Chapter 7

As it turns out Jasper wasn't going to be telling her the secret until the following Monday. Alice and Rosalie had turned up at the house claiming they needed Jasper back home. Alice had looked apologetic the entire time whereas Rosalie looked stone faced and little mad. Jasper had told Lily he was sorry and they would talk soon before leaving to admonish his sister and explain to her why he had to tell her. Rosalie still didn't agree with it and told her brother he should think of the family before some random girl. Alice had stood there awkwardly as they argued the entire time.

Monday rolled around and after getting Emmett to agree to keep his woman out of his business (and Lily's house) Jasper made his way over there. Lily seemed to be in a oddly good mood when he arrived, not that he was complaining, he liked the rare moments of bliss he felt compared to her previous feelings. It was like seeing a ray of light in an otherwise constantly dark world.

Settling down on the couch together the duo seemed to stare at each other in nervous contemplation. Clearing his throat Jasper ran a hand through his hair in a rare moment of nervousness. Lily wasn't used to see the blond so out of sorts. He was usually standoffish at times which she was assuming was just his inability to talk to strangers, but she had never truly seen him nervous like this. It was oddly endearing.

"There isn't any easy way to say this, so I am just going to come out with it." He told her. Taking a deep unnecessary breath Jasper turned to face her properly. Her blue eyes were wide with anticipation for the reveal of what he had to say, he thought they looked beautiful. He always had. They weren't a normal light blue or with the hint of grey but a rare deep blue like a midnight sky. In the dark they looked almost black.

"It's okay." Lily comforted, but it seemed she was talking more to herself knowing she was going to be talking after.

"I'm a vampire." Jasper said bluntly. The blond internally cringed at the loud silence that seemed to be echoing around the duo. "I know that might seem strange-"

"Strange?" Lily interrupted in an eerily calm voice. Jasper frowned. "So you're a blood sucking vampire huh?"

"Yes." he replied softly. He had been prepared for either two reactions - disbelief or fear. She had chosen the latter, or so he had thought. It was disbelief but it soon escalated into anger. It was an emotion he wasn't expecting to feel emanating from the girl.

"Wow, right, okay." Lily scoffed, shuffling to the end of the couch and roughly grabbing her hair for a brief moment before she jumped to stand. Whirling around to face her friend Lily ground her teeth. "Is this some kind of joke? Because I didn't hear the punchline."

"It's not a joke, Lily."

"Of course it's not!" she snapped, staring down at him with severe dislike. "You want me to tell you all about my past and all you tell me is that you're a vampire. You're secret is you're delusional and I'm supposed to accept that as a reasonable 'secret' so you can hear mine?"

"I'm not delusional-"

"You think you're a fucking vampire!" Lily once again interrupted. At this point her voice had taken on a slightly hysterical tone whilst she started to pace. Jasper stood slowly before making his way over to the stressed girl in front of him. Gently grabbing her arm in an attempt to stop her from the mad pacing, Jasper was about speak when she whirled around and slapped his hand only to gasp from the pain she felt when her palm hit his skin.

"I'm sorry." Jasper winced apologetically as he watched her bring her pained hand to her chest like a child hugging a teddy bear.

"Don't fucking touch me!" she screamed, backing up when he reached out for her. Jasper cringed as the overwhelming sense of betrayal oozed from within her. She wasn't supposed to react like this, he had only planned for what to do for the disbelief and fear. Not this.

"Lily please!" he begged. "I can prove it to you."

"Oh yeah, what are you going to do? Bite me?" she snarked, causing him to recoil.

"No, I would never do that to you." he implored. Jasper was trying to keep his distance but he felt a sincere need to hold her and reassure her everything was going to be alright. He needed to get rid of that look of hurt upon her face.

"Just get out." Lily breathed as tears welled up in her eyes. Jasper shook his head. "Get out!"

"Let me explain!"

"I said get out!" She yelled, the words vibrating throughout the room. Neither said a word after, just staring at each other like a Mexican standoff. Heaving, the vampire gave in to her request. Walking to the door he looked back to the brunette who seemed to be waiting until he left before curling into herself and breaking down.

Guilt gnawed at his very soul the entire run home. He knew she was a mentally unstable, or at least emotionally unstable, young woman and he didn't want to think about what this would do to her. Lily clearly didn't trust easily, she didn't know how to react with people showing she didn't spend a lot of time with others. She was a lonely girl who had some serious problems and didn't deal with stress in a healthy manner. Now in the girls mind he had betrayed her trust with some insane story just to hear hers. The weight of how much she had come to trust him tore at Jasper like he could physically feel it upon his skin.

He just hoped this worked out in the end otherwise he may have just sent Lily into very bad place.

The next couple of days passed slowly for said girl. Her mind seemed blank. Whilst she didn't think she could judge anyone for not having their life together (and being a little crazy) it was the lack of subtly and trying on Jasper part that hurt. He had tried manipulating her into telling him about her past by giving her the worst story ever.

Maybe he thought that the trust that she had developed for him was usable, so much so he didn't need to try too hard and she would just believe whatever it is he had to say. She wasn't impressed, and she was incredibly hurt. She felt stupid for trusting him, for letting herself get used once again.

Lily had been going on autopilot. Just going through the motions of the day whether she was at home or at work. Maria had seemed worried but she had managed to wave the woman off.

Munching very slowly on some popcorn Lily stared at the TV that was playing some random movie when her phone started ringing. Looking at the object warily, she checked the caller ID feeling only marginally better seeing it was Alice and not Jasper. Debating for only a moment she decided to answer.

"Hello."

"Lily, hi." Alice greeted. She didn't sound like herself. The raven haired girl usually sounded peppy and hyper but now her voice seemed muted and cautious. "How are you feeling?"

"Fine." she lied.

"Really?" Alice replied sceptically. "I talked to Jasper and he's really worried. You haven't returned any of his texts or calls."

"I wonder why." Lily laughed without humor. "Your brother is crazy and a terrible liar may I add."

"If you just let him explain himself."

"What is there to explain, Alice? I trusted him, I was ready to open up to him and he says that to me? What the hell!" Lily ranted, shaking his head. For the next few minutes Alice tried to persuade her to speak to her brother, though her reasonings for doing so were falling on deaf ears. Eventually Alice gave up and promised Lily to call her if she needed her.

Throwing the phone down beside her, Lily burrowed her head into her arms feeling overwhelmed. Part of her did want to speak to Jasper. It had only been two days but she missed him, but she couldn't bring herself to. She just couldn't.

Friday rolled around and Lily found herself back in the hospital with Carlisle Cullen. He wanted to do another check up to see if anything had improved. He had also talked to her about the counselling sessions, attempting to get her to agree to take part in it.

Lily didn't know where the sudden spike of anger came from, it seemed to appear out of no where. She sat there grinding her teeth, trying to keep the anger inside of her.

"Maybe it's not me that needs the help. Maybe you should think about getting Jasper some because that guy clearly has some screws loose." Lily snapped, grabbing her bag before rushing out of the office. She didn't stop running until she reached her home. Curling into a ball under her duvet Lily felt her body start to shake as tears rolled from her eyes.

Guilt painfully clawed at her as she replayed the scene with Carlisle back in her mind over and over unwillingly on repeat. God, she was a horrible human being. This man was only trying to help her and she starts insulting his son. Groaning, Lily didn't move at all as she cried herself into a restless sleep.

Sunday, the day of rest. Or was it? Because Lily felt mentally and physically exhausted. This had been the worst week since moving to Forks, Washington. She had insulted one of the kindest men she had ever met when all he was trying to do was help her. The first two friends she had made since being a child she had pushed away. Alice hadn't spoken to her since Wednesday (since their call) probably upset she was ignoring and being rude to her brother. And she hadn't spoke to Jasper since he left her house but that was her fault.

She had literally screamed for him to get out and then avoided all contact with him, but what was she supposed to do when he was claiming such crazy notions about himself. Vampires!

Huffing to herself, and once again trying not to start crying, Lily jumped at the sudden knocking at her front door. Almost as though she was in a horror movie, Lily slowly made her way to the door only to start once more when her name was called. Sighing, she debated what to do.

"I could very easily break down your front door, Lily!" Jasper threatened. Breathing heavily she grabbed the handle of the door, pausing for just a second before unlocking and opening the door ajar.

"What do you want?" she demanded, though her voice didn't really allow her to sound intimidating or stern.

"To prove to you I'm not deluded, or making up lies." he said forcibly. His topaz eyes met her blue ones with such determination it left her breathless. Part of her wanted him to leave but at the same time, she wanted to let him in.

"And how do you plan to do that?"

"Like this." he stated, pushing his way into her home leaving her stammering at his behaviour. She had never seen Jasper act quite so rude or dominant before and she wasn't sure how to react. He seemed more in control of himself, more confident, than she had witnessed in his behaviour in any previous time she had spent in his company. It was almost like he was a completely different person.

Jasper stared at her for a moment before picking up her settee with one hand with little effort. "Strength." Then within a split second he was stood right in front of her before she had time to blink, causing her to squeak in shock. "Speed."

"Okay, wait!" Lily said loudly, hands out in front of her in a defensive manner. She had a weird feeling erupting from her very core towards the blond that she didn't like at all. It was an emotion she had never felt before with him - fear. There was something in his demeanor, his stance, his look that made her want to flee.

"You didn't believe me with words, because that's not who you are. You're the type of person who needs proof for everything before you can believe them." Jasper explained, but even the way he was speaking, the tone of his voice, was sending off alarm bells inside her head. She didn't feel safe at all.

Despite the fact Jasper had claimed he was going to continue proving to her he was apparently a so called vampire, he did nothing but stand there. Lily suddenly got the impression he was uncomfortable. He suddenly had his hands clenched before squeezing his eyes shut and he also didn't seem to be breathing at all.

Lily's heart was still beating wildly inside her chest. "Jasper?" she whispered. He didn't move. She repeated his name once again causing him to shake his head.

"I apologise. I didn't mean to frighten you." He said in a strained voice. "Sometimes I lose control of myself. I just didn't want you to hate me anymore and knew I had to make you believe what I told you to do that."

"I don't hate you." Lily replied quietly. "But how did you expect me to believe you when you claim to be a mythical creature?"

"Do you believe me now?" He asked, his voice still tight. Lily hesitated before slowly nodding her head. She knew there was more he clearly had to explain about this new revelation but he didn't need to try anything else for her to believe him. Nobody can be that strong or fast and no normal human could instill that deep a fear into someone the way Jasper had just done to her.

It wasn't a normal fear, and she had felt it plenty growing up. It was a cold and completely indescribable fear. Looking back at the tall boy standing at the other end of the room they locked eyes once more, and what Lily saw made her freeze.

His eyes were now black.
