"I start my training today." Cas mentioned while they got dressed for the day.

"What training?" Dean asked.

"Well, I guess it's not training. I've got to sit with the two detectives that are going with me undercover and they'll give me my new alias and they'll help me get his story down and everything."

"Oh… Interesting." Dean said quietly. "Do you know who you'll be?"

"No. I'll find out today."

"Are you going to even be able to tell me any of this?" Dean asked.

"Honestly, I have no clue… Probably not, for you safety and mine."

Dean sat on the edge of the bed. "It's getting closer." he said softly.

"I know." Cas said just as quiet and sat next to his mate.

They sat there for a few minutes before Cas checked the time. "I better get going. I love you." Cas gave Dean a kiss.

"I love you too." Dean watched Cas leave from the top of the stairs before heading into Henry's room to get him ready for the day.

Cas pulled into his parking space and made his way up to the detectives floor. "Hi, I'm looking for Detective Harrison and Ford? I'm Cas Novak." Cas talked to one of the first detectives he saw.

"They're back here. Follow me." the detective got up and led Cas to a back room where he saw a female and male detective sitting at a long table with papers and maps everywhere on the walls and table.

"Novak is here." the detective announced as he opened the door.

"Thanks Bill." they said in unison and motioned for Cas to sit down.

"Castiel. Nice to meet you. I'm Allison Ford and this is my partner Carl Harrison."

Cas shook their hands, "nice to meet you."

"So you know a little about what's goin on?" Carl asked.

"Yes and know. I mostly just know the method of torture this person is using." Cas explained.

"How do you know the method?" Allison asked.

"A few years ago my mate was taken and he has the same scars along his abdomen just like all the other victims have. They're almost identical."

"But they captured the guy who had your mate?" Carl asked.

"Yes, that's why it was so shocking to see the markings. Especially after I had my captain check to see if Alistair was still in prison."

"Alistair. Why is that name so familiar?" Carl asked.

"Alistair Evans. He was arrested for rape, kidnapping and murder." Cas instantly said. "He's in Leavenworth prison."

"Yes! I remember that on the news." Allison said. "He's the one who had your mate?"

"Yes. We actually went to high school with him. He graduated the same year as my brother. But Alistair, he had an obsession with Dean we could never figure out why until he kidnapped him. Turns out Dean's father sold him to him. But Alistair had to wait until Dean graduated before he could have him." Cas explained.

"But you and Dean were together." Carl guessed.

"Yes, we found out we were true mates when Dean became pregnant outside of his heat."

Allison gasped, "true mates? That's so rare now a days."

"They are. So, Dean and I mated, I moved in with him and we had our son. Alistair took him not too long after. Dean was gone for weeks before I found him."

"You found him?" Carl asked.

"Yes, it's another long story, but I found him and it also turned out that Alistair also had my sister captive. She ran away before we moved here… She gave her life protecting Dean's." Cas said quietly.

"Oh my god. That's quite an ordeal." Allison whispered.

"Yeah… So anything I can do to help figure out who's doing this so it can come to an end the better. For all I knew it was just Alistair and his father doing this but they must of had an accomplice." Cas said pulling up a chair and reaching for some of the files.

"Whoa there cowboy." Carl said grabbing the file. "We need to get your story set first."

"My apologies." Cas said. There was a few beats of silence before Carl spoke.

"Okay, your name is Steve Lawson. You're a drug dealer from Topeka. You came here hiding from your ex partner who you ratted out to save your own hide. Your drug of choice is cocaine. We have some from evidence that you'll carry around on you but you'll also have a baggie of just powder that you can snort if you need to put on a show. Just try to remember which pocket you keep it in; and you are very fond of prostitutes." Carl winked.

"Okay. That's a lot." Cas chuckled. "Wait, I don't actually have to sleep with anyone right?"

Allison and Carl both laughed, "no, you're safe. A kiss on the cheek or a slap on the ass will do the trick." Carl grinned.

"You have no family left. We figured that would make it easier for you so that way you don't have to dive too far into details. If they ask you're free to say whatever happened to them." Allison mentioned.

Cas just nodded and listened, trying to absorb all the information on his new life. "Here is your new drivers license, social security number, birth certificate and any other documents you'll need incase anyone goes snooping. We've also aged the documents so it's not obvious that they're new." Carl said handing Cas everything.

"Am I allowed to tell my mate any of this?" Cas asked.

"We can't stop you but we don't recommend it." Allison said.

Cas nodded. "Are you going under cover as well or are you just the going to be the voices in my ear?"

"We won't be around as much as you will but we will be there out of sight. Allison will be Sarah Johnson and I'm Jake Olsen. We'll be your 'customers'." Carl explained.

"Got it." Cas nodded.

"Good. Now tell us who you are?"

By time Cas pulled into the driveway he was ready for bed. He was mentally exhausted. The smell of garlic bread filled his nose the second he opened the door and his stomach growled.

"I'm home!" Cas announced as he hung up his keys and kicked off his shoes.

"Hi papa!" Henry said running out of the dining room.

"Hey buddy." Cas smiled and took the hand that Henry offered.

"We made 'sgetti!" Henry smiled and pulled Cas towards the dining room.

"It smells good." Cas smiled.

"Hey babe." Dean greeted as he set down the bowl of spaghetti on the table.

"Hey yourself." Cas said pulled Dean in for a kiss. "Smells great in here."

"I made the garlic bread myself. None of that frozen stuff." Dean smiled and gave Cas another kiss.

"Eww stop it." Henry whined and made a face which made the two laugh."

"Sorry buddy." Dean chuckled.

They ate their dinner and watched a movie together on the couch after, with ice cream of course.

"I think I'd rather go through academy training than this." Cas sighed once they were in bed.

"Is it bad?"

"No, just a lot to process. I've got to memorize my whole new identity and my partners' identities. I've got to pretend this whole life here doest exist." Cas sighed and looked down at his ring. "Which reminds me." Cas started taking the ring off when Dean stopped him.

"What are you doing?"

"I've got to take it off now so the indent fades. My new identity is a single alpha who enjoys prostitutes a little too much."

Dean let out a small whine. "Dean I'm not actually going to be sleeping with anyone. It's just a story. But, I can't have an indentation of a wedding ring on my finger."

"I get it." Dean said and held the ring in his hand. He got up and rummaged through a few things before coming back. "There." he said and showed Cas. Dean found an old chain from a necklace and slipped Cas' ring on it and put it around his neck.

"Good idea." Cas smiled softly.

The weeks went by too fast for both Dean and Cas' liking. Their cycle was due to start any day now and they still had no clue how they were going to tell Henry that his papa wasn't going to be around for a while. Dean was in Henry's room packing things up for him to stay with Charlie while Cas was at the store with Henry getting things to prepare for the week.

Charlie showed up while Cas and Henry were still gone. "Hey red." Dean said coming down the stairs.

"Hey."

"You think you can handle Henry for the whole week? My mom said she can take him for half if you need it."

"Nah, we'll be good." Charlie waved him off. "How you feeling?" she asked.

"I'm alright. Normally I don't mind my heat because it's the higher chance of getting another pup, but this time it means Cas leaves for god knows how long."

"Yeah… That's going to suck, I'm sorry." Charlie frowned.

Dean sighed and sat next to his best friend on the couch.

"What if you do get pregnant?" Charlie asked.

"I don't know. We've talked about using condoms this time but we haven't decided. We want a pup but I don't know if it's the best time now."

Charlie wrapped an arm around Dean and pulled him against her. "I just can't stop thinking about if something happens to him how I'm going to survive with out him."

"Nothing is going to happen to him. He's smart."

"He leaves the day after our cycle is over and he has to stay by himself for another week or so that way he doesn't smell mated." Dean said softly.

"What about his mark?" Charlie asked.

"I'm assuming he'll say it's from an ex mate or his mate died… I don't know any details about the man he'll be."

"I could hack into the system and find out for you." Charlie teased.

"No." Dean chuckled, "it's tempting though."

They talked about other things for a while before Cas and Henry walked through the door.

Charlie stayed for a couple more hours while Dean and Cas explained to Henry what was going to happen.

"Hey buddy, come here." Dean said gesturing for Henry to sit in his lap. Once Henry was seated he glanced at Cas and took a deep breath.

"Did you have a good day with papa?" he asked.

"Yeah, but we missed you daddy."

"I missed you too but it was important that you spent the day with papa." Dean said softly.

"Why?" Henry asked.

"Because papa is going to have to go away for a while." Cas said and slid over to be closer.

"Why?" Henry asked tears filling his eyes.

"Papa has a very important job to do. This job requires me to go away for a while and it's going to be very hard for me to come home and visit or call." Cas explained.

"Like a secret agent?" Henry asked causing them to chuckle.

"Kinda." Cas grinned.

"But I'm not going to be here when you come back from aunt Charlie's house. So, before you leave I'm going to need the biggest hug you have."

Dean quickly wiped away his own tears, not wanting Henry to see him upset. Henry started crying and crawled into Cas' lap.

"I don't want you to go papa."

"I know buddy. I know, but I have to, it's very important that papa goes. The faster I can catch the bad guy the faster I can come home." Cas fought back his own tears and Charlie was even crying a little.

They let Henry cry it out and cling to Cas. Dean could feel his heat starting but tried keeping his distance so Henry and Cas could have their moment. Cas caught a whiff of Dean's scent and gently pulled Henry back.

"It's time for you to go with aunt Charlie now. I need you to be a good boy for her and be a good boy for daddy while I'm gone. And remember that I love you sooooo much." Cas pulled Henry in for one last hug before setting him down.

"Thank you Charlie." Cas whispered and pulled her in for a hug as well.

"Of course. You stay safe and come home okay?"

"I promise."

Dean made sure to give Henry a hug and Charlie just waved.

"Bye papa I love you. Bye daddy love you too." Henry said before he and Charlie left.

Cas ignored the urge to take his mate right there on the couch to make sure Dean was okay. He pulled him into a hug and held him tight while Dean cried.

"Are you alright? I can lock myself in the guest room if I need to."

"No. I'm okay, I don't want to be away from you. This is our last few days together before you leave. I just needed to get that out." Dean said pulling away from the hug. "Just give me a minute." Dean went into the bathroom just off the living room to splash some cool water on his face and to blow his nose.

Once Dean felt confident enough that he wasn't going to burst into tears again, he left the bathroom and found Cas pacing.

"Cas?" Dean asked.

"I'm alright, my rut is just getting stronger and I'm just giving you your space."

"No you're not, come here." Dean said opening his arms and Cas' nose was in Dean's neck instantly. Cas let out a little whine/hum as he inhaled Dean's scent.

"Let's get upstairs." Dean suggested and gasped when his legs were suddenly around Cas' waist.

"Condom or no condom?" Cas asked once they were upstairs.

"I don't know." Dean answered and Cas immediately snapped out of his rut induced haze.

"Dean? I'm not doing anything until I have a yes or no answer."

"I know… I want a pup Cas. I want one so bad but I'm also scared about you leaving and something happening. What if I do get pregnant and you get killed? What if we use a condom and you still get killed then I'll never have a part of you running around."

"Dean. I'm not going to get killed. I've got plenty of backup and you know I know how to keep an eye out."

"I know Cas. But I can't help the feeling."

"Then we use condoms." Cas stated.

"I don't want to use a condom." Dean argued.

"You're confusing me." Cas laughed.

"I'm confusing myself." Dean sighed and flopped back on the bed. "We should have discussed this sooner."

"Yes, but we're still sane enough right now to have a final decision."

Dean stared at the ceiling trying to think.

"If I did get pregnant, I wouldn't know for a while obviously. You could be back by then… But yet you might not. I don't want you to miss the pregnancy."

"So far it sounds like you're leaning more towards the condoms." Cas said rubbing Dean's leg in a comforting way.

"I know but at the same time I don't want them. I want to feel you. Not rubber."

"Dean you're making things more difficult than they need to be."

"I know!" Dean groaned and sat up. "Can we flip a coin?" Dean joked.

"No." Cas grinned. "I'm not leaving the chance of our pup on a coin."

"Fuck it. No condom. Final answer." Dean said throwing his arms around Cas.

"You sure?" Cas asked.

"Yes. Now shut up and fuck me."

The last day of their cycle they hardly spoke. They washed the sheets and cleaned up the bedroom and the rest of the house in a comfortable yet slightly awkward silence. "Do you want to shower first?" Cas finally spoke once they were done cleaning.

"Dean?" Cas asked when Dean didn't answer. Cas turned around expecting Dean to still be in the living room but was stunned to see that he was alone in the room. "Dean?" Cas called out again but was met with silence so he went upstairs to look for his mate.

"Dean?" He called out one last time and still nothing. Cas pushed the bedroom door open and found Dean sitting against the wall with his knees to his chest. Cas walked over to Dean and sat next to him. They sat like that for a few minutes when Dean finally moved so his head was resting on Cas' shoulder.

"I'm sorry." Dean whispered.

"For what?" Cas asked.

"Disappearing like that. I just got lost in my head and needed to be where our scents were the strongest." Dean explained.

"Dean if this is effecting you as bad as I think it is, I don't have to do this. I can still back out, I might cause an uproar but I don't care. Your mental state and your well being are far more important to me."

"I can't make you do that Cas. I'll be okay, it's just hard to let you go… We haven't been apart this long ever. It's just a lot to take in. I mean sure it's going to be tough for a while but I'll adjust, Henry will adjust."

Cas laid his head on top of Dean's and they stayed like that for a few minutes before Cas' stomach growled. "Come on, let's get some actual food." Dean said.

"We need to shower first." Cas mentioned.

"Then come on." Dean held his hand out and pulled Cas into the bathroom with him. The shower ended up with Dean pressed against the wall and Cas slowly pushing in and out making sure he pulled out before his knot could lock them in place.

They actually cleaned up and Dean headed to the Roadhouse to grab food to bring home. Aside from Cas going to the store before their cycles Cas has been trying his hardest to not be in public just in case someone were to recognize him while under cover.

"Dean what are you doin here?" Ellen asked after giving him a hug.

"Just picking some food up for Cas and I. Not in the mood to cook."

"Oh well let's get that food going. You want your usuals?"

"Yeah, that's fine. Thanks Ellen."

Dean sat on one of the barstools and played iMessage games with Cas while he waited. After a while he felt someone walk up behind him and he went still. "What's this?" an alpha slurred and Dean heard the alpha inhale. "An omega just outside of his heat?"

"Fuck off." Dean growled and slid away.

"Well now that's no way to talk to someone. Did you have someone to help you with that heat of yours or were you alone begging for an alpha?"

"Well that ain't none of your concern now is it partner?" Benny's voice came out of nowhere.

"Oh is this your bitch?" the unknown alpha asked.

"I'm nobody's bitch asshole." Dean growled again.

"Dean." Benny warned.

"You can leave now." Ellen said coming out with Dean's food.

"I'm a paying customer."

"Not anymore. I suggest you leave before things get out of hand." Ellen said again and they all heard the cocking of a gun.

Benny gave Ellen a look and she just raised an eyebrow. The alpha muttered a few more curses and left.

"You alright honey?" Ellen asked.

"I'm fine. Nothing new." Dean grumped, "thanks for the food." Dean handed Ellen $25 knowing that was too much money but wanted out of there.

"Dean." Ellen and Benny both called after him but Dean ignored them.

Dean got in the Impala and bolted from the Roadhouse. He wasn't scared of the alpha, he was pissed off. He hated being an omega half of the time for that reason. The more emotional he got the more the smell of the greasy food next to him churned his stomach so much he had to pull over and throw up.

And of course throwing up always made Dean cry for some reason. "Damn it." he huffed wiping his mouth and spitting a couple times to try and get the taste out of his mouth. He found a bottle of water in the cup holder, not entirely sure whose it was but he didn't care at the moment, and swooshed some water in mouth before spitting it back out.

"Fuck." Dean mumbled as he got re-situated in the Impala and drove the few more blocks home.

"Did you get sucked into talking to Ellen?" Cas joked when Dean walked through the door.

"Yeah something like that." Dean said his voice cracking from his throat being sore from trowing up, he quickly cleared his throat.

"Dean?" Cas quickly jumped off the couch.

"I'm alright." Dean said making his way to the kitchen.

"You don't smell alright, what happened?"

"Nothing, don't worry about it." Dean was getting agitated.

Cas sighed, "why must you be so stubborn?"

"Because I shouldn't have to explain every little emotion to you Cas! What just because I'm an omega, I have to be a whimpering mess all the time and rely on my alpha to make me feel okay? I'm just a normal person Cas!" Dean blew up and instantly felt guilty.

They just stared at each other for a few seconds in silence.

"Cas. I'm sorry… I-" Dean started to apologize.

"Don't worry about it Dean. I know that wasn't directed at me. What ever happened I'll be here to listen, until then let's eat before this gets any colder." Cas said calmly and walked close enough to Dean to rub a thumb across Dean's cheek.

"Cas." Dean said softly.

"Yes?" Cas turned back around.

"I'm so sorry."

"Dean, it's alright."

"No. It's not. I blew up on you for no fucking reason. You should be yelling back at me."

"I'm not going to yell at you Dean. I told you, I knew it wasn't directed at me. I was just the person in the way so to speak."

Dean took a shaky breath, "an alpha got all 'alpha' on me at the roadhouse."

Cas' anger rose far to fast causing the room to stink. "What?"

"I was waiting for the food when he came up behind me making a comment about my heat and asked if I was alone or a good slut… Benny popped in out of no where, he must have been sitting in one of the booths, then Ellen came out and kicked him out.. I grabbed our food and I bolted." Dean explained and wasn't aware he was crying until a tear hit the counter he had been staring at.

"I'm sorry Dean." Cas said softly and moved next to his mate.

"I'm so sick of being an omega Cas."

"I know."

"Of course I wouldn't trade Henry for anything or any other pups we might have but fuck dude."

"Come on, let's not think about it." Cas said and gently tugged on Dean's arm to lead him towards the living room.

The alarm went off far too early for their liking. Today was the day Cas left for who knows how long, they didn't speak they just quietly got ready, showering together of course and sharing kisses and gentle touches.

"I love you." Cas said grabbing a few things he could take with him. He was getting a whole new wardrobe that didn't smell like mate and didn't smell like "home".

"I love you too." Dean said softly not looking directly at Cas.

"I'll be back sooner than you think my love." Cas said moving into Dean's space.

"It's not going to feel like it." Dean said finally meeting Cas' eyes.

"I know."

"Just be safe. I love you and hurry up and catch this son of a bitch and come home to us." Dean said while tears filled his eyes.

"I promise. I love you." Cas gave Dean a kiss and a long hug before walking out the door.

"I can't loose you." Dean whispered once the door was closed and he watched Cas back out the driveway.
