As your arms wrap me in an impassioned embrace and tears
Dance like fire down my face, burning my cheeks
I know now that I cannot deny my love for you
Your trusting eyes search my visage
Silently conveying the words I have yet to utter
The phrase I have heard moaned in throes of fabricated passion
Intoxicated men slurred it between acerbic kisses
I had never echoed the misused assertion
A proclamation I became indifferent to
And now I know that love has captured me, just as your arms do
For the first time, I speak those words
"I love you."
They are not sung, or whispered, merely affirmed
Amid the pain, unadulterated joy surges into my heart
And a trembling kiss seals our promise.
