A Rose Between Thorns
Kristenelle walked along the pavement, the ends of her long jeans scuffing the hard concrete, fraying and getting torn. She was on her way to hang with the boys. Her mother didn't like her hanging around with the boys day after day. She wanted Kristenelle to hang out with girls, and develop an interest in make up and dresses. But, all Kristenelle wanted to do was hang around, play football, skate and be a boy. But the only trouble was, she wasn't a normal child. She was a witch. Being 14 she was just about to start her 4th year at Hogwarts. She loved that place, but there were no football pitches, no skate ramps. Just a Quidditch Pitch and Hogsmeade. Well, there was Brett. Brett, was Kristenelle's boyfriend. The only boy she had ever had feelings for. The only boy she had ever loved. He was a wizard; they met on the Hogwarts Express. And it had been love at first sight. "Hey Kris'! Coming to play footie?" That was Tom, the guy had had a crush on her for ages. She'd known Tom since she was four. They were really good friends. You'd have to be good friends to have run around each others gardens nakey, and not tell anyone. But Kris didn't love him. She cared about him, sure, he meant a lot to her, but she just didn't love him. "Yep, wouldn't miss it for the world. Is Jake playing with Lane?" Kris asked. "I think so, why?" Tom prodded, just making sure she didn't fancy either of them. "'Cos. I wanna know if Lane is bringing Toni or not." She replied. "That girl is the only decent girl around this place. The only one who doesn't have an obsession with make-up and dresses. I suppose you could say she's the only girl. like me." They walked onwards, not saying much. Then all of a sudden, Kris's mobile began to ring. She pulled in out of her pocket and looked at the screen. It was Brett. "You go one ahead, I'll meet you there." She said to Tom. "Hi Brett." She listened intently; a smile began to spread across her face. "Yeah sure. Second from the back." She listened some more and then frowned. "Gary! No way! I'd rather sit with a toad on my lap! Yeah whatever, I have to go. Bye" Kris was furious with Brett. He wanted them to sit with a complete creep. Gary O'Neil. He tried to come on to her last year. She told Brett about it. And he had temporarily moved Gary off of his friend list. But it seemed he was back in her boyfriends good books.
