Chapter – 3
'Bold' Jon Roxton 127 AC
The crowd of Kingslanding have gathered in large numbers to watch the executions of the criminals who were apprehended for running the child fighting in flea bottom. As the commander of the city watch, Amos Bracken rounded up the criminals and the order of the dragon knights consolidated all the children and returned some of them to their parents. Prince Aegon has sent many of the ruffians to the wall before removing the heads of the merchants and the corrupt gold captains who turned a blind eye to the atrocious act.
Prince Aemond the dragonknight sent some of these orphans to the orphanage in oldtown as the motherhouses and orphanages of Kingslanding were close to bursting. The knightly order have taken some of the older boys to serve as pages, and squires for the knights in the order.
Ser Perkin 'the flea' was tasked with escorting the identified children to their parents, as the Prince flew to the castle from urgent summoning from the hand. The Prince personally ordered Ser Tyler Norcross to deliver his own squire Trystane safely to Lord Borros Baratheon at Storms End.
A lot of rumors have filled the capital since prince Aegon have taken the strange boy from flea bottom as a squire, some say that the boy is the bastard son of King Viserys and Aegon took his half-brother under his protection to save him from Princess Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon.
These rumors have increased since Aegon was heard fondly addressing the boy 'Truefyre', much to the chagrin of Princess Rhaenyra. Even the king was enraged with these rumors, though the boy had a Valyrian look to him, same as Ser Ulf the White, and Ser Hugh the Hammer.
Several of former goldcloaks loyal to prince Daemon were executed or sent to the wall, a brute of a gold cloak captain named Ser Luthor Largent challenged Prince Aegon for a trial by combat to prove his innocence but it was Aemond the Dragon knight who accepted the challenge and ripped the large man in two pieces using Red Rain.
The brothel keeper Mysaria, known as the 'white worm' was whipped and forced to walk the streets of Kingslanding naked on the charges of poisoning the king's fool Mushroom and the Queen Alicent's serving girl, Talia. The former whore was found dead near cobblers square after being pelted by some of the devout followers of the faith.
It was said that Prince Aegon promised the high septon that incest will no longer be allowed or tolerated in the Targaryan royal family as it had led to Tyrants such as Maegor the Cruel and Prince Daemon. This was proved when, King Viserys was announced the betrothal of Princess Helaena 'the Dreamer' to Ser Torrhen Manderly, securing the Crown's alliance with a major house of the North. The Princess who was rumored to be a prophetic dreamer wed Ser Torrhen in White Harbour's sept with little fanfare.
Prince Aegon and Aemond flew Sunfyre and Vhagar to Casterly Rock last year to speak with the Lord and Lady of Casterly Rock. The trip ended suddenly with Prince Aegon flying to Essos with some ships of the Lannister fleet and Prince Aemond's trip to the Stormlands. Nobody knew what has transpired in the Rock but several moons later, the Lannister fleet returned with Aegon and Sunfyre bringing more ships along with buying and freeing 2000 Unsullied soldiers from Asthapoor.
These eunuch soldiers were immediately disliked by the Westerosi, but once some of them assumed their duties as protectors of Septs and motherhouses, the High Septon recognized their skill in repelling bandits and declared them as free men and protectors of the faith. The Prince brought 500 of these soldiers to Kingslanding to bolster the red keep and the Knightly order.
Jon himself felt sorry for the eunuch's who were cut at a young age and forced to serve the cruel masters who did not even name them properly. Even he could not deny the discipline and advantages these lanced foot soldiers offer to any army. It was said that Prince Daemon laughed and mocked Aegon and his mother, saying even skilled eunuch's are no match for a dragon.
Prince Aegon's reputation as a great warrior and a pious prince who donated coin and food freely to septs and the poor from Kingslanding to the dornish marches has made him the people's faavourite. There are rumours that people hail him as King Aegon the Just wherever he goes, causing more friction with Rhaenyra's faction.
Rhaenyra and scrambled to hold a tourney with the lords of the narrow sea to push her son's claims but refrained anyone from the order of the dragon knights to participate. Still, prince Aegon showed up with his personal guard riding Sunfyre to Dragonstone and goaded Rhaenyra into allowing him to participate.
An epic Melee took place where Aegon defeated Jacayrs Velaryon, Stephan Darkling, Rickard Thorne, and finally faced off with his uncle Daemon Targaryan, who people swore tried to cripple or kill the Prince. Dark Sister and Red Rain clashed again and again till both men fought tooth and nail to outdo one another. But it was the dragon prince, who used lightening fast punches, flying kicks to the temple, no doubt he learned from his Leng'hi protector and used an advanced submission hold to break the rogue Prince's right hand and forced him to yield.
All the lords were stunned by the Dragon knights prowess beating the much older and skilled Daemon, especially Rhaenyra who tried to have Aegon arrested for hurting her husband to which the Dragon knight smiled and replied "Real men would not be sore losers and blame the victor's superior skill in a fair fight" further goading Daemon to acknowledge his loss. The pride of the black faction was hurt that day and the enmity between sister and stepbrother further worsened.
Aegon even dedicated his win to Princess Baela and Rhaena, much to the seething of Prince Jacayrs and Prince Luceyrs. There was a time in the fight where Sunfyre and Caraxys took to the skies and spat golden and red fire circling each other though neither fought directly.
The Prince took a trip to Dorne and met with House Dayne, where he met with Qoren Martell of Sunspear and discussed a pact to hold hostilities in the Step Stones. Many speculated that the prince advocated peace as he went alone into the castle unarmed and left Sunfyre to guard his procession outside Starfall. Rumor has it that the prince sparred with the new Sword of the Morning, Davos Dayne and dance with lady Alyria Dayne, winning over Qoren Martell with his charm and negotiated a marriage proposal with the Prince of Dorne.
King Viserys raged and condemned this act, as Aegon as neither acting on behalf of the crown nor he a Crown Prince to give such promises. The hand and Queen Alicent convinced the King from exiling the Prince to Essos after an angry princess Rhaenyra tried to rally the small councel to exile Prince Aegon. With great reluctance, Viserys had agreed to let the prince build a castle near the Dornish Marches called 'Summerhall', though most of the coin flowed through the reach and the Westerlands. There have been reports from the Iron Isles that three ironborn ships were torched in the blackwater bay with no survivors left to say which dragonrider attacked them.
Princess Rhaenyra was quick to shift blame to Aegon and Sunfyre, saying that the zealot Prince is punishing the disciples of the drowned god. Lord Dalton Greyjoy sent warnings to Kingslanding, and threatened dire consequences if any more Ironborn are threatened. The Prince denied the charges and accused Prince Daemon as the instigator of these attacks. Jon knew both Aegon and Aemond hated the Ironborn, same as Lord Lannister and Lord Tully, but it is difficult to say the princes are behind the attacks, only time will tell what will happen as more lords agreed with Prince Aegon on the matter.
Alicent Hightower 127 AC
Her son's antics had been worrying the Queen since the time Aegon recovered from his injury all those years ago. Sure, he has become a renowned warrior and a just knight but his antics are still childlike whenever he does not get things his way. Aegon convinced her of Helaena's match with the Manderly's for their naval support, even though she knew Aegon was the one spreading rumors that Helaena's strange rantings are prophetic visions. Almost immediately Viserys started caring about Helaena, asking her all matters of questions about prophecy.
She felt that Aegon always travels the realm just to escape her mothering, he told her multiple times he has a plan to defeat the blacks but that boy always drives her madder with his bizarre behavior. It started with his conflict with house Drumm regarding that Sword. She could not understand why he wants a Valyrian steel sword, when Blackfyre should rightfully belong to him.
Then the beginning of his Order of the dragon Knights, which helped in removal of prince Daemon's thugs from the city watch. Yet, the unsullied he freed, the dragon seeds who have dragons of their own, the lies about the people besmirching Rhaenyra's reputation was too much. Aegon's behavior cost her maid Talya, the brothel owner Mysaria, and the king's fool Mushroon his life. Now her son was after Dalton Greyjoy and the conflict with the Iron Islands could start a war.
Her son had the gall to ask her to agree to a marriage with lord Dayne's daughter Allaria, which almost stopped Viserys's heart and almost got Aegon exiled. It was a nightmare to convince Viserys to forgive Aegon and agree to make him lord of a new castle. Then her son had that Trystane boy paraded as Viserys' bastard son, bringing dishonor to both her and Viserys. She almost wanted to choke her son for that disrespect, but knew that Aegon had planned this to further destabilize the support for Rhaenyra.
Atleast her son had good connections with the faith, but he should get married as soon as possible but everytime she brings up lady Jeyne Arryn, Aegon only bristles and tells her an Essosi match suits him better. Aegon atleast agreed that house Baratheon 's daughters would make a good match for himor Aemond but told her he would prefer the Sea Sanke's granddaughters Rhaena or Baela.
Her son's defeat of Daemon had already got him into the good graces of Princess Rhaenys but still the Sea Snake rejected her offer. Atleast Vaemond Velaryon and his sons support Aegon with two of Vaemond's sons joined the Order of the Dragon knights. She only wished Rhaenyra would agree to terms once Aegon is crowned King but had a feeling she will fight to the death.
She was awaiting her son as Viserys had summoned them both to his chambers, only the seven can tell what her unhinged son plans to do now. Viserys now hates Aegon ever since that day where Aegon himself proclaimed himself as a prophet of the Seven. She have to play the conciliator everytime father and son come face to face or talk to each other.
Note: Thank you for the comments and the continued support. Will continue the story and there is a slight change in Aemond and Helaena's POV's. We will pick up with POV's of Helaena in White Harbour and Aemond in Storm's End. War is coming soon and I am thinking of including Alys River's as part of Aegon's group. I know many of you wanted Aemond and Helaena pairing, but I'm sorry, it brings no advantage to the Green's though. Do let me know your thoughts on the pairings for Aegon and Aemond.
