Rosie and Dave were in the car driving the couple hours from where Jason Gideon lived. They had just went and visited him. Rosie meeting him for the first time. It was a nice visit, Jason teaching her how to beat Spencer at chess.
"You going to tell Spencer that he taught you how to beat him at chess?" Dave asked
Rosie laughed. "Why would I do that? Better for me just to beat him and watch the shock on his face."
Dave laughed as well. "Make sure I'm there to see that."
"Deal." Rosie said
They drove a bit before Dave started up the conversation again.
"You have a date this coming weekend?" He asked
"For valentine's day yes. We are going for dinner and than to the drive in." Rosie said
Dave nodded "Sounds fun."
"Do you have a date?" Rosie asked
"Who would I have a date with?" Dave asked
"Whomever you have been talking to late at night." Rosie said
Dave raised an eyebrow "Have you been eavesdropping?"
"Yes. Now who is she?" Rosie said with a smirk
"Spies don't get told anything." Dave said
"Oh, come on!" Rosie said
"You will know if I am dating someone when I'm ready to tell you." Dave said
"And if I said that to you?" Rosie asked
"You are a minor and my responsibility. When you are an adult whom you date is your business. I would like to be kept in the loop when that time comes but that's when you're an adult. Until than I get to know. You don't get to know about whom I may be dating until I think it is necessary for you to know." Dave said
Rosie mumbled
"You can try but you wont figure it out." He said letting her know he knew what she said
Rosie shook her head
"I cant even know her name?" Rosie asked
"Nope." Dave said
"Well, are you taking her out on Valentine's day?" She asked
"I do not have a date on Valentine's." He said
Rosie sighed. "Well maybe you should."
"Excuse me?" He asked
"I just mean you aren't working you spend all your time taking care of me. And you wont let me be alone for more than half an hour so take advantage of the fact that I wont be home and invite her over." Rosie said
"I am not taking dating advice from my fifteen-year-old daughter." Dave said
"Well, when your fifteen-year-old is going on more dates than you maybe you should." Rosie said with a smirk
"This conversation is done." Dave said
Rosie smirked and took out her phone. She texted the one person who she knew would be able to convince her dad to make this date. 'Hey uncle Aaron. My dad has a potential woman who he could ask out for valentine's day, and he wont. I don't know who she is just that they have been having phone conversations late at night. I figure if anyone can convince him it would be you.' She pressed send
"Who are you texting?" Dave asked
Rosie smirked "Uncle Aaron."
"Oh. What about?" Dave asked
"You'll hear soon enough." She said
"Like I did about you going to him about the case involving the little girl?" Dave asked
"Oh. Didn't know he had actually told you that." Rosie said
"He did. I'm not upset about it. I get you want answers. We all do." Dave said
Rosie nodded.
"Is that what you were texting him about?" Dave asked
"No." Rosie said
His phone went off with a text.
"Can you see who that is?" Dave asked her
Rosie looked and smirked. "Uncle Aaron."
"Rosie. What did you do?" Dave asked
Rosie snickered.
Dave shook his head. "You know I could ground you from going anywhere this weekend."
"You could. But I know you wont for this." Rosie said
Dave pulled into a starbucks and started through the drive through before looking at his phone.
'Remember when you made sure that we got back for me to have my first date with Beth. I think I might need to return the favor. Who is she?' Aaron had texted him
Dave shook his head and sent back 'There is no woman Aaron.'
He ordered drinks for him and Rosie before going to the window to pay and get them handing Rosie her drink. "This is your only warning. Stay out of my love life. Or there will be consequences." Dave told her
Rosie took a breath and nodded. "I just wanted to help…" she said softly
Dave sighed. "I appreciate that but its not something you need to worry about. I promise that if someone significant comes into my life you will know when the time is right." He said
"You worried about me getting attached to someone and than you and her not working out?" Rosie asked
"That's part of it yes." Dave said
"Dad. I lost everyone I knew. Everyone. Than I lost Caroline. I have lost several friends this year. And I'm okay." Rosie said
"Your eating disorder was triggered this year. You call that okay?" Dave asked
"That wasn't because of losing people. That's because of my brain being stupid." Rosie said
Dave nodded. "Okay. But yes you have had enough loss I don't need to put you in a situation for it to happen again if it can be avoided."
Rosie nodded "Fine. I'll stay out of it." She said sipping her drink.
Dave looked at his phone
'Than who have you been talking to late at night on the phone?' Aaron asked.
Dave didn't respond just went back to driving and drove the rest of the way home.
