A large gust of wind whipped fiercely past her; sending mounds of silky blond hair flying into her carefully smoothed features. She shivered; felling its cold hands clamber and slither it's way into her long thick coat.
"Cold?" a deep male voice asked.
Momentary, he stopped what he was doing to
place a warm scarf around her exposed neck.
Alexandria Eames coughed, letting a small smile play softly on her lips. "Kinda, it's windy out."
He said nothing, instead, turned back towards the glittering horizon; once again lost in deep thought.
It had been a while since they'd been here. Awhile since the both of them could truly sit down and reflect on the happenings of the past. Life itself had rocked them, pushing them deep into the chaos of society that so many feared. It scared them as well, watching each day as one another flirted with death, danced around its reaches and darted from its persistent sight.
They saw it claim victims everyday and with this, wondered just how much more sand really was left in the hourglass.
Alex sighed, feeling fatigue beginning to claim her lithe form. "Bobby" she called, almost as silent as a passing breeze.
He nodded towards her, acknowledging his attention.
"Do you like what we do? This-this"
Robert Goren looked down at her, his deep brown eyes searching beneath the usual confides of her mind, probing for what she was to say.
"job?" he finished.
Alex smiled, as usual he was right.
He shrugged, looking back ahead.
This time however, he did not look at her as he spoke. "I suppose. It's what I've always wanted to do right?"
There was a pause and for many minutes nothing but falling leaves from the ancient trees beside them stirred. "Sometimes though, sometimes I get sick of it. It's draining you knowmentally."
Alex turned towards him, desperately trying to find a way to comfort the man that she had grown fond of for the past year. He wasn't just another work mate anymore, instead he was a partner now, a friend in which she could rely on to understand and support her. She thought franticly for an action that could do the same for him, as he had done for her.
Nothing came.
"I'm tired too Bobby" she managed to whisper at last, unconsciously rubbing at the worn railing that ran as a barrier between her and the edge of death; the edge of the cliff before them. "Do-do you think it'll get better?"
He smiled at her then. Taking her cold hands within his large warm ones; as if hoping that his warmth alone would be enough to regenerate her exhausted mind.
"Yes" he replied gazing meaningfully into her chocolate brown eyes. " I believe it just has"
And with that, he pulled her into a tight hug
