Naruto put a lot of work into his seals around the places he needed to put them. Being away from Itachi was torture but he was relieved that he was able to get to know Kisame better considering he was on the verge of wanting to kill Kisame previously to possibly have an open friendship with the other guy.
"How do you know if the others have got the message?" Kisame asked as he set up camp for the fifth night in a row.
"They are all connected to the fox so they all could communicate if they really wanted to but never really did. At this moment it's hard to not hear all of the voices from the tailed beasts because they all want to understand why they are all being summoned together in all of these years and trust me it has been decades since they all seen each other," Naruto said shaking his head.
"Shut it kit," Kurama grumbled.
"Who is the hardest to get a hold of?" Naruto asked.
"Isobu," Kurama said annoyed.
"Is it because they don't have a host?" Naruto asked.
"Not necessarily it's because they aren't answering none of my calls or pleas for help," Kurama said.
"Would if the one you're searching for is already in enemies' hands and they are using it for their benefit by putting it in someone on their side?" Kisame asked.
"They would be suicidal," Naruto said.
"I mean they are the Akatsuki and are pretty careless and don't care for life very much," Kisame countered.
"Damn it that's very true. I didn't think of it like that but I know I should have," Naruto said.
Naruto started the campfire and started to cook the food they had. Kisame went to the closest village and bought food several times for the two of them.
"What are we going to do if they really do have someone from their side with Isobu?" Naruto asked Kurama.
"We will have to kill them Naruto," Kurama said sighing into his big fox tail.
"I promised..." Naruto started.
"We can't always keep our promises we just have to end the suffering and I wouldn't want them to suffer," Kurama said.
"Hey kid why don't you get some sleep," Kisame said looking around checking to see if he felt anyone around then got a nod from Naruto.
Kisame hasn't tried to harm Naruto at all throughout all of the nights they've been together. Naruto wasn't sure if it was because he became somewhat close to the other or if he was just afraid of the seals. But he knew he could sleep and feel at peace or at least partial peace since Itachi's warmth wasn't around. At around three in the morning, Naruto suddenly woke up with a jump.
Kisame was also on alert jumping to the side where Naruto was.
"What the fuck is going on?" Kisame snapped out.
"Shush," Naruto whispered as he moved Kisame out of the way like he was trying to get a visual of something that wasn't there.
That very second someone came out swinging at Naruto in a fight ready and Naruto knew they weren't going to use their chakra because the other tailed beast wasn't letting them. Naruto knew very well who it was but didn't stop his fight considering he didn't want to get hit himself.
"Damn it," Naruto snapped out but pushed the other back.
"Who the hell are you?" the voice snapped.
"Gaara stop it!" Naruto said voice full of irritation and sadness.
Kisame noticed and didn't say a thing. A part of him wanted to interfere but he didn't. Then something hit Naruto like a freight train and it was another tailed beast holder slamming into him. Kisame didn't hesitate this time jumping into the fight knowing that Naruto didn't want to hurt them but he also didn't want to deal with the angry Uchiha later for not doing anything when Naruto was getting jumped.
"B, Gaara stop fighting me and I can explain," Naruto said holding his stomach his eyes turning a red that Kisame has never seen the other have before.
"Naruto your eyes," Kisame said letting go of Killer B and walking up to Naruto.
"I heard the jinchuriki for Konoha was a woman," Gaara commented.
"No time to explain that," Naruto said pushing Kisame away again. "You can trust me," Naruto said as he stood up straight again his eyes turning blue.
"Why should I trust someone from the Leaf ya dig?" Killer B stated.
"I'm trying to save all of you from the current situation that the Akatsuki is trying to create. They're literally trying to catch all of the tailed beast holders and take our tailed beast out of us essentially killing us," Naruto expressed.
"You're not making any sense," Gaara said standing in a corner by himself.
"Ask Shukaku," Naruto said then looked at B. "Ask Gyuki," Naruto said toward B. "If I was lying, I wouldn't know their names at all and you can't tell me I'm lying because they told me their names themselves no one else would," Naruto said firmly.
"He's right ya know? The big man says the other tailed beasts would never tell each other's name to anyone because it wasn't there's to share," Killer B said looking at Gaara who nodded his head.
"Okay so I believe you're not an enemy but what do you want from us?" Gaara asked.
"Shit," Naruto said and Kisame looked at him.
"What is it now?" Kisame asked.
"Remember when we were talking about Isobu?" Naruto asked.
"Yeah I mean no because you weren't talking to me about that one but yes I remember that name," Kisame said nodding his head.
"I just remembered something very important and we have to shut the connection right now," Naruto said.
"Why?" Kisame asked.
"Because Isobu was the Mizukage," Naruto said fear etching his face and clear understanding was on Kisame's face.
"Shit, what should we do? How should we alert Utakata and Itachi?" Kisame asked.
"You're going to have to alert them while I tell my clones the new message and get the other tailed beast aside from Isobu from coming," Naruto said.
"But didn't you say Isobu is the only one not responding?" Kisame asked.
"Yes, but they still know the location and pretty soon the pull is going to be too strong," Naruto said.
"That's true I can feel Isobu on the move as we speak," Kurama said.
"Shit, which location is the closest to him?" Naruto asked.
"Itachi and Utakata," Kurama said worriedly.
"Fuck! Kisame I have to go and warn them," Naruto said.
"You can't because I can't do these damn things I will have to go," Kisame said.
"Or you can send one of us? Are these people allies of ours?" Gaara asked.
"Yes, one of them is a tailed beast holder while the other is my..." Naruto didn't know how to finish that sentence.
"His person," Kisame supplied.
"Okay... I will go," Gaara said.
"Send him through the links between the locations. Their location spots have already been dissolved the second they went through it. If they are moving away from us, they will go straight to Utakata and Itachi," Kurama said softly.
"Okay that works just go through the portal thing again," Naruto said. "Tell them that Isobu is no good and already corrupted and to get out of there," Naruto said.
Just as Gaara went through someone else came out. It was Fu and she didn't look very happy.
"What did I get summoned for?" it wasn't the voice of the human but of the tailed beast.
"Chomei," Naruto said making the girl look at him immediately. "We're trying to save the tailed beast and its holders from the Akatsuki. You have to trust me," Naruto said holding out his hand only for it to get slapped away.
"How do you know my name?" Chomei immediately growled out.
"You told me it," Naruto said softly trying to calm her down.
"You sure that damn fox in you didn't say it to you?" Chomei lashed out.
"You know I wouldn't tell any human your name you foolish fly," Kurama growled out through Naruto and that was the first time Naruto gave Kurama control over his body but he was also still there.
Naruto had one blue eye and one red eye so Naruto was very much aware of the things going on.
"Then what is the meaning of this? Gyuki you're here too? Did he know your name as well?" Chomei asked.
"He knew mine and Shukaku and Isobu. I don't know if he knows the rest," Gyuki said through his holder.
Killer B didn't mind. Gyuki and he was pretty close even if Gyuki found him annoying.
"I know all of your names because you told me them," Naruto said annoyed Kurama taking a back seat.
"Prove it," Chomei said folding Fu's arms.
"Shukaku, Matatabi, Isobu, Son Goku, Kokuo, Saiken, Chomei, Gyuki, and Kurama. I know all of your names because all of you told me them," Naruto said adamantly about his reasonings.
"I feel familiar toward him," Fu mumbled coming to herself as Chomei was about to say something.
"You do?" Killer B asked.
"Yes, I do I mean it's faint though but I feel something. I know we can trust him," Fu said.
"Well thank God because I wasn't sure if my own feelings were off ya dig? I was feeling the exact same way," Killer B said.
"So you trust me?" Naruto asked.
"Yes, as far as we know your trying to protect us but why does it feel like I've met you before?" Fu asked.
"I will tell you why later when we get somewhere safe," Naruto said then looked at Kisame. "Itachi and Utakata must have the other jinchuriki's because almost all of the placements are gone aside from one and that's for Isobu and that isn't safe," Naruto said cringing at the thought of Isobu being controlled and not being able to save him.
"Maybe taking him would be a good idea," Kisame said.
"What?" Naruto asked confused.
"If we take him with us, he won't be able to go back and say anything about the Kyuubi jinchuriki trying to gather everyone," Kisame said.
"Yeah, but he probably already said something that's probably why he was so quiet about it," Naruto said.
"I don't think we should take the risk," Fu said chiming into the bit of conversation that she started to listen to as the others came through the portal leaving no other portals to them.
It has been a month and Naruto was so happy to see Itachi but he couldn't even get close to him at the moment because from the looks of it he owed a lot of explanations.
"Okay so before I explain any of this, we need to get the hell out of here," Naruto said.
"What about the three tails holder?" a voice asked.
"We can't risk bringing him with us when he is being controlled by the enemy right now so we have to extract him some other way at the moment but for now let's get out of here," Naruto said.
"We can't just leave him," another voice said.
"It's either leave him and get him later or you're on your own when he comes with Akatsuki members," Naruto said not planning on moving an inch. "Then watch us how we get picked off," Naruto said.
"We will all be going lead the way," Gaara said.
"Every village who has one of us will be completely freaking out," a woman said.
"Would you want to go back to your village with the risk of getting caught by the Akatsuki?" Naruto asked turning toward all of them.
"Naruto," Itachi said coming forward with Utakata.
"Because I can assure you, they will catch you and you will die. So, giving all of our villages some space is the perfect decision to change the course unless you want to go back. I'm not stopping you," Naruto said. "You could all go back and risk your village and risk all of your families but I refuse to be the reason that everyone I love dies," Naruto said shaking everyone to the core.
"Who are you?" the woman asked.
"My name is Naruto I am the jinchuriki for the nine-tailed fox and you're the jinchuriki of Matatabi but I don't know your name," Naruto said.
"Yugito Nii," Yugito said strongly.
From what she could see right now he was in control of what they were sent to.
"Naruto we got to go now," Kurama said in a snappish tone.
"We have to go now. Everyone if you want to make it past this without getting caught grabs someone's hand. Kisame come here," Naruto said and Kisame did as he asked walking up to Naruto with Itachi on his other side.
Everyone grabbed a hand and Utakata was holding Itachi's shoulder while holding the other person's hand.
"Does everyone have hold of someone?" Naruto asked getting a nod from everyone and then they all vanished just as Isobu came into view.
Naruto let out a sigh because he was pretty sure someone else was with the Mizukage but wasn't able to see them.
"Naruto how did you find out he was corrupt?" Itachi asked quietly to the side.
"Because Rin is alive that means they never were able to put the three tails in her which also means that the Akatsuki has had the three tails the whole time since Kisame said he was being controlled. It means that we can't get to him without breaking the hold he has on the Mizukage," Naruto said quickly.
Itachi looked at Naruto and then pulled him away from the group gently.
"Are you okay?" Itachi asked.
"It was dangerous to do what I did," Naruto said.
"What do you mean?" Itachi asked.
"He was heading right for you and he was bringing someone else. I don't know who he brought but they weren't an ally," Naruto said softly grabbing Itachi's hand.
"Were you worried about me?" Itachi asked.
"Of course, I was," Naruto said making Itachi smile.
"I was worried about you too," Itachi said.
"How was talking to them when they came?" Naruto asked.
"Some didn't want to talk to us well me," Itachi said.
"I got attacked," Naruto said.
"Did Kisame at least help you?" Itachi asked glancing at Kisame.
"Yes, he did," Naruto said looking at Itachi who had a proud smile on his face. "Why do you look so proud? You look like a proud dad," Naruto said laughing gently.
Itachi looked at Naruto shocked never heard that soft laugh before and couldn't help the blush that appeared on his own face.
"I mean I told you he would help you," Itachi said blushing still on his face.
"Can we get some answers now?" Yugito said.
Naruto's smile left his face immediately.
"I'm starting to regret this," Naruto mumbled as they got interrupted.
Itachi was shocked by Naruto's commentary and was very worried about his thought process because Naruto has never been one to shy away from helping others.
"Give us a second," Itachi said pulling Naruto back and pulling him into his Tsukiyomi going into Naruto's mind where the fox was.
"I was wondering when you would come," Kurama said.
"So, you know why I'm here?" Itachi asked.
"Yes," Kurama said nodding his head.
"What is wrong with him?" Itachi asked.
"He is having a hard time. His personalities are clashing. It's like a battle of personalities right now. For the most part, he is Naruto the one you fell in love with in the past but sometimes he is the Naruto of this reality, and that Naruto isn't as considerate, to say the least. He is a lot more heartless and ruthless. Naruto is able to remember the past better than you for several reasons. 1. He remembers it because I remember it. 2. He has people who remember him. 3. He is resolute about not forgetting the past in case others get hurt. The whole month you were away it took a lot on him because he didn't have you around to constantly remind him who he was and why you guys were doing it. He only had Kisame and me and we're both not a box of puppies who are excited to play. It is hard on him," Kurama explained.
Itachi listened to the fox diligently like he was about to study for a test nodding his head when he understood and couldn't help but question some things.
"Why isn't this happening to me?" Itachi asked finally.
"Because you have been the same way in both lives. You would do the exact same things no matter which life. Naruto had changed because his upbringing changed your upbringing was still the same except your parents were able to survive," Kurama said.
"So..." Itachi started.
"But your memory is different from Naruto's because you have the Sharingan. It's like having a photographic memory which is something I'm sure you have as well," Kurama said.
"Yes, but I still find myself slowly forgetting things," Itachi said.
"It's probably because you don't want to remember the past because of how painful it was for you," Kurama said softly.
"What should I do about Naruto then?" Itachi asked.
"I don't know. Keep him sane when he seems to be losing it," Kurama said.
"Will he be, okay?" Itachi asked worriedly.
"I don't know and that's what makes me worried. If you ever notice that something is too much for him control me and I will take over," Kurama said softly. "I don't want Naruto to lose himself. I know what he will think too. He will say it is worth it with all the friends and people you both saved but I don't think so. He is what brought people hope before and all the tailed beast and if he is gone there is no hope even if we just saved all those people," Kurama said sadly.
"Don't worry I will handle the fall back I promise," Itachi said and left the mindscape.
"I hope so," Kurama said.
Itachi gave Naruto a smile that was so gentle that Naruto was shocked.
"Did you talk to Kurama?" Naruto asked softly.
"Yeah, I just wanted to find out what was going on with something," Itachi said.
"Alright," Naruto said turning back to the other jinchuriki.
Itachi could honestly say he was scared. He was happy that his loved ones were alive but if that meant letting go of the humanity of the one person who saved them all he wasn't sure he wanted it. He was scared to lose Naruto. Not just Naruto but the young man he fell in love with.
