No. 20 It's been a long day (fetal position)
~
He closed the door and slowly moved over to his bed. All he wanted was to lie down. To rest.
It had been a long day. So much work. So many people asking him questions, expecting orders. And he needed to sleep.
But he knew that he couldn't.
Keenser lay down and pulled his knees close to his chest. He felt tears fall from his eyes as he closed them tightly.
He wasn't good at this. He wasn't good at being a CEO. It was all too much.
"Scotty…"
His voice was quiet, barely a whisper.
He needed him. Keenser needed his best friend. His boss.
But Scotty was gone. He had left him alone. Without a warning, he had left this place.
Keenser still remembered holding the man's hand. He had been with him the whole time while McCoy had tried his best to keep the Scotsman alive.
The doctor had failed. Too many burns and cuts and other injuries.
Keenser pulled his knees even closer and sobbed as he thought of Scotty's hand going limb inside of his.
Why? Why did he leave him?
It wasn't fair.
All the people he loved. In the end they were just gone.
George. His family. And now Scotty too.
When would it be his turn? When could he finally join them?
Keenser still heard their voices in his head.
They had encouraged him, helped him through life, loved him.
Who would be there for him now? Who would cheer him up after a long horrible day? Who would laugh with him? Who would work with him, causing miracles to happen?
"Scotty…"
He wanted to cry out for him. But he knew that the engineer wouldn't come.
However, there was a knock at the door.
Keenser curled up even more. He didn't want to see anyone.
"Keenser?"
That voice. McCoy. What was he doing here?
"Keenser, are you okay?"
No… no he wasn't. He wasn't okay at all.
"Please… talk to me."
Slowly Keenser got moving. One foot. Then the other.
He made his way over to the door and opened it, looked up at McCoy.
The man had been crying. He could see it. Even though the doctor tried to hide it.
"Keenser…"
The Roylan didn't say anything. He just wrapped his arms around McCoy and hugged him tightly.
And when the doctor hugged him back, he knew that there was always someone who loved him.
He could only hope that he wouldn't lose him too.
