I DON'T OWN HIGH SCHOOL DXD, IT BELONGS TO ITS RESPECTIVE OWNERS!

A/N: Hello everyone and welcome to my first published story! I'm The Crimson Feather and I would like to thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this. I'm super excited to finally sit down and write this. I think it will turn out amazing!

I've had this idea in my head for a fanfic for High School DxD for a solid year and only now just starting to put it on paper. I know the betrayal story has been done countless times, but I have my own take on it.

In this parallel universe, Rizevim waits a little longer to release Trihexa which results in his defeat, similar to the original timeline. This is why none of Maou, Seraphs, or Azazel are sealed.

That's all I will say about the story here, just wanted to ensure that there's no confusion. xD

So without further ado, let us begin…

[Ddraig Talking]

[Ddraig Talking to Issei]

Chapter 1: Betrayal Hurts

Run…

All he could do was run away from the forces pursuing him.

The Devils were chasing him through the capital city of the Underworld: Lilith

Issei Hyoudou, wielder of the Boosted Gear, The Red Dragon of Domination, was beyond confused. He's being chased by his former allies for some unknown reason and was seen as an enemy of The Underworld. The dragon was baffled, surely it was a mistake. They know he would never do something like this. They wouldn't throw him in prison or kill him, this had to be a misunderstanding. At least that's what he told himself, but now he is starting to doubt that. Maybe they were really out to get him.

He had tried several times to talk it out with them on the run. However, it had always fallen on deaf ears.

"Guys! Please listen to me! I haven't done all these terrible things, I've done nothing wrong. Why are you doing this?!"

Issei called out to his friends and comrades again, hoping one of them would respond to him and snap out of whatever trance they were in.

However, just like all the previous attempts the plea had reached no one. Even the Maou closest to him like Sirzechs and Serafall didn't say a word and continued their pursuit.

Suddenly, Issei got a response, but not the kind he wanted.

Sirzechs summoned a powerful Ball of Destruction and hurled it at Issei.

Sensing it and acting quickly, Issei extended his dragon wings and took to the skies. He made a sharp left to barely evade the attack.

"Ddraig!" Issei exclaimed, 'What do we do? What the hell do we do?!"

Ddraig was just as confused as the boy. He had absolutely no idea why the Devils were doing this. Issei had just played a massive role in defeating Rizevim Lucifer a few days ago and now they wanted him dead? Something wasn't adding up, the Dragon of Domination thought.

["I'm not sure Partner, but you need to get out of here. Despite your immense strength, you don't stand a chance against all the Maou and an army of Devils by yourself."]

Seeing that this wouldn't be solved with words and he did not want to fight his friends, there was only one thing to do: run away.

He used all his power trying to escape, but he was starting to run low on stamina and getting exhausted from the constant dodging and weaving he had to do. Not to mention he had been doing this for more than an hour and hadn't fully recovered from his fight with Rizevim. Even with his balance breaker, it made little difference now as the Devils were closing in on him by the second.

As the chase ensued, a sudden light appeared in the sky, it appeared to be holy in nature. As Issei stared at the radiant light, he felt a sinking feeling in his stomach and found himself in a state of denial.

"No… no way" Issei mumbled to himself. That wasn't who he thought it was right?

When the portal opened, his fears became true. Angels started to fill the sky and like the Devils, took off after Issei, causing him to expend even more of his energy.

Issei couldn't believe what he was seeing. He felt his entire world crashing down on him.

Everything he had accomplished and achieved was being taken from him.

All of the people he once called family were now turning their backs to him.

His entire life and everything it stood for slowly started to crumble apart in front him.

Issei couldn't hold it in anymore. Tears flowed freely down his cheeks and eyes became red in irritation. His heart ached so much he thought it would burst. His stomach churned despite the fact he hadn't eaten for hours. His brain pounded in his head, as if his mind was desperately searching for answers, but none came.

Ddraig, sensing the overwhelming conflict and pain from his partner, tried to calm down his host.

["Issei, I know you're upset and want to find answers. But you cannot dwell on these thoughts. For now, we must get out of here if you wish to survive."]

Adhering to the dragon's advice, Issei shook his head and did his best to calm down.

"I know Ddraig, I know, I just feel…"

["I understand Issei,"] Ddraig replied, not needing his host to say anything for him to understand his feelings, ["Let's just focus on one thing at a time and get the hell out of here."]

With a much clearer head, Issei continued his escape from the angels and Devils. There was one question that appeared in Issei's mind even after Ddraig's advice.

What could he have done to upset the Angels and Devils to this degree? Not only were the Devils chasing him but now the Angels were as well? How could he have screwed up so much that the Three Factions were all after him?

Well, almost three. The Fallen Angels had yet to make their appearance which sparked a tad bit of confusion in Issei. Maybe they weren't ready yet or perhaps the news hadn't reached them at all?

Shaking his head, Issei knew that should be the last thing on his mind and focused on fleeing the capital, Angels, and Devils so he could safely get back to Earth.

The Devils and Angels were not letting up; they continued to chase him until they were outside of Lilith and in the countryside of the Underworld. The chase had led them to an enormous cliff that seemingly had no bottom.

At this point, Issei's magical reserves and stamina had been completely drained. He couldn't continue any longer. Even with Ddraig's encouragement and boosts, it wasn't enough. As a result, Issei's speed had decreased drastically and he was having a difficult time keeping himself airborne.

Seeing this weakness, Sirzechs once again fired another Ball of Destruction at astonishing speeds towards Issei. Issei heard it and slowly turned his head to see it approaching his position fast. There was nothing Issei could do as he saw the attack inch closer and closer to him. The attack hit him dead on, wounding him and knocking him out of the sky.

Issei spiraled towards the ground at an increasingly fast rate until he hit it at full force, continuing to roll and skid across the dirt until he came to a stop. He laid there on the ground in semi consciousness, fighting to stay awake.

Sirzechs smirked as he saw Issei plummet to the ground and was glad he could finally put a stop to this pathetic goose chase.

He turned to the army of Devils behind him and spoke in a loud, authoritative voice. "Surround him," Sirzechs commanded, "Ensure he cannot escape!"

Doing as they were told, the Devils quickly surrounded Issei, making sure he couldn't flee. The Angels also took this as a cue to surround the boy from the air, so Issei couldn't escape into the sky.

"Alright Sirzy," Serafall chirped "You got him!"

"Finally, that boy was starting to become a nuisance." Ajuka added, rolling his eyes.

Turning to his fellow Maou, Lucifer spoke.

"Now now you two," Sirzechs replied, "Let's focus on what we came here to do" he said, as he slowly fixated on Issei who had yet to get up.

"Agreed" said a soft and gentle voice from above.

The three Maou looked up to see Micheal, the leader of Heaven along with his second in command, Gabriel and his Ace: Irina Shidou.

The two Seraphs and Angel landed gently on the ground to progress the conversation. Micheal and Gabriel stood in front while Irina stood behind them, patiently waiting.

"We need to disregard him as soon as possible." Micheal continued, "Lest we want Azazel or Vali to catch wind of this…"

"Yes, my brother is right. If we are to go through with this and complete our goal we must act now. If Azazel found out about this, he and his Fallen Angels or worse The White Dragon Emperor might declare war on us…" Gabriel continued speaking solemnly.

Realizing that they partially forgot they had a short time to do this, Leviathan and Beelzebub shook their heads and heeded Lucifer and Seraph's words.

"You're right this needs to be taken care of right now or we might not get another chance" Ajuka replied.

A summoning circle then illuminated the battlefield, blinding everyone there in its light. It was blood red in color and bore the Gremory Sigil. In the middle of the circle, a group of Devils emerged and began to walk out of the circle as the light died down.

After that the Maou and Seraphs heard someone.

"It seems we're a little late to the party," a feminine voice said.

The Maou and Seraph open their eyes to see a woman of extreme beauty approach them and who had an uncanny resemblance to Sirzechs. Long crimson hair that went down her back and stopped at her waist. An hourglass figure that many women would die for. Lastly, two sapphire eyes, piercing the hearts of anyone who saw her.

Rias Gremory, heir to the Gremory Household and little sister of Sirzechs Lucifer, approached the leaders along with her peerage. Akeno, her Queen standing right by her side while Kiba, Koneko, Asia, Gasper, Xenovia, and Rossweisse followed behind them.

"Rias," Sirzechs said with a gentle and warm smile on his face, "I'm glad that you were able to make it."

"Of course brother," Rias replied, "I wouldn't miss this for the world."

The Princess of Annihilation then turned her attention to the other Maou and Seraphs present and bowed in respect.

"Greetings Leviathan, Beelzebub, and Lord Micheal. It is fantastic to see you once again."

"Hello Rias," Ajuka began, "You have phenomenal timing-"

"Riiiiiiassssss," Serafall shouted, cutting off her fellow Maou, "it's SO good see you too! Where's Sona, did she come along with you?!"

Shaking her head, Rias replied, "No Leviathan, she was not able to come, she had other duties to attend to."

"Awwww, why not? I want to see her so badly" Serafall childishly pouted.

Everyone there just rolled their eyes and sighed, chalking it up as another one of Serafall's childlike antics.

Akeno chuckled. "Old habits die hard, am I right?" She looked behind her to see the rest of the peerage nodding their heads and agreeing with her.

"Anyways..." Micheal abruptly said, gaining everyone's attention. "Let us finish what we came here to do. We've wasted enough time."

"Yes…" Sirzechs replied with a serious expression, "Let's."

["-rtner!"]

What was that? Did someone say something? He wasn't sure, he wasn't sure of anything at this point. In fact he was only sure of one thing… Pain, he felt pain.

Issei stayed motionless, laying on the ground in a pool of blood that surrounded him. He felt cold, so cold and his skin grew extremely pale from the lack of blood. His once bright and vibrant eyes had lost their allure, almost becoming soulless as he stared at the nothingness. His armor was practically gone, with only fews pieces loosely hanging from his body.

["Partner can you-!"]

After hearing the same voice again, Issei was sure that he wasn't hearing things but someone was actually there, talking to him. He tried to speak but no words came out. Hell, his mouth didn't even move. All that came out was a groaning like noise.

"Uuuggghhh" Issei slurred trying to come to his senses.

["Partner! You're awake, thank goodness! Listen, we don't have much time, you have to get up!"]

Issei tried to speak once again, but only incoherent words and noises escaped his lips.

["I know you're in pain Issei, but we must get up! Whether we decide to fight or flee, neither of those can happen if you don't get your ass up!"]

Finally, an understandable response was heard from the boy.

"No point…" Issei mumbled. "There's no point in trying anymore…"

Did he just hear what he thought Issei said? No point in trying? The Heavenly Dragon was bewildered, why would Issei say that? Determined to find answers, Ddraig pried into Issei, perhaps he could break him out of this funk.

["No point in trying? What the hell kind of excuse is that! You're a dragon Issei! A dragon doesn't quit, he fights for what he believes is right until the bitter end! Where is your damn pride in all of this?! You must-"]

Before Ddraig could continue further in his monologue, The Maou and Seraph started to approach Issei's position and although Ddraig couldn't see them clearly yet, he knew they were dead set on killing his host.

["They're coming… Partner, you have to get up!"]

"Ddraig," Issei softly said, finally able to speak coherently with little difficulty, "I can't-"

[NOW!] Ddraig roared, he was getting tired of this constant complaining and whining. Now wasn't the time for that. Not only did he want to get back at these pitiful excuses for friends and allies, he also didn't want Issei to die. He had grown quite attached to the boy despite only knowing him for a couple years. They had grown exponentially together, both physically and mentally over the course of that time and while his host was a pervert, he wouldn't trade him for any other host in the world. He was his friend. One of the very few beings that Ddraig would consider his friend and it would be a cold day hell before Issei was on the cusp of death and he didn't do anything about it.

Issei widened his eyes, hearing and feeling the thoughts of his longtime companion, he gained back his determination and gripped the dirt below him, trying to get up off the ground. He pushed himself up and fell again and again, but he couldn't push himself up all the way. He gave it one last try, pushing with all his might and almost succeeded until…

"Pathetic…"

BAM

Issei felt a strong kick connect with his face. Knocking the wind out of him, Issei tumbled across the ground for several meters until he stopped at the edge of the cliffside.

From the way he was positioned, Issei could peer into the ravine and saw it had no bottom and seemingly went on forever.

With what little strength he had left, Issei pulled himself away from the cliffside and lifted up his profusely bleeding head to see who kicked him.

With his leg still extended, Sirzechs looked at Issei with lifeless and cold eyes, the eyes of someone who wanted nothing more than to beat him into a bloody pulp.

Seeing the person that he viewed as an older brother for so long, look at him with such disgust and hatred, it made all Issei's emotions flood back into him.

The pain in Issei's heart was insurmountable. He found it difficult to breathe. He whispered a single word, but everyone heard it.

"Why?" Issei rasped out.

Sirzechs didn't reply and continued to look emotionlessly at Issei. The other Maou, Seraphs, Irina, Rias, and her peerage came up from behind and stood by his side giving Issei the same look Sirzechs was giving him.

Seeing them all like this made Issei's heart twist and churn. He asked once again.

"Why? Why are you doing this?"

Once again, no response…

That was the last straw, Issei found his grip and pushed himself up and stood albeit a little wobbly. He focused his sight on Sirzechs and screamed. "WHY?! What is the meaning of this Sirzechs?! What could've I possibly done to deserve this? We just celebrated our victory over Rizevim a couple days ago and we were with each other the entire time! So, tell me, WHAT HAVE I DONE?!"

For a split second, Sirzechs lost his composure at the sound and tone of Issei's voice. It gave off a feeling of helplessness, fear, domination. With haste, he corrected himself and for the first time since the chase began, he spoke to his former soon to be brother-in-law.

"It's quite simple Issei, you've outlived your usefulness and we no longer require your service."

"My… usefulness? What the hell are you talking about?! Why are you making it sound like I was only taken in because…

Going from a loud shout to a faint whisper, Issei widened his eyes as he slowly connected the dots.

Seeing this Ajuka stepped forward along with Serafall and spoke

"Wow, so you're not just a dumb lizard after all. You've finally figured out why you were revived in the first place. Considering you didn't figure that out until now makes me question your intelligence…"

Serafall spoke next and for once had a deadly expression on her face, "We knew about your date with that Fallen Angel whore and Rias decided to see what would happen to you."

Issei's eyes bulged even more, to the point where he felt they would come out of their sockets. "But how did you know I was going to die?! How did you know I would meet my demise by Raynare?! TELL ME!"

A sudden laugh broke Issei's rant and its source came walking forward and stood between Sirzechs and Serafall. Issei knew who it was despite the fact it was not the laugh he was accustomed to hearing from her. It was a cruel and sadistic laugh that only an insane person would use, but when he turned his head, he saw the person he knew was responsible for it.

Rias.

"You think I was there by chance Issei?" She spat his name with such disgust like it was some disease. It only served to make Issei's pain stronger.

"I knew when I first met you that you had a powerful Sacred Gear dwelling within you and I wanted you as my servant. However, I didn't want you to have a choice in the matter since I didn't know how you'd react. Besides, trying to turn an alive human into a Devil can be a nuisance."

Rias then put on a wicked smile and her eyes went wild with insanity.

"I was aware of that bitch of a Fallen Angel in my territory and while I didn't know what her goal was initially, I knew it involved killing you the day of your date with her." So, right before your date, my familiar gave you a flyer that you tucked in your pocket. Is this ringing any bells?"

Issei's pain grew to levels he didn't know existed and struggled to simply think straight as he had a sinking feeling of how this was going to end.

"Ahhh, so you do understand the rest of this story. That's right, when that crow finally killed your worthless ass, the flyer activated and I was summoned so I could reincarnate you and make you my slave."

Issei tilted his head down and stared at the ground, he was on the verge of breaking. Ddraig tried to communicate with Issei but he tuned it out and stood there in silence. He asked one last question.

"But I thought you loved me, Rias" Issei croaked, "You've said it yourself on many occasions how you loved me and how I'm the only one for you."

He looked back up again with watery and bloodshot eyes.

"So, why are you doing this?"

Silence once again dominated the field until Rias broke and laughed hysterically.

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Rias clutched her stomach from the pain of laughing so hard and answered Issei's question.

"You dumbass! I only took you in for your power and potential you possessed. Once I found out you had the Longinus: Boosted Gear, I knew I couldn't let you slip away. I feigned affection towards you so you'd do my bidding without question. I gave you special attention and peeks of my body because you're a pervert who only gives a shit about girl's tits! Me and the rest of my peerage only tolerated you because of your power as the Red Dragon Emperor so we could achieve our goals and keep you in line...

The cracks in Issei's heart got bigger and bigger as tears ran down his face, but nothing could've prepared him for Rias' final statement.

"I will NEVER love you Issei Hyoudou. You are nothing but a pathetic, worthless, perverted loser who deserves nothing but a miserable and lonely death."

That was it, Issei's heart had completely shattered. He became frantic as he looked towards his former friends for somebody, ANYBODY,to stand up for him.

Akeno?

"Ufufufu, looks like the little dragon is finally getting what he deserves, of course this goes without saying, you're no longer my cute kouhai."

Kiba?

"You're not fit to serve our master, she deserves better than a perverted loser who only thinks about breasts."

Koneko?

"Perverted beast… Go die in a hole."

Gasper?

Y-you're very bad Issei! Bad!

Xenovia?

"I don't want to bear the babies of someone who's a weakling. I will find someone who will give me strong babies."

Rossweisse?

"I can't have a wild, perverted beast running around campus and peeking on girls. This ends now."

Irina?

"I can't be childhood friends with a pervert Issei, it's over.

Issei lastly turned to Asia. The person who he took care of when no one else would. The person who he gave a home and family for. The person who he saw as a little sister. Surely, she would come to his defense and stand by his side like she always did.

But when she spoke, his last shred of hope was shattered into nothing.

"I'm sorry Issei, but you aren't strong enough to stay with us. You can't protect Rias or her peerage, let alone me. It's time for you to go."

With the last of his faith stomped on, Issei was beyond devastated and in a state of disarray, he had no idea what to do now.

"It is time Sirzechs" Micheal spoke, "Let us be rid of this dragon filth and move on."

Sirzechs nodded at the Leader of Heaven's advice and looked back towards Issei to finish him. Once and for all…

He started to charge up a powerful Ball of Destruction to fire at the boy and kill him for good.

As Issei saw this, he felt as if time itself froze. While he was standing there he had so many questions that filled his head. Was this the feeling of betrayal? Was this what it was like when all your friends and family turned on you? Issei truly had known none of things outside of Raynare. As he stared at the seemingly frozen Ball of Destruction, he felt an overwhelming sense of deja vu.

Before Issei could come up with darker thoughts, his one true friend spoke to him.

["Finally! I got through! Issei, this is no time to sit here and feel sorry for yourself. We need to fight back!"]

"What's the point Ddraig? I'm not strong enough to take them all on and even if I was, I'm an enemy of the supernatural. I will be hunted until I'm dead…"

Ddraig knew his partner was at his lowest and he needed to play this smart if he wanted to bring back a semblance of confidence and spirit.

["So, this is how you want to go out. All your moments of triumph, failure, and everything in between, you're willing to throw that away and for what? You wanting to quit because things got hard? Is this how you want to meet your end Issei? After everything you've been through? Dying at the hands of your "allies" and didn't even do anything about it. Death is an escape Issei, you're the Red Dragon Emperor, not a coward. Only a coward accepts death."]

With his dragon instincts kicking in, Issei's hands balled into a fist as he felt a surge of rage. Not at Ddraig, hell not even at his 'friends', but at himself. How could he have become so soft and frail that he now bends over to everyone's will? He wasn't some worthless tool to be thrown around. No, he was the Red Dragon Emperor and he would be damned if he just stood there and conceded. Ddraig was right, it was time to take a stand against his enemies. It was time to fight back with everything he had, even if he died trying.

"DESTRUCTION!"

Time unfroze and Sirzechs' shouted as the attack seemed to teleport to Issei. The attack hit him head on, resulting in a huge explosion rising a huge amount of dirt and dust into the air. He smirked at this, knowing he completely incinerated Issei. There was no way he could've dodged it and it was far too powerful for him to bluntly take.

He turned around, facing the others and spoke.

"Our work here is done. Let's go home."

Everyone nodded, and walked away from the spot Issei was hit which still had a cloud of dirt and dust surrounding it. They were about to teleport away via a summoning circle until they heard a voice.

"So… This is what I get? After everything I've done?"

The group stopped dead in their tracks, their eyes widening. There was no way he survived that. It was impossible, he took a Ball of Destruction from several meters away!

The group slowly turned around, looking into the cloud of dirt and dust that was still very opaque.

But as the dust started to clear, they saw a shadowy figure standing in the middle of it.

As the dust settled, everyone saw the person they thought Sirzechs had killed.

Issei stood tall, seemingly unfazed by Sirzechs' attack as all his previous injuries healed themselves. He looked at the group with an unreadable expression on his face.

Rias was the most surprised of them all. She didn't think Issei would withstand the blow from her brother. She didn't waste any time when she shrieked.

WHAT?! HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? YOU SHOULD BE DEAD RIGHT NOW!"

She then turned to her brother, lowering her volume but no less hysterical.

"What are you waiting for Sirzechs?! Fire at him again!"

Startled by his sister's sudden outburst, Sirzechs put his attention back on Issei and fired another Ball of Destruction at neck breaking speed.

This time Issei dodged it by doing a sideways flip, resulting in the attack flying past him and into the sky.

Sirzechs was beyond baffled. How could Issei get away with his attack not once, but twice?!

The others held similar feelings to that of Sirzechs. How could Issei do this? While he was able to go toe to toe with Rizevim for a short period of time, he never was able to do this before.

Before they had a chance to think about it further, Issei broke the silence.

"After everything I've done for you, you're going to just cast me aside? Throw me out and move along to your next victim?! I refuse this to be the end of me. I won't accept it!"

Everyone there started to get extremely nervous. Issei and Ddraig's voice combined, making Issei's aura and dominating voice skyrocket.

"You've all made the biggest mistake of your lives. I'll fight you, I'll fight all of you until my last breath! I'm not some random being.

I'm Issei Hyoudou.

The Dragon of Domination.

THE RED DRAGON EMPEROR!"

["WELSH DRAGON BALANCE BREAKER!"]

Issei's aura exploded, becoming a swirling spiral touching the skies of Hell as he donned the armor of his balance breaker.

The army of Devils and Angels didn't stand a chance. All of the Devils were instantly killed from coming into contact with Issei's aura. Most of the Angels died as well. But a few of the stronger Angels barely held on due to their resistance to demonic magic which Issei's dragonic magic was slightly tainted with.

Issei was quick to correct it.

He unraveled his wings and took to the skies and unleashed his aura once again and eliminated the rest of the Angels with no difficulty. The only remaining survivors now were the Maou, Seraphs, Irina, Rias, and her peerage.

"ROOOOOOAAAAARRRR!"

Issei's roar thundered across the sky and caused a mini earthquake to occur.

He looked down towards his enemies with such fury and hatred that the Angels and Devils could feel it radiating off the dragon.

They weren't sure of many things but knew one thing for sure.

He was coming for them…

"RIIIIIIIIAASSSSSSSSSSS."

Sirzechs and the rest of the Maou and Seraphs were quick to act.

"Everyone! Get ready," Sirzechs ordered," This will be a difficult fight!

Wasting no time, the leaders took the forefront while the rest stood behind them ready to provide support from the rear and to flank their opponent.

Issei torpedoed towards his targets at unimaginable speeds and cocked his fist, prepared to engage.

Everyone there was nervous, mostly the younger fighters, but determined to see it through to the end, they stood their ground, ready to fight their former comrade. Their former friend. Their former family.

Issei Hyoudou.
