I had this sudden idea pop into my head this morning so I came home and
wrote it down. This is just a short stand alone fic that it kind of cute.
It involves Abby telling her daughter a story before bed. You don't know
who the father is until a little bit into the story, so it's sort of a
surprise (but not really). Hope you enjoy. Please review.

"Mommy, how did you and daddy meet?"
"You know the story, honey, I've told you a million times."
"I know, but I want to hear it again."
"We met at the hospital."
"Come on Mommy, I want to hear the whole story."
"Fine. I used to be a nurse and help with babies, but then I was going to become a doctor, but decided I just wanted to be a nurse and when I became a nurse again, that was when I met your father."
"Did you always love him?"
"Well not really."
"Why not?"
"I didn't know him that well."
"He always says he always loved you."
"I know." Abby smiled.
"Then why didn't you love him?"
"Daddy got hurt and then was very sick and when he was getting better, that was when we became friends."
"Like me and Jamie?"
"Yes, just like you and Jamie."
"Then what happened?"
"I'm getting there. You are so impatient tonight! Well then I thought I was in love with someone else."
"Uncle Luka?"
"Who told you that?"
"Aunt Susan."
"Oh did she?"
"Yes. She said that she used to like Daddy and that you liked Uncle Luka."
"Well that's right, I guess. So then things didn't work out with Uncle Luka and I realized that I really liked your dad."
"Is that when you got married?"
"No, because he thought I still loved Uncle Luka so that's when he went out with Aunt Susan."
"Oh."
"But the best part of the story is coming. Things didn't work out with him and Aunt Susan and then we both realized we were being silly and got together."
"I like this part of the story."
"Me too."
"So then did you get married?"
"No, not yet. About a year after we fell in love, your daddy bought a ring and was going to ask me to marry him, but when I was on my way back to our house, I got into an accident and was in the hospital for a week."
"Were you okay?"
"Yes, but your daddy was very scared, so as soon as I got out of the hospital, he asked me to marry him and six months later we were. Then a little bit after that I found out I was going to have you and your daddy was very happy and I was too. And then we had you and you were this perfect little beautiful baby and we named you Lucy because of Mommy and Daddy's friend who died." Abby looked down and noticed the small girl in her arms had fallen asleep towards the end of the story. She smiled and kissed her forehead before picking her up and setting her in her bed. The toddler had just recently moved from a crib to a "big girl" bed and Abby was still getting used to her baby growing up so quickly. As she tucked her daughter in, Abby smiled then started to walk out of the room. She turned around and stopped in her tracks. Her husband was standing in the doorway gazing at her. Abby smiled and walked towards him.
"Did you tell her yet?"
"No, I thought we should do it together. How was your shift?"
"It would have been better if you were there." John pulled her into a hug and kissed her on the lips.
"I got a call from my mother today."
"Really? How is she?"
"She sounded good. She's going to come visit after the baby's born."
"I take it we're telling people then."
"Yeah. I guess we are." Abby smiled. "I love you."
"I love you too. Always."
