Dearest Mercy,
I am afraid that I have come to love you. I come everyday to your
home in hopes of getting to know more about you but come with only the
knowledge that I love you more. I see you knitting in solace. Your serene
silence. Always looking happy with the lord in your heart. It is true that
the good lord has given you a beauty unmatched. Even with your bad leg, I
can see you with me forevermore. I know that I will never send this letter.
For I have set your sister to believe that we have a mutual love and you as
well have been deceived. I will not mistreat your kin and will try to
support her and maybe even love her. I fear though, that I will always love
you.
