Author's Note: *Runs into room waving papers* AYOOOOOOOO, I HAVE RETURNED FROM THE DEAD! =DDDD
Well...not really. I wasn't dead. Just on hiatus but whatever. XDDD
Hey guys! =D Long time no see? Ah, it feels so good to be back from my hiatus. X) I really missed posting new fanfics and you all so much. =') But I needed to take the time off for school (and because I needed a bit of a break, ahaha XD).
Quick summary of what happened in the past month: I'm starting to settle into my virtual ninth grade classroom pretty well. =) AP Biology is the only thing causing me a bit of trouble, but I'm doing mah best to keep up, haha. XD My dual-enrollment college classes have been going along pretty smoothly. ^u^ I just got back from the dentist, so the entire left side of my face is numb (I had two cavities that needed filling =')). Every time I smile I look like I'm in pain (and my sisters have taken the pleasure in bullying meh, hahaha). I was able to get a lot of writing done as well as get to do things I haven't done in a while (I finally got to play Minecraft with mah sisters after, like, forever =)), get some reading and drawing done, and...yeah! My hiatus was very nice overall. X)
I also realized that I forgot to say that I was on hiatus on my profile page, so the entire time I was on hiatus, it said that the hiatus was upcoming and the dates for it. x) Some might of gotten the hint, but I knew that there might of been some confusion. So sorry about that, ya'll. =')
So! You guys probably didn't know this, but I just recently got into the Legend of Zelda Fandom (more specifically Breath of the Wild, since it's the only Zelda game that I've played so far, haha! Skyward Sword, Age of Calamity, Hyrule Warriors, and the upcoming Tears of the Kingdom are on my wishlist though =3). I've been wanting to write a one-shot for this remarkable game for a while now, and I finally managed to do so over my hiatus! ^u^
Now, I'm a complete Zelink shipper, so expect to see some of that referenced a few times throughout this fanfic, hehe. X) With that, I hope you guys enjoy this one-shot! =D

Link…
Open your eyes.
He felt his eyelids begin to crack open. The softness of the mysterious girl's request gave him the energy to open the mountain-heavy eyes that begged to stay close. A bright light filled his vision, and as his sharp blue eyes slowly fluttered open, the tendrils of drowsiness began to slip away.
Wake up, Link.
It took a bit of time, but his eyes eventually adjusted to his surroundings; the glowing pool of water lowered and rested beneath him. Link's eyes flicked around the room. It was then that he willed himself to sit up.
His head felt slightly dizzy, but his thoughts didn't dwell there much. He turned his head, looking this way and that, finding himself inside a room. One that he, frankly, didn't recognize. There was no one there but him, but that voice…
The voice he had heard; she had spoken to him, hadn't she? She sounded as if she were so close…Almost in reach. The thought that she wasn't there with him left him feeling unexpectedly despondent. Link couldn't place why that was so. He didn't even know who had called him. Yet he had a feeling that whoever she was…she was important.
Deciding that he had spent enough time wallowing in his thoughts, the young Hylian climbed out of the pool he had previously been resting in. Water dripped from his hair and down his back, and the silent one realized that he was clothed in only a pair of boxers.
The peculiar bed he had been lying in glowed an ethereal blue, then went dark after a moment or two. A strange device lay ahead; it looked like a terminal. Link walked up to it, discovering that something had been left inside.
A small, rectangular object rose from the terminal device. It turned and flipped to its back, the ancient carving of a single eye glowing and beckoning to him. The mysterious voice returned to enlighten him.
That is a Sheikah Slate. Take it, she said kindly. It will help guide you after your long slumber.
Link reached out and took the slate; the screen flicked on, surprising him momentarily. He stared at the gadget intently. He had never seen this curious tablet before, and yet there was something familiar about it. He tried to remember where he could've seen such an object like this, but his mind went blank, making the strange feeling in his gut deepen and the tug in his chest tighter.
The stand sunk back into its place, and a few feet ahead, a door revealed itself. And doing what anyone would do upon spotting an opening, Link walked through it.
Torches lit with the blue glow he had seen in the room before lined the walls of the enshrinement. Crates and other materials laid in the hall. Enigmatic carvings and designs crawled along the walls. Curved stone swirled along the trim of the hall and ceiling. Link vaguely recognized the style, but he couldn't quite place why.
Rummaging through the two chests he had spotted in front of him, Link found a pair of worn trousers and an old shirt. The pant legs were too short, and the shirt was tearing at the seams, but Link deemed they were better than nothing. He felt much more comfortable now that he had clothes on. And he wasn't planning on leaving the strange building without anything proper to wear anyway.
It was as if this place had been perfectly designed just for the moment when he woke up. Link wondered who had brought him to this strange place. And why he had been sent here in the first place. He tried to recall a memory that could answer these questions, but, like an empty jar, his mind was hollow and vacant. He couldn't remember anything before the moment he awoke. And this troubled the young Hylian. Something had happened; he knew for a fact. It was just what happened that he needed to discover.
Once he was sure that he had found everything he thought useful, Link attached the Sheikah Slate to his belt and continued forward. The same glowing terminal device stood next to what Link assumed to be the way out. Upon nearing with the Sheikah Slate on his belt the pedestal glowed a bright orange. The same eye craving etched in its center.
The voice returned.
Hold the Sheikah Slate up to the pedestal…That will show you the way.
Link pulled the Sheikah Slate off his belt and did as the voice had asked. He brushed the slate over the scanner, and the device flicked from orange to blue. After a few seconds, the large door to his left made a thunking noise. Link turned, spotting that the eye carving in its center was glowing the same blue as the terminal was. It popped out of its position, the lock on the door unlocked, and the door lifted open. Warm sunlight pooled in from outside. A staircase leading to the outside, where he hadn't been for 100 years.
And again, that same voice that had been guiding him since he had awoken, returned with a desperate plea. Link…You are the light—our light—that must shine upon Hyrule once again.
The intensity of the sunlight lowered until Link could make out the distant trees and grass that lay outside. The sounds of the wild called—beckoned to him. And that voice…was becoming more and more familiar the more it spoke.
She spoke once more. Her last and final request. Now go.
And so he went. He ran, ran up the stairs, and climbed the boulder that blocked his way. He ran outside, through the door, and stepped into the warmth and light of the outdoors. The warmth and light of the kingdom Hyrule.
The grass brushed against his exposed legs, the soft wind whispering past his cheeks and to the tips of his pointed ears. Link ran until he reached the cliffside, which gave him a breathtaking view of the entire kingdom. His birthplace. His home.
How could have he forgotten all of this?
He could see the high, smokey peak of Death Mountain. The cold, windy peaks that led to Rito Village. The desert wind came from the direction of Gerudo town. The bridges and trails that led to Zora's Domain. And the bold, striking view of Hyrule Castle. A place that Link knew held significant importance in his life.
Link…you're our only hope. The voice was faint. Distant. Like an ancient lullaby from the past…He felt a strange sense of recognition, and he couldn't remember her face. But the name rested on his tongue.
"Zelda…" he whispered.
The voice belonged to Princess Zelda. And he had once been her knight.
Author's Note: I thought it would be nice to start out my comeback with something new. =) This is my first ever Breath of the Wild fanfiction, so go easy on me, haha. XD The beginning of the game is just so wonderfully crafted, and I wanted to delve into Link's personal thoughts and feelings throughout that sequence. I know this one-shot is short, but that's because I'm not 100% confident in my knowledge of Hyrule (I've completed the Sheikah Slate map, freed two Divine Beasts, found all the memories, just solved the last puzzle for Naboris, trying to get the Master Sword while simultaneously doing side quests for rupees and complete shrines...Man, Link and I have lots of work to do =')), but I think I have a pretty good grasp on what's going on. But just to be safe, I decided to start small. Hopefully my Zelda one-shots get longer as I grow more and more comfortable in this fandom! ^u^
...And also expect to see lots of Zelink. These two are just so cute and wholesome; I just can't ignore their lovely relationship. =3
PS: Yes, yes, I know Link doesn't talk in the game since he took an oath of silence...But he does talk to Princess Zelda from what I researched, and he probably speaks to himself on occasion. Also, I'd just be weird to have him say absolutely nothing considering that monsieur Link has a voice, so I intend on bringing it out in my future BOTW one-shots. =)
Thank you guys so much for reading, and I'll see you in my next story! =D
Until the next story!
