Amy Dallon
I watched the city below.
"This isn't a date."
I smirked.
"This is totally a date."
Void, Greg shook his head.
"No this is two people eating pastrami sandwitches on top of a skyscraper, there are zero romantic undertones."
"So the sunset?"
"You were busy, I was busy it got dark, it happens."
"Uh huh, its totally a date."
He sighed.
"It's not a date."
"Uh huh."
"I am a strong independent cowboy who doesn't need no woman."
"Right...right, and your horse is where?"
"City ordinances prevent me from bringing Trigger into Brockton Bay, which is another example of the overregulation of our city."
"Trigger? You named your imaginary horse Trigger."
Void rolled his eyes.
"Of course not."
I smiled.
"Trigger's real, it cost me like 500 bucks, the real issue is paying the farm to feed her and the upkeep, actually it's more like I rent him but hey I got to pick the name."
I stared at him.
"You're fucking with me."
He smiled.
"Actually funny thing I really am not, I did the math it's roughtly 3,600 dollars a year to keep, train and stable a horse in our state."
"How would you afford a horse?"
"Ok once you finish the dirty 30, you get roughly 22,000 dollars a year from the US government, finish 10 and you get 5,000 from the UN for life. I can just use my UN stipend to pay for the upkeep, this of course does not include the bounty I get for killing Zeus."
I blinked.
"You could probably afford a horse too, I mean it wouldn't be-"
"I want to ride your pony."
Void stopped, and stared at me.
"Ok... but we have to finish our food first, by the way why did you pick the deli?"
I shrugged.
"I picked up from my sensei when I was getting trained in Seattle, Woody loves the stuff."
"Hmm, it's hard thinking of him as um..."
"A person?"
He frowned.
"That's not what I meant."
I took another bite.
"I know I get a little defensive some times, there are still plenty of people who expect him to just go crazy and kill people despite all the things he's done for us. I'm sorry."
"It's ok."
"I still want to ride your pony though."
"Trigger is a horse, not a pony."
"Meh same thing."
I finished the last bite.
"So?"
"Yeah, your suit flies right?"
I nodded my head, it was a mixture of mamal and insect, it was probably immune to Skitter's control but I hadn't tested it yet.
"Yeah, follow you?"
"Yep."
We flew across the sky as the sun got lower, eventually we exited the city and landed in a field. I frowned at the smell.
"It's a dairy farm, rumors are they sell milk to the gangs."
"Milk?"
That sounded... stupid.
"Why would gangbanger's want milk?"
"Blackmarket Icecream."
I stared at him.
"That's stupid, who... who would buy ice cream from the black market. It's Ice cream."
He shrugged and knocked on the door.
"Cowboy... and you brought a girl."
The man was old and wore a coat made out of blue denium.
"She said she wants to ride my pony so I brought her to see my horse."
The man rolled his eyes.
"Look um... I may need to have a talk with you when your lady friend is gone, about things."
Void cringed.
"It isn't like that."
"Right... well you know where Trigger is."
I walked with Void and saw a black and white horse.
"You sure its not a cow?"
"It's called a paint horse... it's a really popular breed, don't listen to her Trigger, you're a good girl."
"You bought a girl horse?"
"Yeah."
"And named her Trigger."
He shrugged and opened a box and fed his horse a carrot.
"Want to-"
I grabbed a carrot and watched Trigger slowly eat the carrot.
"You know a part of me should have expected this."
Void smiled as he carefully brushed Triggers head with his hands.
"Just because I'm a tinker it doesn't mean I cant appreciate the natural world."
He opened the latch and put a sadel on her.
"So?"
"Ok."
He carefully helped me on and walked the horse outside, the moon light feel on us as we trotted out into the night.
"This still isn't a date Amy."
I rolled my eyes and smiled as we road into the night.
