Chapter 4
The redhead took a deep breath as she closed the door behind her, her eyes falling on her three teammates. With how far away they were she couldn't hear what they were saying, only feeling how content Blake was. She could also feel just how nervous Blake was starting to feel now that they were back from the store. She let out a sigh leaning against the pole next to her, waiting for them to collect the few bags they had.
"Since when did you grow up so fast?"
The redhead raised an eyebrow slowly closing the book in her hands.
"What?"
The blonde smiled rolling on her back putting her arms behind her head. "You, since when did you grow up?"
"Still not catching on?"
Yang sighed looking up at the sheet tent above her. "I feel like you don't need me anymore, like you used to."
Ruby frowned, setting the book to the side before pulling her knees closer to her body. "I'll always need you Yang, I wouldn't change that for the world."
"I know that, I'll always be here for you. I just noticed you've changed a lot, you're more confident in your answers now." Yang sighed looking over at the redhead. "Normally you listen to me, but you went off and still found Blake even with the things I said."
The redhead nodded, resting her chin on top of her knees. "I mean things happen, none of it was Blake's fault. I don't fault you either for what you said, we were all angry at the situation believe me." She said her eyes falling onto the metal arm before she quickly looked away from it.
Yang frowned, sitting up in her spot. "It's not her fault no, it never was to begin with. I was stupid and believed it was." She let out another sigh resting her hand on Ruby's. "What I'm trying to say is thank you, even with everything that happened you still kept a level head. These past few months just showed me how grown up you've become."
A hand rests on her shoulder making her jump a little, silver meeting amber. Blake raised an eyebrow, the look on her face silently asking her if she was okay.
"Sorry spaced out for a second there." She whispered, giving the faunus a smile, Blake hummed, tucking a strand of hair behind the redhead's ear before adjusting the bags in her other hand. "Nervous?"
Ruby nodded looking past Blake seeing Weiss and Yang making their way slowly to the porch. "A little." She whispered. "But I'll be fine." She said resting her hand on Blake's, she felt the warmth in her chest spread making her smile.
"Good morning sunshine." Yang said as her and Weiss joined the two on the porch. Ruby rolled her eyes as she was pulled into a hug by Yang, she smiled patting Yang's back.
"Air Yang, I need air." She said gasping before the grip her sister had on her loosened a little. "Sorry sorry, I just got excited. Haven't seen you in what feels like forever! Blakey over there is trying to steal you away."
Ruby shook her head rolling her eyes again as she pulled away from the hug. "Blake's not stealing me away Yang, we've just been busy since we graduated." She said, giving Weiss a smile as she gave the woman a hug as well.
"It's good to see you again Ruby."
The redhead smiled as they pulled away. "Why don't we go inside, I'll help put away the groceries and we can catch up." Ruby suggested giving Blake a quick look before they all agreed making their way into the cabin.
"I'm surprised how early you two are." Ruby said as they walked down the hall to the kitchen.
"We wanted to surprise dad, but it seems we weren't the only ones either." Yang said as she set her bags down onto the counter before sorting out of the contents. "I'm surprised though Ruby, you're not one to be early, even with how fast you are."
The redhead glared at her sister before shaking her head. "You're one to talk, remember all those times I had to wake you up for school, I even had to wake you up so we wouldn't miss the flight to Beacon." She muttered going over to the fridge.
"Alright that's enough you two, I'd rather not see any breakable ideas being thrown." Weiss said, handing a few items to Ruby for the fridge. "Besides that how have you two been? Blake wouldn't tell us much about how you've been."
The redhead hummed, closing the door before discarding the now empty bags. "I've been good actually, just going day by day to be honest. Also trying to assist Blake however I can."
"Awh look at Ruby being all cute and supportive for her girlfriend." Yang said, wrapping her arm around Ruby's shoulder laughing at the blush on the redhead's face.
"I will hurt you." Ruby muttered lightly, jutting her elbow into Yang's side, getting more laughter from the woman. "Since when did you become so aggressive, what did you do to her Blake?"
The faunus' ears shot up before she rubbed the back of her neck giving a small shrug. "I didn't do anything?"
Ruby smiled as silver met amber, she could see the woman's eyebrow raise, feeling curiosity from her. The redhead's eyes quickly shot to Yang who was discussing with Weiss something about the wine they had picked up from the store.
Blake gave a slow nod before clearing her throat. "Hey Yang, Weiss." She said, grabbing their attention. "We actually have a surprise for you… well two surprises… three?"
Ruby laughed leaning against the counter next to Blake noticing the woman was panicking slightly. "Two surprises." She said resting her hand in Blake's letting her thumb run over the woman's hand, hoping it would help calm her down, including herself.
"You two are always full of surprises." Yang said, wrapping her arm around Weiss.
"Well we didn't want to keep it a surprise as long as we did but for reasons we had to." The redhead said watching as Blake adjusted herself pulling the necklace out from her shirt making her smile. She quickly pulled the ring off the line before clipping the necklace slipping it back away.
"Shortly after we graduated Beacon I asked Ruby a question." Blake said, slipping the ring on her finger as the redhead adjusted her own ring. "I asked Ruby to marry me, and well… she said yes."
A gasp left Weiss as she walked up to the two. "No way, you two are going to get married!" She said looking at the rings.
"Actually… we already got married…" Ruby said, giving a sheepish grin both the women having a surprised look on their faces.
"Did you know about this?" Yang asked, turning to Tai who was now standing in the doorway of the kitchen.
He raised his hands laughing a little. "Listen I too only found out about this today."
"It's one of the reasons we're here early." Blake said as Yang patted her on the shoulder with a grin.
"Guess that means we're sister's now. That's exciting to say." The blonde said, getting a laugh from the faunus.
"So what did you two do? Did you get any pictures?" Weiss asked, looking between the two.
Blake could see the light bulb above Ruby's head as the redhead turned looking at Blake. The faunus smiled, fishing out her scroll before handing it over to her wife. She leaned forward leaving a light kiss on the woman's cheek before going over to Tai, she gave a quick glance out into the living room seeing Li and Gabe sleeping. "They fell asleep not too long ago, Zwei is keeping an eye on them." He said as her eyes landed on said dog.
A chuckle left her lips as she turned back around leaning against the wall next to the man. "So what is she looking for again?" He asked.
"Wedding photos, when we got married we took a few photos, we did most of the paperwork with the courts and shared our vows on the beach." She said, smiling at the memory. "I'll show you some of the photos after, but it might be a little." She paused, crossing her arms over her chest.
He raised an eyebrow tilting his head. "They are about to find out." She whispered nodding her head towards the three as Weiss and Yang stood on both sides of Ruby to see the scroll. "Was she showing?"
"For sure, 16 weeks pregnant at that point."
"We had a simple beach ceremony, though I will say the pictures don't do justice." Ruby said, tilting the scroll to the side flipping the photo.
"Awh you both had matching colors, honestly I will say red does suit the both of you well." Weiss said, squeezing Ruby's shoulder.
"Weiss isn't wrong, reminds me of prom in our last year of beacon. Both of you went with purple, but red pops more." Yang said, giving Blake a thumbs up before looking back at the scroll. "Is that the only one? There has to be… more."
Blake tilted her head watching the blonde eyes narrow at the photo, it was a few seconds before a gasp left her mouth, her head shooting back up looking at the faunus. "No way, are you joking?" She asked looking back at Ruby who gave her sister a smile.
"What are you even freaking out over?" Weiss asked, confused as to what she missed. She watched as Yang cupped her hand over her mouth as the blonde looked at her pointing at the scroll.
"How do you not see it? Honestly, you're messing with me." Weiss frowned, shaking her head taking the scroll from Ruby's hand. "I seriously don't know what you are freaking out… over." Her eyes slowly went down, finally seeing what Yang had freaked out over.
"Surprise?" Ruby said, giving her a sheepish smile rubbing the back of her neck.
"You…" Weiss pointed at Ruby before pointing back to the scroll. "You're pregnant?"
"Was. I was pregnant, yes." She could barely finish her sentence before she felt Yang pull her into a hug, her feet leaving the ground. "No way! I'm an aunt!" She said spinning before setting Ruby back down her hands resting on the woman's shoulders. "I want to know everything!"
"Alright alright, relax you big oaf." Weiss said, resting her hand on Yang's shoulder pulling her away. "One thing at a time."
Ruby gave Weiss a smile before looking over to Tai and Blake.
"Sleeping with Zwei." Tai said, tilting his head to the living room.
The redhead nodded before looking back to Weiss and Yang. "Do you want to meet them?"
"Hell yeah I do!" Yang said going to rush forward only for Weiss to stop her again; she gave the blonde a look before the woman held up her hands in defense. "I promise to be good."
The look on Weiss' face didn't go away as she slowly pulled away her hand before gesturing to Ruby to lead the way.
"Okay, so you can talk, you don't have to whisper but at least try to keep your voice in a somewhat calm manner." Ruby said as Yang gave an eager nod before the redhead led the two into the living room, Blake and Tai already sitting on the couch talking to themselves.
She slowly made her way up to the playmat before she sat down next to the sleeping babies watching Liliana's ears twitch slightly.
"Oh my goodness." Yang gasped cupping her hand over her mouth. "You had two?"
Blake smiled leaning back into the couch. "Fraternal twins."
"I can't believe it, you have two little cuties." The blonde whispered as she sat next to her sister on the floor.
"What are their names?" Weiss asked sitting on the couch next to Blake.
"The little one right here," Ruby paused scratching lightly at the base of Liliana's ears. "Is Liliana."
She could see out of the corner of her eye Yang's head shoot up. "You named her after Grandma?"
Ruby nodded smiling. "She was an important person to me growing up, both you and Grandma gave me the important mother role that I needed growing up. Not that what you did wasn't important dad." She said as Tai shook his head.
"You're not wrong, only so much I could do."
The redhead gave her father a reassuring smile before leaning forward running her finger along Gabe's cheek. "And this little guy here is Gabriel, Blake named him after her grandfather."
"I think those names are wonderful for them." Weiss said giving both woman a smile. "How old are they?"
"One month, they were both born on February 2nd." The faunus said her ears twitching as Gabriel started to make a few sounds. Ruby gave a hum as she wrapped her hands under the boy before picking him up, the small sounds turning into grunts. She cooed at the baby shushing him lightly, it didn't take her long to calm him down thankful that he didn't start crying.
"So when did you find out?" Yang asked leaning her back against the loveseat behind them smiling at how motherly her sister was being.
"We found out in our last month at Beacon, it's why I got sick a lot." Ruby said scratching her cheek a red tint coating her cheeks.
The blonde chuckled, shaking her head. "I thought that was because Blake would-"
"Don't you dare finish that sentence Yang." Weiss said glaring at the blonde who kept laughing. "You promised you would be good."
She held up her hands again. "I promised, I couldn't help it."
Ruby laughed, shaking her head before looking over at the clock, she bit her lip looking at the time.
'Not much longer until team JNPR gets here.' She thought looking down at Gabriel smiling. 'Probably best if we feed them now.'
She didn't realize Blake was sitting down next to her until she felt someone bump her right shoulder grabbing her attention. "Want me to get a bottle? You look tired."
The redhead raised an eyebrow tilting her head. "You were staring at the clock for a good five minutes maybe." Blake whispered as Ruby looked around the room, noticing that not just faunus moved from her spot. Weiss and Tai were nowhere to be seen, while Yang now sat across from them on the floor watching Liliana sleep.
"Wow I really zoned out." She whispered resting her head on Blake's shoulder, smiling as she felt the woman's arm wrap around her. "You're tired, I understand. Like I said if you want I can feed them with a bottle if you want to nap for a little longer."
Ruby shook her head before sighing. "I should do it this time, It's starting to get a little uncomfortable. I noticed when I first woke up from the nap, I probably need to pump as well after anyway."
The woman nodded leaning down leaving a kiss on her head. "I can go grab the nursing cover if you want to stay down here or go up to the room, I can set up all the stuff, and also can sort out clothes and toiletries for tonight."
"Nursing cover will be fine, I don't want to get up just yet." Ruby said, hearing Blake chuckle before another kiss was placed on her forehead. "Alright I'll grab it then."
Ruby watched Blake disappear out of the living room before her eyes landed on her sister across from her, she smiled at how focused Yang was watching Liliana sleep. "Are you making sure she doesn't disappear?" She adjusted Gabriel in her arms as she rubbed her thumb over his cheek.
Yang rubbed the back of her neck smiling. "You promise not to laugh?"
The redhead hummed before nodding. "Honestly it brings me back to when mom brought you home, I was only two but I remember it like it was yesterday. Man you were so small, you were so small you fit right into my arms. I was so excited to have a sister… and now looking at these two reminds me of that feeling, except now I'm an aunt."
"Then why don't you hold her? Instead of just staring at her."
She could see how fast the look on Yang's face changed as the blonde looked back down at Liliana. It only took her a few seconds before she realized why the woman was hesitant in doing so, making her frown.
"You're not going to hurt her Yang, they won't be bothered much with the feeling of your arm." She whispered, hearing a small sigh come from her sister. She shifted her body before resting Gabriel back on pad scooting herself over to Yang resting a hand on the blonde's. "Look at me Yang."
The blonde hesitated before liliac met silver. "I trust you won't hurt them, here." She whispered leaning down letting her hands scoop up under Liliana, she brought the baby to her chest before scooting closer to Yang, their shoulders touching. "Hand." She said holding out her left hand gesturing for Yang's.
Yang frowned for a moment before bringing her hand up into her sister's. She watched as the redhead flexed out her hand before bringing it over, letting one of her fingers run across the baby's cheek.
Ever since the incident where she lost her arm, having the metal one was a blessing. She could still fight and become a huntress with it… still be normal. She could feel things as if the hand were hers, just not temperature.
She could feel how soft Liliana's cheek was as she let out a shaky sigh and a small smile forming on her face when she noticed the ears on top of her head twitch. "Now, other hand." Ruby said as the woman followed her sister's instructions, this time with her real hand.
It was the exact same as her other hand, however she could feel the warmth this time, the same reaction coming from the baby.
"See? Now Gabriel might be the only one who is bothered by the temperature change, he's a bit more fussy then Li is, but as they grow older they'll probably find it to be cool."
Yang let out a laugh. "Like someone I know? You've been begging to upgrade it since dust knows when."
The redhead rolled her eyes pouting. "Listen I've told Pietro all of my ideas, even told him I can do them myself… but he won't budge."
The blonde shook her head before taking a deep breath. "Alright, I'll try." She paused, adjusting herself before holding out her hands. "I know to support the head, I remember mom drilling me through what to do and not to do."
"Yup, support the head and don't freak out if she starts crying. Like I said Liliana is very calm… surprises me just how calm she actually is." She said letting her hand rest under the baby's head as she shifted her body to rest her in Yang's hands. "And there you go." Ruby said as she sat back down next to her sister watching as Yang adjusted into a comfortable spot.
The blonde said nothing as she looked down at the baby in her arms, only a smile on her face. "She looks smaller in my arms." Yang whispered, letting out a breath she didn't realize she was holding.
Ruby smiled, pulling her knees to her chest resting her cheek on top watching the two. Watching Yang smile while holding Liliana made her happy, she took a deep breath wiping her eyes as tears started to form. She shook her head running a hand over her face before looking over to her wife entering the living room. The faunus raised an eyebrow tilting her head before her eyes went to Yang, a smile replacing the confusion.
"She's beautiful isn't she?" Blake asked, handing the nursing cover to Ruby.
Yang nodded quickly, wiping her own face making sure she had a good hold on Liliana. "She is, both of them are. You two do realize I'm going to spoil these two to absolute oblivion now right?"
The redhead rolled her eyes wrapping the cover around herself. "Please wait until they are old enough to remember, and we're discussing this now since we are on the topic. If you dare send my children home on a sugar rush I will do the same to you when you have children." She said glaring at the blonde as she finished putting the cover on.
"No promises."
Ruby let out a hum as she laid her head down on the pillow, letting her eyes close with a sigh.
"Tired?"
"Exhausted." She said feeling the dip beside her, she felt the blanket shift before she turned to her side Blake's arm wrapping around her waist.
"Sleep then, I will get their next feeding." Blake whispered in her ear leaving a kiss right under making her shiver.
"We can do it together, you must be tired as well." Ruby mumbled leaning back smiling at how warm Blake was, she felt the woman's lips leave light kisses along her neck.
"I'll be fine, I'm more used to not sleeping. Night owl, remember?"
The redhead rolled her eyes too tired to retort.
"We were worried about nothing." She whispered, tangling her hand in Blake's, she earned a hum from the woman before hearing the soft purr come from her.
"It seems so. I honestly thought Nora and Yang were going to fight who got to hold them next."
Ruby laughed, nodding. "I'm glad everyone accepted them," she paused, looking at the crib next to the bed. "It makes me happy, I knew they would be okay… you just get nervous."
Blake hummed sitting up resting her elbow against the bed looking at the crib as well. "I was just nervous Yang or your dad would kill me, but it was quite the opposite. After everything, I guess I was worried they would only think about that."
The redhead let out a small yawn as she turned to lay on her back staring into the golden eyes, a tired smile pulling at her lips. "They like you, love you even. You're family… we're a family now. I wouldn't let them hurt you in any way." She said, bringing her hand up resting it on Blake's cheek, the purr from the woman growing by the touch.
"And I will protect you, we protect each other."
"Always."
The faunus smiled leaning down for a quick kiss before resting her forehead against Ruby's. "Alright try and get some sleep." She said leaving a kiss on her nose. Ruby let out another laugh shaking her head before turning back to her side again resting in Blake's hold.
She took a deep breath, closing her eyes, focusing on the faunus' heartbeat behind her.
"Hey Blake?"
The woman hummed in response, stuffing her face into the crook of the redhead's neck.
"Can we visit my mom tomorrow?"
She felt the woman nod her head feeling the arm around her waist tighten slightly. She smiled slowly closing her eyes letting sleep take her.
Heyo everyone! It's me again ;-;, I promise I didn't forget about these stories. I love writing these too much right now to give them up.
During the last month or so I was able to post an update to AO3 but not to fanfiction. I normally don't like to post personal stuff on fanfiction, but recently I went through Hurricane Ian which is why I was gone for so long. Thankfully we are safe and my house does not have much damage at all to it.
I'm slowly getting back into writing. I wanted to rewrite my chapters because I wrote them before the hurricane and I was sick at the time. I apologize for the delay and thank you for the kind words 3.
I will try to stick to my current every other Friday schedule for Bloody Roses and I currently have one more chapter planned for Our Surprise *along with something cute I want to show when it's done! ;-;
Thank you for understanding 3.
