When the phaser blast hit right through his chest, Keenser knew that he was going to die.
He blinked in confusion.
First once. Then twice.
How could this have happened? He had been extra careful. He had snuck into the shuttle Scotty had taken. He had waited long enough to get out.
He had followed the trail of unconscious officers all the way to the bridge.
Voices.
Kirk talking to that admiral.
Sounds of a fight.
Keenser had peeked around the corner to see many lifeless bodies.
So many people knocked out.
And one of them was… Scotty!
Keenser had not thought about his actions, just bursting into the room.
So here he was.
He felt blood slowly filling his lungs. He couldn't breath.
His eyes were focused on the man who had shot him. A dark haired human being.
The man looked merciless and cold hearted. He held a bruised Kirk in front of him.
"Keenser!" The captain called out his name.
The Roylan looked at him before his eyes moved over to the motionless Scotsman.
He could see the chest moving up and down. Scotty was alive. He was okay.
His gaze wandered back to Kirk who stared at him with wide eyes.
He wanted to say something. Keenser wanted to ask what was going on.
So many questions filled his mind. Why was the admiral dead? Who was this dark haired man? Was Jim okay?
But no word left his mouth. For as soon as he opened it, only a wave of purple came out.
He dropped to his knees, coughing up more and more blood. He'd die. He'd die on this strange ship.
Keenser heard Kirk calling out his name over and over again.
The last thing he saw was his captain breaking free from the grip and lunging at the man with the phaser.
Then there was nothing. He fell into darkness.
