Title: Behind the Shadows (Companion to "Beyond Protocol")
Author's E-mail: Amandab9@aol.com
Shipper: Vaughn wants Sydney Syd/Will friendship
Spoilers: Cipher
Chapters: SHORT 1/1, but hey I also said that last time. If I get enough feedback and another push from my muse. you never know.
Type: Dark reflective
Disclaimer: Nope, still don't own 'em. Not yet anyway.
Summary: What is Vaughn thinking about as he watches Sydney and Will from behind the glass in Cipher.
Dedication: GataFairy and Jade asked for a Will POV after "Beyond Protocol"
Note 1: Don't need to have "Beyond Protocol" for this.
Note 3: Had a tough day and this turned out a little more dark and desperate than I originally intended and more than "Beyond Protocol" was.
Note 3: I use pronouns and choppy sentences a lot as part of my writing style. If you can not figure out who I mean, you shouldn't be reading this.
Feedback: Yes please!
Vaughn's POV:
She runs out of the room to see him.
Runs away from me to him.
Not that she knows she's doing it. Or would stop herself even if she did. He's been put though something very tough for him - recalling what is probably one of his worst memories to explicated details - and so she should comfort him.
You may think that this logic would help. It doesn't.
I watch behind a glass wall as Sydney and Will talk. It started out with a comforting 'how are you' but had evolved to Francie's restaurant before I turned them out. Listening would only make me more jealous.
Will can take Sydney to Francie's restaurant. They could go at the same time, sit at the same table, look each other in the eyes when they talk, and do it all in public. The only time I am aloud this too rare privilege is for work. We stay behind the shadows and talk of CIA affairs, the evils of SD-6, worry over Dixon, Sydney's mother, and sometimes Sydney's life outside all of this.
Times like this I wonder if Will realizes how lucky he is. He gets to know the truth about Sydney now and still be with her outside in the sunlight. Outside the shadows.
What I wouldn't give to trade places with him for one day. One hour even. Any amount of time with Sydney is always pure joy and it could only be better when you don't need to talk about what we always have to. To imagine doing this with the sunlight streaming down my face is almost too much to bear.
I wish I could actually do any of these things. Or be able to give her the simple reassuring thank you friendship hug Will just did.
But I can't. That is more than beyond protocol; it is downright dangerous.
The only thing I can do is watch from behind the shadows and attempt to pretend it isn't killing me in the process.
