The Proposal

Author's notes: Slayers is not mine. Do not attempt to sue me. All you will get is a useless organic chemistry book and study guide. This story is mine, though, so don't rip it off. Reviews are welcomed; flames will be used to make s'mores.

Rated: PG for Zelgadis thinking one slightly bad thing.

Zelgadis couldn't believe it. He was going to Lina and Gourry for advice. But he needed their advice. He was going to propose to Amelia, and in all honesty, he had no clue how to propose.

The first thing that Lina asked him was whether or not he had the ring. After all, that was the first thing.

Of course, Zelgadis had the ring. It was made of gold and had several small diamonds and a bright blue sapphire in it. The diamonds formed a star around the sapphire. Zelgadis figured that it was perfect for Amelia, especially since the sapphire was the color of her eyes.

Lina told him to tell Amelia exactly how he felt for her. He should tell her how important she was to him. Then, he should ask the question. Lina also advised Zelgadis to practice a few times so that the whole proposal would sound natural.

"After all, Jellyfish-For-Brains over here didn't practice his proposal enough and nearly blew it," Lina commented under her breath.

"But I did practice! It's not my fault my brain has a leak," Gourry retorted.

"We know that, Gourry," Lina sighed.

Zelgadis excused himself. Besides, it was Lina and Gourry's snack time. They were getting cranky, and he heard their stomachs growl.

Zelgadis went to the general store and bought a pen and paper. He had a proposal to write. And he did write a proposal. A beautiful one at that.

But he forgot one thing. He didn't practice his proposal like he was supposed to. He thought his memory was good enough that he didn't need to practice. It was only when he was at the palace gates requesting to see Princess Amelia that he realized that he had forgotten the proposal. The whole proposal.

"Crap!" Zelgadis thought to himself, "Now I'm going to make a fool out of myself. I guess Lina is right. I do have rocks for brains."

When Amelia entered the guest room where Zelgadis was, she had a big smile on her face. It wasn't often that she got visitors, so this was a nice surprise for her.

Zelgadis immediately began blushing up a storm. His face looked like a turnip with the chicken pox. "Ummm... Amelia? There's something I want to ask you. You know that I have feelings for you. And uh, I was wondering if you wanted to... No wait. That's not how I want to ask it."

"I can't give you an answer if I don't have a question, Zelgadis-san. I can't read your mind, so ask away."

Zelgadis started blushing even harder. Amelia was shocked at the strange coloration of his face. She felt sorry for her friend who was very embarrassed. Finally, Zelgadis asked the question. He forgot to say everything else in his haste and embarrassment. He got down on one knee, pulled out the ring box, and asked "Amelia Wil Tesla Seyruun, will you marry me?"

"Of course I will!" Amelia said excitedly as she pulled the ring out. "Oh, Zelgadis-chan! It's beautiful. And it fits perfectly!"

Zelgadis began grinning like an idiot.

"Come on, Zelgadis-chan! What are you waiting for? We have to go tell Daddy! I'm sure that he will be thrilled." Amelia cried out.

So the two found Phil in his office. They told him the good news. He was extremely happy for Amelia. After all, a marriage should be about love, not politics. He had married for love and never regretted it. Phil then started to tell the story of his proposal and wedding. Zelgadis and Amelia looked at each other, knowing that they would be there for a long time, as Phil loved putting in lots of details.

An hour and a half later, Phil finished his story. The three then began initial preparations for the wedding. They also told Christopher, who was very happy for his niece.
