Dragon

2007, March 3rd

I smiled as I went down the aisle, father watched through a video screen, the camera on top of it relayed the message to him. He looked somewhat bored but at least he was here in spirit. It had taken three years of sceaming to get to this point, three years. I smiled at the traditional music as we prepared for my grand entrance. I refused to believe that this would be the best day of my life, but you know what it's going to rank pretty high up there, right?

"So how did you get him to, you know?"

My maid of honor.

"I asked him to marry me."

She blinked, and looked shocked, she simply didn't get it, fortune favors the bold. You have to work hard to get what you want, and if she had a crush, well you snoze you lose sister.

"Really?"

I shrugged.

"I knew what I wanted and I didn't want to wait forever."

There was always going be some crisis, some disaster, something to get in the way. It was best to be direct, at least that's what worked for me.

"You ready?"

"Yeah, I am."

The music played and Colin looked uncomfortable in his suit and tie. My dress was an off white, rationing hit us all and and it made weddings more spartan and simple. His tux was rented, my dress was something my grandmother got married in. Father didn't pay for my wedding but he was willing to do a few things for his daughter's wedding. I stood next to him and he smiled.

The judge nodded and started talking, neither of us were really religious so a justice of a peace was used. It was a small group of people, just me, Colin's parents, and some coworkers. We kissed and the crowd went crazy, Hero hugged his former student. I still don't know how he snagged Costa Brown but they were cute together.

"Hey, you know what this means?"

Hero smiled at my father.

"Ugh I will wire over the money, I still can't belive that he managed to get a wife."

"Ten thousand old man."

He rolled his eyes, the view of Mars behind him.

"I'm wireing the money."

He stared at me and slumped.

"Look Cindy, I'm clearly not father of the year, or even a half way decent one, but I just want to say... be happy."

He sighed.

"And please come visit your old man, even if I am an ass if there are grandchildren to spoil, well I at least want that chance and Colin?"

"Yes Sir?"

"Army of killer robots if you fuck this up."

We walked into the room with the simple spread of alcohol and we started eating. It wasn't a fairy tail wedding, and I was grateful for that. It would have felt off if it had been like that. It would have struck to close to home. I was a real girl now and I had to live it.

A slice of cake, Colin nervously tries to feed me, he misses, I kiss him and the crowd roars. It's going to be OK, I have my prince and if he's a little awkward well that's ok because so am I. Was having a maple syrup flavored cake too on the nose? Well no one's complaining about the maple candy. Assault gives us a thumbs up and plays something romantic.

"Come on, dance with me."

He wipes the cake off of my face, and we dance, I hug him close.

"This song sucks."

He freezes.

"I know... Bohemian rapsody?"

"Save it for later, Ballroom blitz?"

He smiles.

"I'm In."

The DJ sighs at our request and I just enjoy the movement and dancing, for now I'm alive, I'm happy and I'm in love. I save the moment to my hardrive so I can relive it when ever I want.
