Everytime he cried out, threw the bottles across the room,
glass shattering on the floor, she flinched.

Everytime he thrashed, screamed out to people who weren't
there, she flinched.

"I am NOTHING like Mom" Eric yelled, his hand smashing through layers
and layers of wall that crumbled at his feet.

************
I don't want you to give it all up
And leave your own life collecting dust
And I don't want you to feel sorry for me
You never gave us a chance to be
***********

She couldn't help but shake in her sweatshirt and flannel pj bottoms.
It seemed approiate to stand quietly and shake gently in fear.

"Wwwwhat, what did I do to you, Abby? God!" a frantic hand ran through
his hand as he paced back and forth walking quickly over the spot she'd
fallen, when she didn't expect Brian to be walking through the door, when
she didn't expect her brother to scream and cry like a seven year old.The spot
where her blood lay, his ran down his fingers onto the rug she bought to
hide the new stain.

Abby listened as the pacing upstairs stopped. She closed her eyes,
picturing her neighbors flush with the floor, waiting for the next
breath.

"You're my baby brother", her hand looked small as she reached out
for his injured hand,"I..I..."

"You want to lock up your whole goddamn family,p-pretend like we don't
exist", Eric's cool fingers turned and grabbed her wrist hard, digging
his nails into her skin.

**************
And I don't need you to be by my side
To tell me that everything's alright
I just wanted you to tell me the truth
You know I'd do that for you
**************

"Someone's gonna call the police, Eric" Abby's voice shook as she
hissed her meaningless warning,"I...I was attacked before.Right here"

"And I didn't know!" he yelled loudly, sending her hand into her face.
Abby flinched and swallowed hard, resisting the urge to hold her own
face and cry, trying to hide the racing heart that echoed in her ears.

"You!" Eric's finger shook in front of her eyes, wgging at her like a father
would scolding his scared thirty something year old daughter."You didn't
tell me Abby! Me, Abby! your dear little brother" he dragged his wounded
hand against his forehead,"You didn't tell your precious, crazy brother"

He watched her the sister that drove him to the hospital, in tears
everytime he cried out as a child, when he fell out of the tree and
broke his arm, sirens getting louder with each minute that slowly
went by.

"You, you should go" she walked to the door, slowly."They're a good block
away, if you go now.."

***************
Cause I did enough to show you that I
Was willing to give and sacrifice
And I was the one who was lifting you up
When you thought your life had had enough
And when I get close, you turn away
There's nothing that I can do or say
So now I need you to tell me the truth
You know I'd do that for you
*****************

Tears raced down his cheeks, as Eric sank to the floor, his
long legs and arms tucked up to his long torso, hugging himself.

Abby watched as he held his hand to his chest, the blood pooling
on his neatly pressed polo shirt.

His bottom lip quivered as the sirens got louder, filling the
apartment.

Eric closed his eyes, as she dredged towards the door, the stop
the loud, hard, frantic beating on her door."Abby?"

She stopped, breathing carefully now, to keep her calm, her
cool.

"I'm scared, Abby"
