Chapter 1
Cassie just rushed out of the school. She had been called to the office because her mother was in the hospital. She and Adam had broke up the night before, and she wads tired and grumpy.
Cassie checked in at the front desk at the hospital. The person told her that her mother was in room 139. Cassie raced up to the room, and was just in time to see her mother die in her arms. The doctor told her that they couldn't find the cause, as she got hysterical.
Tears streamed down her face as she made her way to Diana's house. She needed someone right now, and Cassie knew Adam wasn't going to be there for me. They had a fight last night when he broke up with me, and wouldn't be around if possible.
She ran to Diana's arms as she came in the door. School was out and most of the cloven was there or was coming.
"She's dead, she's dead," Cassie finally managed to spit out.
" Shhh.. Cassie calm down, now tell me who," Diana said.
"My... mom... she's... dead," she said between sobs.
"Where's Adam?" Diana asked.
She didn't know yet, that they broke up. Cassie had stayed home last night, and avoided the circle that day. It was easy because she stayed to work on a history project at lunch.
" We broke up last night," Cassie whispered.
"Oh" Diana said.
" I wasn't like before, no silver cord, and we eventually grew apart. Last night we broke up," Cassie explained.
Cassie sat on the couch, and was startled to see Nick sitting beside her. She hadn't noticed him before.
A few more tears sliding down her face, and Nick leaned over and held her close.
A few minuets later Chis and Doug came in followed by Deb, and Suzan. People from the circle keep arriving until everyone was there, except for Adam. Big surprise there, thought Cassie.
A half a hour later Adam showed up, and ended up starring into Nick's cold eyes. Anyone who wasn't blind could tell he was pissed.
"What happened?" He asked.
" In case you haven't noticed, Cassie's mother just died, and you were away being the bastard that you are. You had nerve to show up at all," Nick said in a low icy voice.
" I had no idea, I'm sorry Cassie," Adam said.
" I know you could have felt it if she was upset, you should go now," Nick said.
Adam left not wanting to get in a fight and went to sit beside Cassie again. Cassie crawled up in his arms and fell asleep. Nick watched over her with a protective gleam in his eyes.
