Sesshoumaru's ears were still ringing from the sound of the door slamming. "I'm getting the locks changed in the morning."
"A wise decision."
She paced around the apartment, her hands twitching as she looked for something to throw. "If one of them ends up as a pile of ash, I'm using you as an alibi."
"It would not be necessary."
"Did you not hear everything they just said? They totally deserve—"
He chuckled, the sound foreign to both of them, it effectively stopping her tirade.
"You are too smart to leave behind any evidence. I sincerely doubt there would be any part of them left to be identified by," he said. He'd meant to diffuse the situation, but she just sighed and flopped down on her couch.
"Not smart enough to stop it from happening." She ran her fingers through her hair, pulling on it in aggravation. "I only ever let them throw one party. One. Guess they somehow got it in their heads that if I wasn't here, I couldn't say no."
"That is a testament to their character, not yours." He could've left, especially now that he'd found out the truth—and that this woman was not involved—but he found himself settling down next to her instead.
