This story was planned Concepted, outlined and written prior to the announcement of Kingdom Hearts IV as such it must be treated as an AU also of note everything dealing with Kairi in the Manga adaptation going forward is canon to this as is the Child of Destiny prophecy so yeah I might be cherry picking going forward.

Beneath the Thorns

"I want to go everywhere and meet everyone!" The young boy said bouncing up and down. He ran around his parents as they waited for the Gummi Ship.

"I have a lot of friends' buddy it'll take a while." Sora chuckled watching his son's energy.

"Where are we going first?!" Kiro asked, not paying attention to the small warning.

Sora picked up Kiro who happily wriggled in his arms. "Pride Lands and we'll change into Lions when we get there to fit in with everyone else."

"WOOOOOWWWWW!" Kiro shouted his eyes shining in excitement. "Then where, Then Where?!" he chirped excitedly.

"I'll figure it out buddy, relax, there's other things we have to do in between." Sora said.

"Awwww," Kiro groaned.

Kiro groaned when he woke up he found himself in a barely lit cave sitting up and rubbing his head casting cure he could see Zelda moving about in the bright soothing green light he had just cast they had rushed over to him.

"Kiro you okay?" Raian asked.

"Yeah, nothing healing magic can't fix," Kiro sighed hotly and punched the ground. "I'm so stupid! Why did I not stop him!? Why didn't I try to counter the spell?! Why couldn't I fight better against a lazy ass like him! Stupid!" Kiro snarled to himself as Zelda watched.

It made her think about back when she was trying so hard to unlock her powers. She berated herself for being born the way she was. Too scientific, no dull and ordinary to unlock such great Power, unworthy…. "Kiro," she said kneeling close to him. "You did all you could, and there's only so much one can do. But never forget that you have value and potential we all do. And we deserve a chance."

"Thank you," Kiro said feeling a bit better. He stood up using his Keyblade he cast a light spell that shone brightly illuminating the area as they looked around. "Where are we?"

"We won't know until we move forward." Zelda replied simply. And with that they did Kiro shone as brightly as he could to ensure a safe passage if Heartless were to appear now they'd be in trouble.

As they did the unsteady cliff path had suddenly given way to more constructed roads. Zelda had immediately constructed a torch and ran past Kiro. "You're Majesty! Hold on!" Kiro shouted running after her.

"This is amazing Kiro, they're all ruins, do you know what this means?" She asked excitedly beaming like a little kid on Christmas.

"Uhhh maybe there was a civilization before Hyrule?" Kiro asked the only thing popping into his head at that moment. He noticed the images on the wall depicting various things one looked like Zelda the one looked like a long necked God he guessed with large feathered ears.

"Yes, one farther back then even Demise and the Curse!" she said with a squeak in her voice grinning. "I need to come back down here later with Link! And uncover the mystery of these ruins!"

"Uhh, your Highness? Not to be a kill joy but what if something comes up?" Kiro asked.

"The Shekiah slate will alert us," she replied a bit flippantly clearly immersed in what secrets these underground ruins could hold. "Oh here's something, a prophecy?"

"What does it say?" Kiro asked as Zelda quickly scanned it. "It's predicting, me and Link in a way. Darkness will be defeated by light in the sky when the Goddess is chained to the Earth, but in his rage, the King of demons shall curse the spirit of this light and the Blood of the Goddess…." Zelda read. "She got a bit nervous, I am the last in that Blood line…" she said sheepishly.

Kiro sighed a bit hotly she wasn't going to wait six more years for him anyway especially when the age gap was not gonna go away so he had conceded at that moment. "Well….what about Link?" Zelda turned a bright red and Kiro felt his heart sink a little. She clearly had feelings for him.

"Uhhh," she stuttered a bit. "I will….think about it! Let's move on shall we!" she said rushing ahead with Kiro jogging a little to keep up. After a little bit the two had gotten lost, Kiro huffed looking around.

"Where are we it's impossible to tell where to go when I can't see four feet in front, of my face?" He sighed to himself cursing Corrum.

"Kiro…." Said his mother's voice he gasped he looked up he could've sworn he saw her and took off after her.

"Kiro? Kiro wait!" Zelda called running after him.

"Any tunnels nearby we need to find one now!" Riku barked worried for Kiro as Link was already racking his mind for any he might've seen in the area. Raian sighed trying to wonder what he could do as he leaned his head back in slight frustration. But when he put it back again he saw a large heavy built man like creature with a white well grown beard with various darker tattoos on his bedrock colored skin various belts and a large chain around his torso along with a bright blue sash the same color as Link's shirt.

"Hey can you help us!" Raian asked the person was listening but to everyone else Raian was talking to the air.

"Has he cracked?" Zidane asked quizzically raising an eyebrow.

"Raian who are you talking too?" Riku asked.

"There's a big rock guy with a sash the same color as Link's shirt and a really big beard."

"Daruk…" Link said walking forward.

"See Link sees him what about the rest of you!?" Raian asked.

"We don't see anyone…"Zidane muttered.

"I think I see him too." Amei replied. "But how come the rest of you can't."

"Because Daruk died over a hundred years ago," Link said as Daruk began to lead them. "I've only been able to see him and the other guardians of Hyrule because of our connection, but what about the two of you.

"Well, I don't know about Raian but I could always see dead people…." Amei sheepishly admitted.

"Spooky…." Raian muttered. "That makes me feel better though I'm not the only one."

"You've had this ability too?" Riku asked Raian nodded. "I won't say anything until you do. It might be simply to do with magic ability." He suggested.

"I just didn't want to be rejected," Raian admitted.

"None of us would do that not even Takeshi." Riku joked. There was a sneeze off in the distance that sounded like him. They stared at the sky for a minute.

"Come on little guys." Daruk called as they turned to the Ghost and began to follow him. Eventually he lead them to a large tunnel.

"Thank you Daruk!" Link said happily.

"No problem little guy!" Daruk replied. Nanaki rushed ahead, placing his nose close to the ground and sniffing.

"I've got a scent." He said.

"Excellent," Zidane said grinning as they began to make their way further down. Riku, Amei and Raian used their Keyblades to light up the coming darkness as they got deeper underground.

"So how is Daruk dead but you're not if you knew each other?" Zidane asked.

"I was actually born, over one hundred years ago. Back then the Kingdom of Hyrule was preparing for the coming of Ganon, this world's sword enemy. A demon who, had unfortunately strong ties to the Triforce the Golden Power. And most powerful artifact in our world; Whereas I had the Triforce of Courage and Zelda the Triforce of Wisdom. The Princesses before her had access to powerful magic and mystical properties. But for the longest time my Zelda didn't. But she did spearhead finding the Guardians strange ancient robots that lock on to the enemy, incredibly large fast. With deadly lasers able to continue their objective long after being decrepit."

"We were following the legacy of our ancestors who created the Guardians and had five champions that crushed Ganon in battle. We prepared to do the same. However Zelda and her father were strained because Zelda had trouble unlocking her powers so he would forbid her from her passion. And I was a symbol of all of her failures. I was a fighting prodigy but my passion isn't fighting. My father the captain of the guard, while he didn't deny me that, he pushed me to train constantly. I was reminded day in and day out about how the fate of Hyrule was on my shoulder. I was always not the most emotional person. So I hid it better than her. I wish I had told her sooner but we did come to understand each other and grow close one day. But then on the day we had prepared for everything. Ganon outsmarted us and corrupted the divine beasts trapping the other four champions who piloted them inside and dooming them. I was badly injured during the fight. But Zelda unlocked her powers and saved me at that moment. But I was on death's door step to save me she placed me in a secret place to heal me but it put me in suspended animation for a century. She did that to herself imprisoning Ganon in the ruins of the castle.

"Amazing and she kept him imprisoned for a hundred years?" Riku asked in awe.

"Yes," Link replied. "The Champions…." He said hanging his head. "They….didn't make it…. But fortunately I was able to avenge them. And defeat Ganon who is finally gone for good. In his anger he gave up his ability to reincarnate."

"Reincarnate?" Amei asked.

"You die you come back as something or someone else." Zidane replied.

"It'd be cool if we knew someone who was reincarnated from someone else." Raian muttered thoughtfully.

The ordeal made me lose my memories. Zelda was able to guide me, the voice gave me a warm feeling in my heart but my heart also held a deep sadness and the more I regained my memories, the deeper those feelings became. Seeing Zelda again is what kept me going. He said finishing his story as they got deeper into the cave.

There were Hyrulean ruins everywhere walls of cities that he had merely walked through himself a century ago now buried deep underground forgotten his heart twinged with sadness. But he also saw ruins none of which he recognized he could see paths and tunnels carving their way deeper and deeper threatening to go deep to the center of their world.

Raian was looking around too when the boy noticed something and ran off ahead. "Raian?" Link found himself asking and following the others followed curiously as well. There was a broken wall completely different in architecture from the others. Raian was looking at the strange symbols he glanced at Riku the older male shrugged. He had never seen symbols like that before either.

"Have you seen these Zidane?" Amei asked.

"Nope, Nanaki?" The blonde asked.

"Nothing Grandpa knows," the beast shrugged. However Raian began reading it, everything he said sounded like gibberish a language none of them had ever heard.

"You can read that Raian!?" Amei gasped.

"I don't know what it says but yeah," the boy replied scratching the back of his head nervously. Suddenly the whole place lit up with a bright silver light, a powerful loud howl that felt like it was right next to them. Amei and Nanaki had to cover their ears however in the latter's he caught whiff of two familiar scents.

"I've got Kiro and Princess' Zelda scent!" He called.

"Lead the way!" Riku said as they followed him down the path in the new brightly lit area.

Meanwhile Kiro had gotten between Zelda and the large wolf that suddenly appeared in front of them looking like it wanted to fight. A Large Silver Wolf with large fangs, a dark blue Underbelly matching head strip and ear tuffs with a pale gold horn appeared before them. He had matching wing shaped armor at the top of his legs and a collar with glowing blue moonstones two of which also had a rim like thing floating off his neck with various moonlight colors.

What he thought was Kairi was gone did the wolf bait him. However he suddenly heard the others calling to him. He saw Riku and the other rushing over. "Zelda are you alright?!" Link asked desperately.

"I'm alright!" She said before turning back towards the wolf. Noticing its blue eyes. "Can it be?…"

The Wolf howled getting ready to attack. He lunged at him however Link was quick to parry making the wolf yelp in pain. An aura appeared the wolf let out a song like howl. Kiro in his moment of entrancement was immediately interrupted by his body feeling heavier. "Damn it! Not a de-buff!"

Then it was a barrage of blood red energy that sent them all into the wall. Nanaki however had jumped clean over it and claws and teeth barred as he lunged himself at the beast's back it shrieked and yelped in pain as Nanaki began scratching at his face he managed to shake Nanaki off. Healing, himself instantly while Nanaki took the time to use Lunatic High a stat raising Kiro felt his original speed come back. He rushed at the beast going for the eyes. "Fira!" He shouted the Wolf jumped away lunging at Kiro who yelped and dove down rolling out of the way of its feet when it came down.

"Stopra!" Amei shouted trying to stop the Wolf but he pushed through and slashed at her with his large paws she used Protera to protect herself. Link attempted the same strategy with the Shekiah Slate And followed up with ice only for Fenrir to burst free. Before he could Lunge however Nananki followed up with a Star Dust Ray knocking him a few feet back. He snarled with a snap and then jumped at them they dodged out of the way. Then he and Nanaki got into a grapple. They rolled around for a bit. Kiro couldn't help but notice that the wolf had shrunken down a little whereas before it was the size of a Behemoth Heartless.

The two fought wildly but Nanaki suddenly kicked the Wolf off and blasted it with a Star Dust Ray. However the Wolf was back to its normal size healing it's wounds but it was calm standing up straight it's fur down. "Interesting….." The Wolf said.

"Who are you?" Nanaki called as everyone stared in awe.

"I am Fenrir; I have been slumbering deep beneath the land of Hyrule, waiting for one worthy of my power. And he has proven it worthy. On top of that, I sense something interesting about all of you." He said "I wonder….Where will you all go?" He asked glowing once more brightly but then it quickly died down and he disappeared.

"What happened to him!?" Raian yelped.

"He's turned into a form Nanaki can carry," Riku explained as Nanaki sat lifting his right paw. The Bracelet on it was now silver with a wolf head holding a ring in its mouth. Kiro gazed in awe.

"How does this whole Eidolon thing even work?" Amei asked.

"It's not too difficult to understand. You challenge or attempt a test that is set for you by the Eidolon you seek. If it deems you worthy it'll form a contract with you until you break your pact or should you bind by magic or blood then you're partners until one or both of you die." Nanaki explained.

"And they'll just listen to whatever they're told no questions asked!?" Kiro asked worriedly.

"Not really much like people some Eidolons are evil. But he also had methods of completely controlling those who weren't." Riku replied.

"Fenrir, he fits the description of the Divine Beast from Hyrule's legends…." Zelda said smiling. "Nanaki perhaps I could study Fenrir sometime!?" she asked eyes wide.

"Uhhh I'll see what can be done…" he said nervously his tail switching slightly.

Riku's Gummi phone started ringing he picked it up right away. "Takeshi?" He asked speaking to it.

"Hey…." Takeshi said nervously. "Uhhh we need you back here pronto. Like seriously hurry."

"What's wrong?" Riku asked. Kiro was listening carefully to the tone of his voice. It was reluctant, scared almost regretful.

"I can't say just get back here alright!" Takeshi cried before quickly hanging up.

"Something's wrong!" Kiro stated quickly.

"You're right, this is a trap….Something must have happened…." Riku growled.

"We saw Harle and Lynx here maybe it has something to do with them?" Zidane suggested.

"I'll go on ahead I want you guys to focus on getting Takeshi, Max and Walter Free" Riku said as Kiro nodded.

After getting out of the Tunnels, The group used the shrines to get some distance away from where Takeshi and co, were. Riku had gone towards where the Grand Leon Sword was. The others were following him up on a Cliff that would allow them to keep an eye on Riku and Spring any sneak attacks that were aimed for him.

However as they saw Riku look around they saw Takeshi and the others were missing. "Where are they? They should be there with whoever captured them…."

"What if they knew we'd think of this?" Link asked. Kiro's eyes widened he turned to rush to Riku however muffled screaming caught his ear. He followed it over to a small cave with a rock in front of it.

"Stand back!" Link said placing a bomb that blew up the Rock. Kiro rushed in as soon as he could blowing away the smoke with magic.

He lit up the cave and saw Max, Walter and Takeshi tied up back to back in rope and black cloths over their mouths. "Guys!" Kiro cried rushing over quickly pulling them down.

"Kiro run!" Max cried.

"The traps for you! You're the one they want!" Takeshi cried Kiro heard something rushing at him and turned gasping as he was hit with a massive Firaga into the wall.

"Kiro!" they shouted together in horror. Kiro groaned getting to his feet there was Maleficent.

"Too bad you didn't quite anticipate us. And sadly my dear Kiro your journey ends here!" she shouted unleashing a powerful burst of fire It was a bright lime green and black Kiro helpessly placed a shield over himself in a desperate attempt to protect himself however Fenrir had rushed in and blocked the move and then unleashed a powerful burst of energy that sent Maleficent flying and broke the entire cave wall around them. They were suddenly exposed to the sunlight as Kiro slowly opened his eyes.

"Takeshi!" Riku shouted rushing over to his son once he freed them and checked them over he went to check on Kiro who had only now just opened his eyes.

"You okay?" Riku asked as Takeshi hung his head nearby.

"I'm fine." Kiro replied simply make sure Takeshi's okay though.

"I'll live." He grumbled. He turned to Kiro sadly. "I'm so sorry they took Simba's Heart Binder from me!"

"No that was our only lead!" Kiro cried. They suddenly heard roaring outside and turned to see Maleficent in her Dragon Form fighting Fenrir. Eventually though Fenrir was struck by a small glimmer they rushed down to it as fast as they could. Nanaki running ahead as a light went back to him, Fenrir returning to his passive form to rest.

When they got down to where the sword is Maleficent had returned to normal with the Thorn Knight getting into a fighting stance. She was hiding behind a shield as Thorn Knight was starting to attack her in a rage.

"Maleficent!" Kiro shouted with anger. The Knight froze and turned. Reaching out ot Kiro who backed away fearfully, as Maleficent cut off Kiro's group, Zelda and Link from the others. The Knight turned on her but yelped in pain as the thorns on his armor began to twist and turn around him tying him up as he starts to scream in pain. But the vines around the bottom of the helmet spun tightly around the chin muffling his voice further. Then the Keyblade he was holding suddenly transformed becoming a cross brace with puppet strings hanging him up while the thorns dug into him the two around his wrists shooting out like swords.

Kiro stared unnerved as the knight whimpered in pain unable move without being cut deeper. Kiro couldn't help but feel sorry for him. But Zidane pulled him away as the Knight or rather the Cross Beam made him attack them He was incredibly fast with a Sonic Blade then an Ars Arcanum that followed up with beams of light rushing at them.

Kiro and Amei tried to block but the beams burst through it knocking them clean back. Nanaki dodged blows as they came rushing at him lunging at the vines that were holding the Knight up only to whine in pain as the Cross Beam shifted and slammed him away hard with a thorned fist to his gut.

Kiro blasted him with Fira bursts at him he dodged and batted away everyone before slamming into the ground with a Quakeza spell. The group screamed as they were sent flying and slamming into the force field Kiro could feel the world fading around him. He managed to cast Cura and saw that Zidane and Nanaki were the only ones left facing against him attempting Free Energy and Star Dust Ray respectively.

But the Knight had blocked them easily however the Shield had suddenly gone down. And suddenly Riku flew past them charging up a Dark Firaga that hit the Knight Square chested and then with a Cry he slashed at him. Kiro watched as the Knight's helmet suddenly came off.

His eyes widened in horror. Under the helmet was long spiky brown hair a soft warm face twisted in pain and out cold on the ground but Kiro knew him anywhere in spite of how much hair he had now.

"DAD!" Kiro cried desperately.

"Sora!" Riku shouted both rushed to him but Maleficent had summoned a Meteor spell that rushed at them, blocking their way as she lifted the unconscious Sora with Magic.

"NO STOP PLEASE!" Kiro screamed. "I'M BEGGING YOU LET HIM GO! LET MY FATHER GO, PLEASE!" Maleficent didn't answer as Riku rushed at him however Maleficent disappeared. "NOOOOO!" Kiro cried he fell to his knees punching the ground gritting his teeth breathing deeply trying desperately not to cry.

With nothing left they turned to the only thing they had left the Grand Leon Sword. "So what now?" Amei asked.

Riku went towards it however the sword began to vibrate and then in a burst of light vanished. Sure why not? Kiro was fuming at this point hanging his head with a scream in the air. The group looked sadly at him as Riku rubbed his shoulder. "Listen we'll get your dad back and find the sword." Riku assured him.

Kiro took a breath and breathing. "Please let me look for the sword at least." Kiro begged his eyes shimmering.

"He's gotten pretty strong despite losing his power." Takeshi called.

Riku thought for a moment. "We'll take care of him!" Zidane added.

"Alright I guess…but don't be afraid to go home if it gets too much." Riku told him kindly Kiro smiled gratefully. "I do know that Darkness corrupted the sword. We'll need something powerful to purify it."

"Link and I will look into whatever we can, Riku is there anyone we can speak too?" Zelda asked.

"King Mickey, Riku said giving her a Gummi Phone, call him up if you find anything he should be in the contacts, this phone works similar to the Shekiah slate."

Kiro smiled feeling better looking at Zelda made him do so but as he did he felt a strong light from her. "We've gotta get going please if you find anything out let us all know," Kiro said as they nod.

"Kiro good luck," Link said.

"And be safe." Zelda added.

"You too…" Kiro replied.

Maleficent sighed in relief as Sora out of the armor was being strung up with heavy coils wrapping around his neck legs torso and neck. He was wearing a black t-shirt with white rims on the collar bottom and sleeves and Red shorts and yellow and black sneakers. The Dragon King Ring hung on the finger opposite of the one with his Dark Silver Wedding band, His spiky long hair hung around him. "We're lucky we were able to recover him at all! how did he escape in the first place?!" She growled.

"It wasn't us I swear!" Pete muttered fearfully.

"We were looking for the Princesses! Honest!" he said. She thought for a minute.

"Very well I shall choose to believe you for now at least." the two sighed in relief at these words.

"Danzo," Maleficent said turning to the Ninja. "The time has come start gathering the Princess of Heart, we're out of time. We'll have to find more allies as we go." Danzo nodded and disappeared into the Darkness with his root Ninja. They were however unaware that they were being watched. It was Drakkon who walked away smirking.

"She'll be looking into re-implementing the armor and strengthening its spell. And while she's desperately trying to that I'll be looking into how to usurp control of Bahamut from Sora, as well as his power. Then I can kill Maleficent and Take Kingdom Hearts and the X-Blade for myself and change this world to one of my liking. So far she has gathered Danzo, Pete, Mortimer, Dominque, Harle, Lynx, Sora, Magus and recently that boy Kaen. I just need to wait."

"That was a risky move," Kaen said. "What will you do if Maleficent finds out the truth about you?" he asked.

"Kill you all," Drakkon replied simply. "I only need your hearts nothing else."

Kaen scoffed. "That goes both ways, ya know. Welp I've got to head to Olympus see one of Maleficent's old coworkers. Try not to make another show without me in the Audience eh?" Kaen smirked passing him by. The boy smirked.

"So they really don't know you're working for me?"

"Nah they have no idea and Corrum no doubt is throwing an absolute Tantrum about me leaving him too."

"Wanna go watch sounds like a hoot."

"Love too but Maleficent wants to keep things on a tightly schedule, she's scared, of Kiro why though. I'll never know." Kaen said simply.

"The Seven currents Hearts who are they anyway?"

"We only know a few names so far, Marlene Guardia, Hinata Hyuga, Medea and now recently Zelda. Only three more to sniff out."

The group had returned to Haven valley to recuperate. Kiro was already hard at work training. While Amei had gone with Nanaki to work on preforming third level spells without issue. Riku had headed out to Cosmo Canyon with them to speak to Bugenhagen. He was much better at Reading stars then him or Mickey. But either way, it was obvious now. Maleficent was trying to recreate the X-Blade by having a one sided war just like Xehanort had ultimately decided at the very last minute to lull them into a false sense of security. And she was controlling Sora to do it and would capture the current Hearts soon after.

She seethed at the thought of Corrum in her head. He cursed her so she couldn't even be in the realm of light only communicating with people in dreams and of course as soon as she found out how to do it. Luna had cut off her communication to keep an eye on Lavos. But they were working on a backup plan for now.

She felt herself transform she felt strange. "This is the best I can do for now Kairi, you'll only be as a fairy in the realm of light but in you can regain your true form for short bursts of time."

"Thank you Luna I'll be back to help from time to time promise. For now I have to go after Kiro."

Keyblade obtained: Ancient Hero: The Blade is the Ancient Blade Saw with The Master Sword's hilt extending around to make the whole Hand guard the Triforce is the teeth and the Shekiah symbol is the Keychain

Bow: When Kiro uses Magic the Situation bar fills up and transforms this keyblade into it's Bow Form

Boomerang: When Kiro uses Strike Raid or Wind Spells his Keyblade will transform into the Boomerang

Club Sword: From either the Bow or boomerang filling up the Bar will transform this Keyblade into the Club Sword

Finishers:

Bow: Arrow of Light: Kiro uses Light Magic to summon one powerful arrow that strikes down his foes

Boomerang: Farore's Wind: Throws the Boomerang form with immense force and charges up wind magic into it to create a powerful wind

Club Sword: Din's Fire: Charges up fire magic into the Club Sword form then with one might swing unleashes a wave of Fire that finishes off foes burning them

Special attacks and spells

Ars Arcanum: A Special attack of Sora's pierces an enemies defense as the user constantly slashes them rapidly.

Sonic Blade: An Attack where the user Dashes around the field with the Blade in front of them

Howling Moon: A Massive Dark Type element spell that does a lot of damage.

Crescent Fang: Unleashes a slashing attack that pierces defense.

Lunar Cry: Lowers the Foes starts sharply.

Millennial Decay: unleashes a powerful burst of Earth and Dark magic on the Foe

Meteor: Summons powerful large Meteors from the sky to attack foes.

Fenrir: An Eidolon that Zelda believes could be Divine Beast a Legendary Wolf from their world. He challenged us to a fight and now he's decided to watch us instead. (Final Fantasy VI 1994)

Sora: My Poor Missing father captured and under control by that witch! He's the Wielder of the Legendary X-Blade having earned its favor And the Greatest man I know! But we have to save him!

The Four Champions: Daruk, Mipha, Revali and Urbosa Links close friends and Allies from a Hundred years ago.
