Winter Wonderland
Noin was warm, but her nose was cold. She lay snuggled next to her fiancee under several quilts and comforters. She and Zechs were taking a short vacation from their work as Preventers in Ireland.
The woman opened one violet eye; she could see her breath floating in the air. The fire in their little cottage must have gone out. Moving slowly so as not to wake Zechs, Noin slid out of bed. Her feet slipped into sheepskin slippers.
Padding out of the bedroom, a glint caught her eye. She moved her hand so the silver claddagh ring Zechs had given her was in view; its two hands held a sapphire heart.
Zechs had proposed on their last mission. They had been caught in an elevator for eleven hours during which Zechs had proposed. It had been a little embarrassing when the rescue team had discovered them in the middle of a kiss.
She rebuilt the fire. Outside the window a mantle of white covered everything. Once the fire was going well and she had put the kettle on, Noin slipped back into bed. Zechs' warm arms wrapped around her.
"Ohayo koishii."
Good morning love. She smiled at his words and kissed him on the nose.
"Morning yourself love."
Zechs did a through job of kissing her. The kettle whistled.
"It snowed last night," she told him.
The two of them dressed warmly. After breakfast, Zechs suggested they go for a walk. Bundled up against the cold, they ventured out into the snow together. They laughed and talked as they walked through the winter wonderland.
There were no other people out. Whil their cottage was a good five miles from the nearest village, Zechs and Noin usually saw someone druing the day. Not so today.
Today it was just them, the snow, and the wildlife. During their walk, they found a pond that was frozen enough to walk on. They returned to the cottage for lunch, and Noin hunted up two pairs of ice skates.
Noin and Zechs skated together shakily at first but then with more confidence. While Noin was obviously the better skater, Zechs wasn't that bad himself. They simply enjoyed spending time together.
Twilight began to fall as they ambled back to the cottage. Noin scooped up a handful of snow and lobbed it at Zechs. He retailiated, and the fight began. Zechs conceded defeat when she tripped him causing hime to fall into the snow bank he had tossed her into.
Two rosey cheeked, weary, snow covered people returned to the cottage. After getting out of their wt clothes, Zechs built up the fire. The two of them curled up in front of the fire wrapped in a quilt with mugs of steaming hot cocoa.
"Zechs?"
"Hm."
"I love you."
"I love you too Noin."
The two of them fell asleep there in front of the fire tired from their day out in the winter wonderland.
