Amy Dallon

"I need your help Panacea-senpai."

That was bad news, really bad news, New Wave was considered to be the, well kind of the leader of the independent heroes set in the city. That meant people occasionally called for help, and right now an independent named Ribbon needed our help.

"Why?"

"It happened again."

I didn't have to ask.

"How bad?"

"Real bad, a bunch of people got hurt, please hurry."

I sighed, put on my suit and knocked on dad's door.

"I need Vicky, something happened in ABB territory."

"She grounded."

I sighed.

"I need her help."

He nodded his head.

"She comes straight back after you're finished."

I walked over and knocked.

"I need you, I'm going into ABB turf, dad oked it."

The door burst open.

"I'm in."

We suited up and flew to the site, Ribbon was there and I cringed. Ribbon was a solo hero, about my age, who really played up the magic girl theme. Imagine someone snorting a bunch of Pixy sticks while using half remembered japanese and you're close to what she's like. She's um, annoying as hell, but she has a good heart.

"Panacea-senpai I'm-"

I looked at it.

"Another hit and run?"

She deflated.

"Yes."

I looked at the carnage. A family, the woman was screaming, the man wasn't moving the... yeah not going to be able to save the baby. I went over the man.

"Do I have permission to heal him."

The man had dead eyes, he was bleeding out.

"There's no point..."

He stared at the crushed baby carrage.

"Do I-"

"Whatever."

He just seemed dazed, I touched him, a couple broken ribs, broken arm and internal bleeding. It was an easy fix, I couldn't fix the mental stuff though, he just stared at his dead child. Just gone to the world.

The woman kept screaming, I touched her and did a scan... nothing actually wrong with her physically, just some scrapes, she didn't need my help. I went over to the carrage and went to the... yeah I couldn't fix this, fucking hell.

"I'm sorry."

Ribbon frowned and nodded.

"You did your best Panacea-senpai."

I shrugged, and tapped Vicky's wrist, a crowd was forming, an angry one. I didn't understand what they were saying but I got the gist of it.

"We have to go now."

She frowned and we flew to a nearby roof top. I went into my contacts and called, the phone rang until.

"Panacea, it's good to talk to you."

"I have some bad news Faultline."

There was a pause.

"It happened again didn't it?"

"Yeah, it did."

"Jesus, how bad was it?"

"A baby was killed, hit and run."

"Fucking hell, just ugh fuck... ok.. thanks, I'm going to have our people do some calls and lock down the walls, hopefully it will just be protests this time."

I felt for them, I really did, most people in the enclave were all right but... well there were some serious assholes in it too.

"Anyway you can get those idiots to stop speeding?"

Faultline groaned.

"I wish, but the problem with that is that the ABB does do the whole car jacking thing, and there have been revenge killings so the minute they leave the enclave they fucking floor their cars, until they're out of ABB territory. Which sometimes kills people which pisses of the asian community even more, which leads to revenge killings and beatings which..."

"A vicious cycle?"

"Yeah it's good for us because we get paid to keep the area safe but even I think this whole thing is fucked up. We're good but if things ever really went to hell..."

"You think people are angry enough to do some thing to the enclave?"

She was silent.

"I don't think, I know."

"But... the nazis are a-"

"No...they aren't, for your average asian person in the bay the Empire isn't a big, day to day threat. You see between Empire turf and ABB turf is the Teeth. So that keeps the Empire from going in and beating them up. You're much more likely to lose someone to some hit and run then to an Empire attack and people know it."

"It's still messed up."

"That's life Amy, we will keep things from getting out of hand, it's what we do best, ok? And thanks for the heads up."

The phone call ended and I looked at Vicky.

"It's time to go home."
