Note: Thankfully, they don't belong to me, I'm just borrowing them. Don't sue me, I'm poor :).

Lucy sat on the bench in the Glen Oak Police Station with a warm blanket wrapped around her soaking wet body. How had she ended up here? It had become blurry to her after a while of sitting there listening to the voices around her fade in and fade out.

Oh, that's right, Kevin. Her husband, Kevin. The man who she at one time wanted to spend the rest of her life with, Kevin.

How had she let it go this far? It started when he first moved into her parent's home. It started with 'harmless' little threats. They were in good fun, right? He was just kidding. Maybe then. Maybe at one time, he was joking. She wasn't sure when it had switched gears.

One night he came home from work. She hadn't cooked him dinner. Or maybe she didn't wash his work shirt for the next day? It was coming all foggy. He apologized over and over after that one time. It'll never happen again.

It'll never happen again. It was only supposed to be that once. She wasn't supposed to make anymore mistakes and it would never happen again. He would never punch her again. Never again would he leave her lip fat and bloody from when his hand made contact with it. Never again?

How did she explain it away? She tripped and fell down the stairs. She banged into a door. She had used so many excuses since that night, she had forgotten. She banged her arm on a door frame. She fell out of bed. It was only supposed to be that once.

Her thoughts were flooding in. She kept asking herself how and why. Was she not a good enough wife? Why did it have to come to this? Sitting in a Police station after running away from her husband. It wasn't supposed to end up like this. It was supposed to be happily ever after.

"Mrs. Kinkirk, please come with me. Your husband is here to pick you up."
