet up with JJ and Emily a little later for an earlyi lunch" and Derek said, "okay, sounds like you ladies are going to have a busy day".
Penelope said, "I love shopping and going out with Sarah and Desi sounds like a lot of fun", Fran said, "honey my girls will shop you under the table" and everybody laughed as Desi and Sarah nodded their heads yes in agreement. Fran said, "sooooo baby boy, are you glad to be home"?, Derek said, "ohhh yes momma, you have no idea how glad I am to be here, this last case was a hard one and if it wasn't for our oracle we never would have caught that freak"
Fran looked at Penelope and said, "from what Dave tells me you are very good at what you do", Penelope said, "I love working on the computer and the internet is an amazing thing and every time I get on it I learn more and more". Desi glanced down at her watch and said, "we better be heading out soon" and Penelope jumped up and said, "I just need about 15 minutes to get changed girlies" and Desi and Sarah grinned as they watched her run inside.
When they were sure that she was out of earshot Derek said, "everything is set, right" and the Morgan women all nodded their heads yes and Desi said, "don't worry big brother everything will go down just as it's suppose to". Sarah said, "don't worry we will have her at the designated place at the right time and then we will all wait to do our parts" and Derek sighed as he plopped down beside his mom and smiled.
Fran said, "I've never seen you this happy son" and Derek said, "that's because I've never been this happy before ma" and Desi said, "being in love looks good on you Derek", he sighed happily and said, "I can't imagine my life without her in it". Fran said, "something tells me that you aren't going to have to worry about that" and the conversations stopped when they heard Penelope walking toward the door.
Derek stood up and kissed her gently on the lips and said, "love you, have fun", she winked at him and said, "love you too, catch ya later my love", Derek said, "that you will goddess, that you will". Derek and his mom stood there watching as Penelope, Sarah and Desi turned around and headed inside, they knew that that coast was clear when they heard the door shut, Derek looked at his mom and said, "do you have it"? Fran said, "of course I do" as she handed him a small black box.
He opened the box and smiled, Fran said, "your grandma would love Penelope and I know that she would want you to have this ring", Derek couldn't help but smile as he looked down at the beautiful engagement ring that was glistening in his hand. Fran said, "that has been passed down for the past two generations and you make the third generation", Derek grinned and said, "I love her so much ma, what if she doesn't want to marry me, what if she says no that she doe" and he stopped talking and grabbed the back of his head as his mother gently slapped it
Fran said, "Derek Michael Morgan you know better than that, she isn't going to say no, she loves you as much as you love her, now let's get things ready because the time is quickly passing". Derek nodded his head yes in agreement as he followed his mom back inside so they could get started on another part of the plan.
