I Miss My Friend

By:  Jason Adams

Katherine Hillard-Oliver was getting ready to do some housecleaning.  No, she wasn't doing the usual chores.  She was getting ready to remove Tommy's stuff from the house.  Her late husband, Tommy Oliver.  Ever since they left the Power Rangers and gone their separate ways, Katherine (or Kat as most people called her) had been inseparable from Tommy.  Two years after leaving the Rangers, she and Tommy finally tied the knot.

They had been married for six years when tragedy struck.  Two weeks ago Tommy, a professional racecar driver, had crashed into a wall during a race.  He had been killed instantly.  It had been a week since his funeral and Kat was still grieving.  She probably would for the rest of her life.

Kat was moving some of her husband's stuff from the bedroom when a picture frame fell on the floor.  She put the box down and picked up the picture frame and discovered something.  It was a picture of her and Tommy on their wedding day.  She sat down on the couch, stared at the picture, and shed a tear.

She put the picture down and turned on the radio.  "I could use some music while I work," she thought to herself.  She began to tune the radio at random, searching for no particular station.  After about fifteen seconds, she stopped.  She walked back into the bedroom and began putting clothes in a box.  She walked into the living room and put the box on the coffee table.  She then heard the dj say, "By request, here's Daryl Worley with, "I Miss My Friend."  She was just about to reenter the bedroom, when she heard:

I miss the look Of surrender in your eyes The way your soft brown hair would fall

Kat walked back into the living room and started to listen.

I miss the power Of your kiss when we made love Oh, but baby most of all I miss my friend The one my heart and soul confided in The one I felt the safest with The one who knew just what to say To make me laugh again And let the light back in I miss my friend

Kat sat down on the couch open-mouthed.  This song explained the grief she was feeling to a T!  She picked up the picture of her and Tommy and looked at it.  The song continued to play.

I miss the colors That you brought into my life Your golden smile, those blue-green eyes And I miss your gentle voice In lonely times like now Saying "It'll be alright" I miss my friend The one my heart and soul confided in The one I felt the safest with The one who knew just what to say To make me laugh again And let the light back in I miss my friend

Kat began to let the tears fall near the end of the chorus.

I miss those times I miss those nights I even miss our silly fights The makin' up

The mornin' talks

And those late afternoon walks

I miss my friend

The one my heart and soul confided in The one I felt the safest with The one who knew just what to say To make me laugh again And let the light back in I miss my friend

While crying, Kat then ad-libbed the next line:

I miss my friend I miss my friend

 I miss my friend

Kat held the picture to her chest.  "I miss you, Tommy," she said crying.  "I miss my friend."
