Summery: When snowflakes fall like forgotten memories....
He sat on the cold rocks and idly watched the dull gray ocean thrash around, crashing loudly into the beach by his feet. The ominous gray clouds overhead threatened to unleash a volley of snowflakes, and the crisp air was sharp and cold. It was August eighth, 1974, but instead of celebrating his 21st birthday, Doctor Samuel Beckett was quietly observing southern New Zealand's coast, waiting for Al to return with some more information regarding his latest Leap.
A slight wind blew, tousling Sam's longish brown hair and sending shivers down his spine. His compelling green eyes stared ahead vacantly at the despondent gray scenery, searching through his Swiss-cheesed memory. He vaguely remembered his last birthday before he'd first Leaped. The senior project staff had taken him out to dinner in Albuquerque. Everyone was there: Al, Tina, Verbena, Gooshie, Beth, and…and…damn! Why couldn't he remember? He knew there was someone else there. Someone who was very important to him. So why couldn't he remember who it was? In the deepest hollows of his battered brain, Sam recalled a slight face with flowing brown hair. But the rest remained unknown, an obscured shadow of his fragmented memory.
The tumultuous vision passed, and a single flake of snow fluttered down from the gray heavens above, landing dejectedly on the jagged landscape below, like a castaway memory.
