A Maiden At Her Best
Chapter 1: Oh dear

Oh dear, she thought, setting down her tea. This certainly wasn't what she expected when she poured herself a cup of tea just a few minutes ago. Perhaps it was left behind by Urd when she and Skuld left two days ago on a 'vacation.' It was Keichi's favorite kind of tea...

Oh dear. Keichi. What would he think when he saw her? Maybe he wouldn't notice. She ran a nervous hand through her hair. No, even on his most stressful, distracted day of exam week, Keichi would notice something like this. Maybe she could disenchant herself before he came home.

She stood and walked to the center of the room. She moved her hands around her, chanting, and gravity loosened its grip on her. The magic flowed through her differently, she could feel it. When she finished the spell, she examined the results.

Oh dear.

Obviously this was going to be a problem for quite a while. And her clothes were not longer fitting nearly as well. Rather than to risk changing them magically, she did it the old fashioned, mortal way. She hoped Keichi wouldn't mind, though it'd hardly be the first thing he noticed.

She heard the door slide open and Keichi's voice. "Belldandy, I'm home!"

There wasn't much use in delaying the inevitable. "How was your day?" she asked as she walked out into the hall.

"It was great, Tamiya -" He didn't get and further. His jaw hung slack and his eyes stared. The first thing he noticed was her hair, now shorter by a good four feet at least. Then his shock grew as his gaze drifted down. She wore one of his old sweaters, a near-perfect fit, but his jeans were a good three inches too short on her.

"Keichi?" she nervously asked, blushing at his intense scrutiny. Oh no, her voice was deeper too.

Upon recovering the power of speech, Keichi sputtered, "What - Bell, you're - Did Urd -?" Of course, he could somewhat sympathize with her - his predicament.

"It was an accident," Belldandy said, nervously twirling his hair around his finger until he realized it was no longer long enough. "Urd and Skuld aren't even here, they're on a trip with G - er, a friend."

"Oh." Keichi was trying not to look at him. "Can't you use a spell to reverse it or something?"

He shook his head. "I tried, but it only made things worse. I'm just… not a goddess anymore."

"I-I have a paper I need to work on," Keichi said distantly and walked quickly into the next room, closing the door behind him.

Belldandy saw his book bag still lying by the door. He picked it up and tried very hard not to cry. Boys aren't supposed to cry, right? Well, he was still new at this.
