Amy Dallon
"You scared me."
Mom's statement kind of hovered in the car.
"I had to stop them."
"I know it's who we are, heroes. You did what you had to do Amy, hey they didn't walk out of that bank with any money, none of the civlians were hurt, overall I would call that a win. Just be careful, ok?"
"Thanks mom."
We continued driving and then stopped at a hill top.
"Mom?"
"You can see Mars tonight."
She pointed at some blue marble.
"That used to be red you know, now you can breath the air there, sail the waters, the fish are growing more plentiful, and grasslands cover the entire planet and if you know where to look, the beginnings of forrests are there."
"Mom?"
"We live in an age of miracles."
We just watched the stars.
"What's this about?"
She sighed, and held out a hand and...
"Oh... so wow."
"You're going to have a little brother soon, with the extra pay coming in, with things being more stable your father and I thought that this would be a good time."
"Can't you wait until..."
"The war's over? No one knows how much longer that's going to be Amy, nobody knows how much more time we have."
"And if something happens?"
Mom shrugged.
"Your aunt and I have an arrangment, we have contingencies, things will work out."
We continued driving.
"So, any plans?"
"Survive, go to school, get a medical degree?"
Mom nodded.
"That's a good plan, Vicky's been thinking about going to school too, just remember you have that option."
We continued driving and got to our home.
"Come on, we all missed you."
Dad waved.
"Spaghetti's almost finished."
It was good to be home again.
