Shipper: Syd/Vaughn Syd/Will friendship
Spoilers: Cipher
Rating: PG-13
Type: Reflective
Chapters: 1/1
Disclaimer: I don't own 'em. yet!
Dedication: To Lauren, only because I know how tired of these short, reflective, no-dialog pieces you are and yet you keep reading whatever I send you. Even if you do take awhile to send feedback
Summary: After meeting Vaughn, Will wonders about Syd and Vaughn's possible relationship.
Feedback: Yes, please!
Will's POV; directly after the elevator:
Well, that was. strange.
Don't get me wrong - Syd's handler seems like a nice guy - but it was kind of strange to talk to him.
Okay, first there was the whole Francie thing. How the hell did he know about her and the restaurant? He acted like he talked about it before, but who would he talk with? Is the CIA spying on Syd and her life? Are Francie and my biographies part of a file everyone involved with Syd at work reads before working with her? Or is it just something as simple as Syd telling him?
And that is another thing, what is up with him and Syd?
I remember the frame clearly. Syd loves it and looks at it all the time - even now, almost a year later. It was pretty expensive looking. I tried to think of a perfectly understandable reason why a handler would give his spy a picture frame. I thought maybe it was some other secret code - I mean, you obviously never know now a days.
But Vaughn just ducked his head and told me it was a gift. Told me with his eyes downcast and almost blushing. Told me like a school boy caught trying to sneak a Christmas present into his crushes stocking and getting caught.
The thought that all those "wrong numbers" - or at least the ones that were quickly followed by Syd's leaving - were this guy is sort of weird in its own right. I mean, how could the two of them only talk about work if she wasn't always flying to one part of the country or the other? Well, yeah okay, she did leave a lot but she was home sometimes. And she got a lot of wrong numbers!
I guess I am just over thinking everything.
I know that Syd could take care of herself and I really did think that Vaughn seemed nice. But there is something that is making me uneasy about all this. Maybe it is the fact that Syd had gone off to see and talk to a guy I had never met. Maybe it is because Vaughn almost reminded me just a little of Danny and so must be Syd's type.
Maybe it is just the fact that I've seen my best friend when she told me about Vaughn, and I've seen him mention Syd, and it all seems to be just a little beyond protocol.
