Christmas Alone
Draco watched as the snow fell silently out the window, its descent, swift but soft. The utter silence was only broken by the laughter coming from the room. His housemates in Christmas cheer, getting ready for the feast. Their shinning cheery faces did nothing to lighten his mood or gaunt expression. All he wished for was to be alone.
The jovial crowd began to head for the great hall, "Hey, Draco, come on! Were going!" yelled Pansy across the room.
Contrary to popular belief the house mates were not heartless cold beings who went around torturing everything, most of them were ok people… just a little morally challenged. Draco sighed, Pansy would have her way.
They trekked to the Great Hall, Basil and Pansy chatting, other slythrines listening or talking, and Crabbie and Goyle trailing behind Draco, more out of habit than as a conscious decision. They had their own sort of grunting conversation. Draco was the only one who did not speak; he was with them but not actually there.
The Great Hall was brightly lit and the students were milling around in their own happy chorus of chatter. They were all happy, and the feast was merry and delicious. As it was many of the older students where staying after for the dance. Usually it would be started out by the perfects, head boy, head girl, and their partners, and Draco should have joined them, but he chose that time to conveniently "disappear".
As he began to walk about the grounds, the bushes with fairylights and magical paths created where there had been none before, the visiting band struck up a slow tune. The snow swirled about when there was a breeze, and fell straight down without one; it was like rain, but it remained silent. Draco moved patiently through the light fluff, walking around gazing at the dreary scenery forbidden forest created in the background.
Time past, dances came and went, like the flakes of snow. Draco found shelter beside a pine tree put up for the occasion, its bows heavy with the white powder. That's when they came. Their cheery laughter disrupted Draco's silent reverie.
"Ron, I wish you could have seen the expression on your face, I feel sorry about what happened, but I can't help laughing!" Granger said, her voice lightened with laughter.
"I know, and the pie!" came in Potter.
"Stop teasing," Weasley said with a bit of a pout, "but… it was pretty funny!" he came back in with a bit of a smirk.
Soon the trio was dissolved into a hearty fit of laughter.
The tight nit group continued on it's mostly jolly conversation as they aired out on the cool grounds; their faces where all light, color, and laughter. Soon they disappeared in the same manner they had came, and just as quickly.
There was one word to describe Draco's mood as he watched them, jealousy.
Why? Because he knew he would wake up tomorrow alone, and open his gifts alone, and go to breakfast alone, and brood alone, and when classes start he would be in them alone, even in a crowded room or a busy hallway, he would still be alone. He would always be alone.
He hated the trio with a passion because they were not.
Draco secretly hated himself because he meant to spend Christmas alone.
A/N: this is a long story made short (aka I meant for it to be long, but it made a better short story anyway) sorry if it's confusing. I don't really know what inspired me to write this, but I like it (even if it didn't go the way I intended it to). Sorry if I miss-spelt stuff.
