Author's note: I don't own the X-Files, JAG, or their characters. I do own Harmony and Kitsune though; if you would like to use them, please ask.

Instantly Friends

Their eyes met from across the room. One asked are you bored too? The other shrugged her response, yes, of course; who wouldn't be? Tucking a strand of fiery shoulder length hair behind her ear, one of the girls made her way over to the refreshment table where the other was standing.

"Hi, I'm Kitsune Rose Mulder," she said.

"Harmony Michelle Rabb," she ran a hand through her short, light brown hair.

Suddenly, they both grinned and formalities were dropped.

"Kit," she offered her nickname.

"Harm."

"You just moved her, right?" Kit asked.

"Yeah, Mom and Dad are the JAGs at the base."

"So they're lawyers. Will you be living on base?"

"No, we've got a house in town."

"Great, maybe we'll see a lot of each other."

"What do your parents do?"

"They work as consultants. Mom's a pathologist, and Dad's a psychologist. They're over there talking with the commander and colonel."

"Those are my parents."

"Navy and Marines, huh? Must make things interesting."

"Sometimes. What school do you go to?"

"Otsuma Middle School."

"Hey, that's were I'm going."

"Cool. You'll probably be in mist of my classes."

"Um, what exactly is this stuff?" Harm asked pointing to a bowl of snacks. At least, she thought they were snacks.

"Those are osembe, rice crackers. The green stuff on some of them is nori, dried seaweed."

"How long have you lived here Kit?"

"All my life; I was born here in Japan. My parents are Americans, but I don't think they plan on returning for more than just a visit."

"Oh. So you're fluent in Japanese?"

"Yes. How much do you know?"

"Some. One of my godmothers is Japanese, but I'm not really fluent."

"Don't worry, it shouldn't take you long to pick it up. Besides, the teachers are good about helping you."

Kit caught sight if something, "Come on."

The girls threaded their way through the clusters of chatting adults.

"Mom, what's up?"

The petite redheaded woman smiled at Kit.

"Kit, this is Sarah Mackenzie-Rabb. Mac, this is my daughter Kitsune." She raised and eyebrow, "I see you've already met Harmony."

"Pleased to meet you ma"am."

"You're welcome to call me Mac Kit." She smiled at her daughter, "Harmony, I see you made a friend."

Harm grinned back, "You know me."

"Do you need me for anything else?" Kit asked.

"Not since you two have already met."

The two girls grinned and scampered off.

"And here I as worried about how they'd get along," Mac said.

"Now we just have to worry about how much trouble they'll get in," Scully replied.
