Last Chance
By: Mellow Starz

He is young. His cold eyes stare at the distance, focused on the straight horizon. He smirks at the thought of realizing his dark ambitions; to reach a new level in his ever-rising strength, and being master of the universe. What else could be more important..?

He is an adult. His dark eyes look at a different scenery, yet the same horizon. He was proud and confident. His mind focused on his greedy dreams, thinking of all the power waiting for him, just lying a little beyond the horizon...

Almost there...

One afternoon. He was entaged and deceptioned. How could this happen? His childhood dreams were stolen from him. He worked so hard, tried so much, but failed miserably. That damned fool had no right! He was a prince! He could not be humiliated this way!

He looked at the distance; the sunset. Slowly, he saw his dreams vanish one by one; his kingdom, rising to be the strongest person in the universe... what did he have left? He analized himself, and how life had been so cruel to him. It wasn't his fault he grew up so fast... he didn't get a chance to decide for himself the kind of person he wanted to be.

He was horrified.

Horrified when he realized what he became; a machine. All this time he had been holding on to a legend; a dream. Or maybe a part of his missing childhood...

He gasped in shock and terror. His life had gone by so fast... he looked around, and found himself falling into a horrible reality.

He was alone.

All this time, he had been alone. How could he still be living when his heart was frozen?

Alone, with a heart of ice, his dreams usurped. Alone... no hope at all...

For the first time in many years, he felt tears streaming down his face. He was shocked at the painful reality, but found himself an escape route. Slowly, he led his hand to his face. He looked at the horizon and smiled for the first time in years also, as his puzzled mind was intrigued by this moment. He cried! Maybe... just maybe... life had given him a second chance. Afterall, he had shed tears, hadn't he? He felt the beating of his heart again.

Maybe those tears... had come from the ice melting in his heart.
