Chapter 2: Revealing

(Ketchum Residence, Melemele Island, Alola)

"Mateus?!" Asked a shocked Ash. "First of all, I am very sorry for being extremely late. Second, is it all right if I come in?" Asked Mateus. "Of course."

(Mateus and Ash then head to the living room.)

"Oh! Detective, what brings you here? Eon?" Asked Serena. ""I was held up at headquarters for longer than I hoped." Said Mateus. "If it's for your job, then we understand. We can introduce you to the twins tomorrow if you'd like." Charles and Grace then arrive from upstairs. "Good evening Mateus. It's nice to see you again." Said Charles. "It's nice to see you too, Charles." "It's a shame that the twins are sleeping now, they're so adorable, Mateus!" Said Grace. "I can imagine." "Serena already told Mateus that he can come tomorrow." Said Ash. "Unfortunately, Ash, that's the thing, I won't be in Alola tomorrow. In fact, I don't know when I'll be back." Ash, Serena, Charles, and Grace then look at Mateus with shock in their eyes. W-what do you m-mean, Detective? Eon?"

(Mateus then turns around and lets out a sigh.)

"Unfortunately, while I was visiting Professor Alva and Rosa yesterday, I was informed by a few officers that Alva's wife was found unconscious and that his eldest daughter, Hilda, was reported missing." Explained Mateus. "What?!" Exclaimed an angry Ash. "How horrible!" Said Grace. "Despicable!" Shouted Charles. "I can't…" Blurted Serena. Serena then stops when she hears Wyatt and Stella crying from upstairs. "Ah! Wyatt! Stella! Mommy's coming! Eon!" Grace then turns to her husband, Charles, her son in law, Ash, and Mateus. "Let continue this in a bit." Grace then goes upstairs to help her daughter, Serena.

(Ten Minutes Later, In the Kitchen Table)

"I can't believe that such a terrible thing happened to Professor Alva, and that you'll be gone for a while. Eon." Said Serena. "This is a saddening turn of events, with more unfavorable timing. Since I've worked with Professor Alva for many years, they brought me on to help with the case. They're probably in Unova now, likely with their son and brother, Hilbert, trying to figure out how and why this happened." Explained Mateus. "I feel horrible for them. Professor Alva has done so much to help reunite our family." Said Charles. Ash and Serena were looking at each other worryingly. "Mateus, I know this may sound sudden, and crazy, but do you Me and Serena can lend a hand on the case?" Asked Ash. Serena then turns to Mateus. "Professor Alva has done so much for us. We should return the favor and help him reunite with his family. It's the least we can do." "Ash, Serena, I know you both are grateful of Professor Alva's help in your lives. But you two are parents now, I can't just have you two put yourselves in a situation where you both may be in danger. Plus, if you two go, who'll look after the twins?" "Charles and I will look after Wyatt and Stella." Said Grace. Mateus then sighs, knowing he'll likely be in a losing argument. "Are the four of you sure about this?" "Yes." Said both married couples. "Alright then, I'll leave for Unova first thing tomorrow morning. I'll let the higher ups at the International Police know about this. Make all the preparations you need. And you…" Mateus then points at Ash. "Don't try anything crazy." Ash then looks confused. "What does he mean by that?" Pikachu then sulks with deadpanned look "Pikachu, Pikapi. (You should know, Ash.)" Cried Pikachu.

(A Few Hours Later)

Grace was tending to her grandchildren, watching sleep in their crib. "We're all finished packing. Eon." Said Serena. "Be sure to get some sleep. You've got a big task ahead of you." Serena then looks at Wyatt and Stella. "I know that. I also know it hurts to be away from them, even if it is just temporary." Grace then turns to Serena before sighing. "Serena, if you feel in your heart that helping Professor Alva is the best thing to do, then me and your father will always stand by your side." "Thanks Mom. Tell Dad I said the same for him. Eon." "I will." "You know what to do when they're hungry?" "Feed them Moomoo Milk." "Bathe them with? Eon?" "Baby Shampoo and water." "Who to ask if you're overwhelmed or need help?" "Contact either Professor Burnet, Lillie, Mallow, or Lana." "You remembered that as if it was second nature, Mom. Eon." "I was a nursing mother once too, you know. I did much of the same when you were a baby, Serena." Serena then gave her mother a hug. "Good night Mom." "Good night Serena."

(The Next Day)

Mateus was outside of the Ketchum Residence, waiting for Ash and Serena. "I can't believe that this is actually happening. Potentially putting their lives on the line for someone they care about, with two children to care for too. If worst does come to worst, I'll make sure they return to them, one way or another." Said Mateus to himself. "Decidueye?" Cried Decidueye. Ash and Serena then arrive outside. "Switched things up, you two?" Ash is seen wearing a light-blue and white jacket with red and yellow accents, along with a black shirt, a pair of gray Capri shorts with a thin white line on both sides, and a pair of orange laced blue sneakers. Serena, however, is seen with a light pink dress over a gray tank-top, along with a white collar. Tying the dress at the collar was the blue ribbon that Ash gave her for their anniversary. In addition, she was wearing a long red vest to complement her dress. As well as a pair of gray stockings to match her tank-top and brown boots to complete the look. "We felt that it was good idea due to the change in scenery. Eon." Said Serena. "We're not going sightseeing." "I know that, Detective." Mateus noticed that Serena was also wearing a reddish-pink fedora with a black hatband around it, with holes on top of the fedora to accommodate her ears. "I like the new look." "Thank you. I think it is better suited for a shorter hairstyle, but I didn't have the time to cut it. Eon." "I think my sweetheart looks beautiful in anything, no matter the hair length." Said Ash. The trio then share a laugh before Mateus gets serious. "There's a lot that must be done. Let's head to Unova."

(One Hour Later, Melemele Airport.)

"Our flight will be taking us to Mistralton City. After that, it should be a half-hour drive to Castelia City, traffic permitting of course." Said Mateus. "What is Mistralton City like? Eon?" Asked Serena. "It is, quite literally, one really large airport, Sweetheart." Said Ash. Serena then looks at Ash with a shred of doubt. "Really, Ash-kun?" "I promise, I am not over exaggerating this." Mateus then turns his attention to Serena. "Your husband really is telling the truth." *Ding* "Dragonite Air Lines Flight Number 649 to Mistralton City will begin boarding soon at Gate 5D. Thank you for flying Dragonite Air Lines, Where our service aims for the clouds. We hope you enjoy your flight." Said the flight attendant over the loudspeaker. Mateus then gets up to check the gate. "5D. We're in the right gate. Get ready for an 11 to 12 hour flight." Serena then turns to Mateus. "12 hours? Eon?" "It's currently 8:00 AM here in Alola, meaning it is 2:00 PM in Unova. Pending on how quick boarding and final flight preparations will go, we should leave the airport at around 9:00 AM, give or take, in which it would be 3:00 PM there. Given that this is an 11 to 12 hour flight, we should arrive in Mistralton City by 8 or 9:00 PM tonight in our time zone, but 2 or 3:00 AM early tomorrow morning in Unovan Time." "I See."

(Twelve Hours Later, Mistralton City)

"You weren't kidding when you two said it's a really large airport. Eon." Said Serena. "Like I said, I wasn't over exaggerating." Said Ash. "Uh-huh. Alright, tell them we'll meet them there." Said Mateus over the phone. Serena turned to Mateus. "Is everything alright, Detective?" "Yes, we'll be meeting Professor Alva in Castelia City at the hospital his wife is in. Let's head out for a cab."

(Forty Five Minutes Later)

Mateus, Ash and Serena all arrive at the hospital, and head to the floor where Professor Alva is at. Sitting with his youngest daughter Rosa, Professor Alva is seen contemplating until she shakes his arm and he looks at the trio. "How's everything, old friend?" Asked Mateus. "Not good. She's stable, but she'll remain in critical condition until the doctors see an improvement in her health." Said Prof. Alva. "What exactly happened?" "Doctors found her traces of Sleep Powder in her system. Combined with the head injury she received, they believe a Pokémon used Sleep Powder on her while she was standing and as she fell asleep, she hit her head on something." "A dangerous injury, can be fatal under the worst conditions." "If Hilbert found within a couple of minutes to a half-hour later than he had, she wouldn't have made it. My dear Kaihaku. Polarizing, yet unifying. Understanding, yet stubborn. Illuminating, yet darkening. I tried not to make enemies to protect everyone I cared about. Team Rocket is behind bars. What could have possibly transpired for you to end up like this?" Professor Alva then begins to shed tears. Looking at his friend, Mateus places his hand on Alva's shoulder. "Professor, I can't promise you anything, but I will do everything in my power to ensure that you get the answers you need, your wife gets the justice she deserves, and that your eldest daughter returns home safely." "Thank You, Mateus."

(Mateus and Professor Alva then see Ash and Serena comforting and consoling Rosa.)

"In her letters, Kaihaku stated that, she and Hilda wanted to head to Alola and meet Serena, but weren't able to due to Hilbert's responsibilities as champion. I can only imagine how overjoyed they were when they wrote to me that they were finally able to. We made plans to surprise all of you and timed it so that me and Rosa would introduce the rest of my family, along with Hilbert's girlfriend, to you, Ash, Serena, her parents, and the twins. It's somewhat ironic, me and Rosa wanted to surprise all of you in Alola, yet it was us who were surprised back to Unova." Explained Prof. Alva. "You're a good man, Alva. You don't deserve any of this." Said Mateus.

(At that point, a man comes walking in, who Prof. Alva and Rosa immediately recognized.)

"Hilbert." Said Prof. Alva. Hilbert then focuses his eyes on Mateus. "What are you doing here?" Asked Hilbert. "Me?" Asked Mateus, pointing to himself. "Yes, you. Why are you here instead of working on the case? My older sister and girlfriend are missing, and you're just here in the hospital?" "I understand how you feel Hilbert, but anger isn't going to get us anywhere, it's a lesson that we detectives sometimes have to remind ourselves. We weren't given much of a briefing and we won't know much about the exact details until tomorrow morning. The three of us came here to comfort your father and sister." Hilbert then looks at Ash and Serena. "I'm sorry. I'm just frustrated right now." "I understand that. If you'd like to, tell me what happened two nights ago." "I finished some obligations for the Unova League and went home so I could finish packing. I found my mother on the floor, injured, and my sister nowhere to be found. Soon after that, I got a call from my girlfriend's parents asking if she was with me because she was nowhere to be found." "What is her name?" "Bianca. We've been dating since we were 12, so about 11 years now." "Hilbert. Don't blame yourself. This situation is nerve-wracking, but the International Police are here to help in situations like these." "I know I'm supposed to help, being the Unovan Champion and all, but, this case is personal. Promise me you won't let me go overboard when working on it." "I'll do my best." Hilbert then heads for his younger sister while Mateus continues to talk to Prof. Alva.
