Rosie pulled on a pair of blue jeans and a long sleeve tee. It was starting to warm up and it was the first day of the year that she didn't need to wear a thick coat. She grabbed a hoodie as well though. She went into her bathroom and put her hair up into a high bun and applied a little make up. Before grabbing a mini backpack to use as her purse. Putting her wallet and phone in it before going downstairs.
"You ready?" Dave asked her. They were going to the arcade. Dave had met Hunter's kids about a week ago and it had gone well. They both decided that it was time for the kids to all meet.
"Yes." Rosie said with a smile.
The two of them left and headed for the arcade. When they got there. Hunter and his girls were already there.
Introduction were made.
"Rosie these are my girls. Hayley, Callie, Maddison, Mackenzie, Scarlet, and Kara." Hunter said
"And this is Rosie." Dave said
Rosie repeated all their names to engrain them in her brain.
Everyone said hello and went and started to play in the arcade.
Dave and Hunter kept an eye on things but ultimately let them play and get to know each other.
Rosie played DDR with Callie. Callie winning. "You're really good." Rosie said
"She dances daily of course she's good." Hayley said
"Oh cool. Do you do some sort of extra curricular?" Rosie asked
"Boxing." Hayley said "But don't bother trying to get to know us. We wont be around for long." She snarked at Rosie.
Rosie brows furrowed. She was confused.
"Hayley!" Callie said.
"What? You know I'm right. How many people have we met that in a weeks time were suddenly gone?" Hayley asked her sister
"Yeah. With mom maybe. But not with dad. This is the first time we are meeting his partner's kid." Callie said
"Because its his first boyfriend since the divorce." Hayley said
Rosie said nothing she just took a breath. She went to where the twins Maddison and Mackenzie were playing table hockey.
"Can I play the winner?" Rosie asked them with a smile
They both agreed and Rosie watched them till Maddison lost. She handed Rosie the disc with a smile.
Rosie played Mackenzie who was really good. "You're good." Rosie said
"Thank you." Mackenzie said with a smile
"Do you play any sport or part of any club?" Rosie asked
"Tennis." Mackenzie said.
"I swim." Maddison said
"Very nice!" Rosie said
"What about you?" Maddison asked
"I'm part of the photography club at my school." Rosie said
"Ooh. That so cool!" Mackenzie said
"Its a lot of fun." Rosie said
"How old are you?" Mackenzie asked
"Fifteen." Rosie said
Maddison and Mackenzie looked at each other.
"Is that bad?" Rosie asked with a smile
"No!" They both said
"Okay." Rosie said not pushing it. They kept playing and Mackenzie won.
"Good job!" Rosie said.
She felt a tug on her pant leg, and she looked down to see little Kara. "Help?" the little girl asked
Rosie smiled. "Sure. With what?"
The little girl took her hand and pulled her to a claw machine.
'Urple bear." Kara said pointing to the machine.
Rosie scrunched up her face. "I'll try. But cant promise I will get it." She told the two-year-old. She took a couple tokens out of her jeans pocket and put them in the machine and started to play. She tried several times and used several tokens to get the purple bear that the little girl wanted. She was down to her last token and took a breath and put it in the machine. She had moved the bear with her few games before so it was in a pretty easy place to get at this point but doesn't mean the machine would give it up that easy. Rosie moved the dongle till it was right over it and pressed the button and the claw went down and grabbed it right in the middle and picked it up and carried it to the drop spot and dropped it.
"YAY!" The little girl screamed. Rosie smiled and took it out of the machine and gave it to the little girl.
The little girl hugged the bear than hugged Rosie's leg.
Rosie smiled and ruffled her hair.
The little girl ran off with her bear to show her papa and Dave.
Hayley had watched the whole thing and came over to her. "Don't think you can win her over that easily." Her snarkyness still evident.
Rosie took a breath. "I'm not trying to win anyone over. I'm just being nice."
"You think I'm stupid?" Hayley asked talking quietly.
"Not at all. I think you're being a jerk though, not sure why." Rosie said
Hayley smirked and went off to the two parents. Sad look on her face.
"What's wrong?" Hunter asked his daughter
"Rosie…Called me a jerk." Hayley said sadly.
Dave got up and went over to Rosie.
Rosie had seen Hayley go over and than the look on her dad's face change to unimpressed. She groaned internally. 'what had Hayley said happened?' she wondered
"What happened?" Dave asked
"What does she say happened?" Rosie asked
"Rosie." Dave said
"Clearly she has a problem with me. Not sure why exactly. But she had been snarky with me since the moment we have been not around you or Hunter. After I won the bear for Kara she came over and accused me of trying to win Kara over. I told her that wasn't what I was doing that I was just being nice. Hayley asked me if I though she was stupid. Which I said no not at all too but that she was being a jerk." Rosie said
Dave took a breath and nodded. Rosie wasn't lying.
"Okay. I realize she wasn't being very nice but watch what you say." Dave said
Rosie nodded. "Okay. I'll apologise."
Dave smiled at her. "That's my girl."
Dave went back to Hunter and Hayley. "Why don't you go talk to her?" he suggested
Hayley went back over to Rosie.
"Look. I don't know what your problem is with me. But I'm not trying to win anyone over. I'm just being myself. I'm sorry I said you were a jerk." Rosie said
Hayley smirked. "See. I run this. I got your dad to make you apologize. You will not take my family from me."
"He didn't make me do anything." Rosie said. "And I'm not trying to take anything from you."
"Bullshit." Hayley said before walking away.
Dave looked at Hunter.
"What did Rosie say happened?" Hunter asked
"Well. She didn't deny saying Hayley was being a jerk, but that Hayley was…" Dave said
"Poking at her till she did? And therefore, being a jerk." Hunter asked
"Yes. And I know Rosie wasn't lying." Dave said
Hunter nodded. "I knew there would be tension. Time hopefully will fix that."
Dave nodded.
"Rosie offered to apologize without me asking her too." Dave told him
Hunter nodded. "She's a good kid."
"You've got good kids too." Dave told him with a smile.
Hunter nodded. "Hayley just is scared. The divorce was really hard on her. I know she wants me and her mom back together."
"Ooh. Yeah. That's pretty normal for kids in divorce." Dave said
"Her mom and I have both talked to her about it told her that we both still care for each other but that we weren't happy anymore together because neither of us were getting what we needed out of the marriage and relationship." Hunter said
Dave nodded.
"Dave. I know she has run three of her mothers boyfriends away. Its why she hasn't met any of the people I have dated till now. Please give it a chance. I will make sure Hayley knows she cant do that anymore but…" Hunter said
"I'm not going anywhere but I also cant let my daughter be bullied…" Dave said
"No. I get that. Make sure that Rosie tells you or I when Hayley is giving her a hard time and I will handle it. Promise." Hunter said
"Okay." Dave said
Hunter went over to Hayley and pulled her away from the group to a quiet part of the arcade.
"I get it. You don't want me to be with someone else because any in your mind any hope of your mom and I getting back together will be gone. But Hayley. Your mother and I will never be back together. We would be single forever before we are back together. We both love you and all your sisters very much but neither of us will ever be happy together any longer. So, you can scare away everyone we date and it wont change that fact." Hunter told her
"I know that dad. I'm not trying to scare anyone away." Hayley said
"Than why have you been giving Rosie a hard time?" Hunter asked
"Wow. So, you believe some lies she tells about me?" Hayley said
"Hayley. I know what you did to the daughter of the last guy your mom dated. And I know you are doing the same to Rosie. Cut the crap." Hunter said
"Wow. Nice to know you believe lies about your own daughter." Hayley said before walking away from her dad.
Hunter sighed. He shook his head and went back to Dave.
"Went well?" Dave asked
"Not really." Hunter said, "I'll try talking to her again about it later."
Dave nodded. Soon after they collected all their kids, and they all went to get food.
They got to the restaurant, and all sat at a table.
They all got their food and ate.
At one point during the meal. Scarlet told her Papa she needed to use the bathroom.
"Hayley can you take your sister please." Hunter asked his daughter
"No. She can go herself." Hayley said with snark
"I can take her." Rosie offered.
"You okay with that Scarlet?" Hunter asked
Scarlett nodded. "yes."
Rosie got up and went with Scarlet.
Hayley was pissed.
"Problem Hayley?" Hunter asked
"Nope." Hayley said voice saying otherwise
"Good. Because Rosie just made your life easier didn't she?" Hunter asked
Hayley took a breath but said nothing.
Rosie and Scarlet came back a few minutes later smiling.
They all finished eating and Hunter was quicker to pull out his card to pay for everyone. Hayley and Rosie both looked away to hide their smirks.
"Something funny girls?" Dave asked
"No." They both said quickly before looking at each other.
They all went outside and to their cars.
Dave and Rosie started the drive silently.
"I know you and Hayley had some tension. But what about with the others?" Dave asked
"The others were all very nice and we got along." Rosie said
Dave nodded. "I'm proud of you for stepping up with Scarlet."
Rosie shrugged. "Hayley is probably pissed because she got in trouble because of me. Least I could do."
"What makes you think she got in trouble?" Dave asked
"I saw her being pulled from the group by Hunter and well he and you share a similar look when you aren't happy sooo. I guessed." Rosie said
Dave let out a sigh and nodded. "She got in trouble because of the way she treated you. And letting you know if she gives you and issues in the future tell me. Or Hunter and it will be handled."
"I don't need you to do that. I know why you want to. But telling on her every time she makes a comment isn't going to help our relationship. I can handle it." Rosie said
"Rosie, I don't want you being bullied." Dave said
"She feels threatened. Her place in her family is the oldest. And if things go the way I see and I'm guessing Hayley sees them going than well I am older than her. No. Obviously I'm not going to try and take her role away from her but doesn't mean that's not what she thinks is going to happen." Rosie said
Dave took a breath. "Where do you see this going?"
"Marriage." Rosie said
"Really?" Dave asked
"You don't?" Rosie asked
"I didn't say that." Dave said "I do. But I didn't know you did."
"Well. I have never seen you this happy." Rosie told him
"Really?" Dave asked
Rosie nodded and smiled. "I'm really happy for you."
Dave smiled.
"So, I will work on things with Hayley. Please let me try." Rosie said
Dave took a breath. "Okay. I'll let Hunter know that's what's going on. But promise me if it gets to be to much you tell me."
"Okay. Promise." Rosie said
Dave pulled in at home and they both went inside.
