Prologue

Stumbling through Mirkwood came a lone figure, clutching a tiny bundle. She tugged frantically, panicking as her dress caught on a bramble bush. Ever silent, a figure shrouded in shadows crept upon her.

"No.I won't let him find you. You'll be safe with their Majesties.if I can get you there in time. And you won't grow up alone, Autumn."

Ripping her dress free, the young mother ran on. The darkening shadow moved faster, slowly catching up to his young daughter and her mother. The bundle stirred, waking, but did not cry out.

Stumbling, the mother lost her grip and the bundle was set flying. It landed gently on a low branch in a redwood. The figure, finally catching up,pulled Tirna off the ground.

"Tirna, where is she?" The hood slid back revealing the face of one of the most feared people in Middle-Earth; Sauron.

"You'll not find her. She is lost to you forever." Tirna's voice trembled, as did her body, but she did not look for her baby.

"She has my blood. Eventually, it will lead her to me or me to her. But you.You shall never see her again."

That was the last Tirna heard. Her death was quick, and after he finished Sauron returned to Mordor.

A few hours later, another young mother was strolling through Mirkwood. Upon hearing an infant's cry, she hurried toward it. A gasp of horror escaped her lips at the site of Tirna's mutilated body. She closed her eyes, thinking what would have happened to her son had she been in Tirna's place.

Another cry brought her eyes open with a start. Her sparkling gray eyes landed on a bundle wrapped in forest green cloth, almost impossible to see in the redwood. Picking it up, she discovered a tiny girl wrapped in tattered blankets.

"You must be her child. You can't be more than four seasons old, poor thing."

She spoke soothingly, trying to comfort the infant. As the young queen and mother cradled a new infant, she looked into the tiny face. Her gray eyes were met with sparking emerald green ones and she smiled, knowing well who this tiny girl was.

"Only one has those gorgeous eyes. You must be Tirna's daughter. Autumn by name, summer by sight. You shall have a home with the King and I, as well as with our son, Legolas."
