"Did it come?" Jenny asked as she walked in the front door. "Mom, I'm home! Did the satellite get installed today?" She dropped her backpack on the floor next to the couch and walked into the kitchen. Opening the refrigerator, she picked up a Coke and pulled a few apples from the crisper to snack on. "Nice and healthy," Jenny muttered, shut the fridge and went back into the living room.
After opening her Coke, she noticed a new remote sitting on the coffee table.
"All right, I wonder if this thing works yet?" she said and plopped down on the couch, set her Coke on the table and pressed POWER. The T.V. lit up.
"Yes! Hey Shannon!" she called to her sister, "The satellite's working, get in here!" she was met with no answer. "Shannon? Oh, well, I guess she's at her friend's house. Too bad for her." Jenny began flipping channels until she came to a favorite show on channel 70.
"Nice reception. Pokémon is coming in great. Way better than an antenna," she said and took a bite of her first apple. "Mmm. Good apple. I have an idea coming on." Reaching over to her backpack, she pulled out a thick green folder and opened it to reveal pages of drawings. Pulling out a clean sheet she produced an array of pens, pencils and erasers from a pocket on her backpack. After arranging everything around her, she began to draw.
Fifteen minutes later she held up a finished sketch.
"Done," Jenny said proudly, "Now to color." She picked up a bright green Crayola pencil and filled in the body of her creation, leaving space for brown and black later. After she finished, she set the drawing on her lap and looked at it.
"I think I'll call you...Quasra," she said after a brief pause and jotted down the name, stats and info on the creature. The finished product looked like a green snake-thing with arms, two sword-like claws protruding from the top of each "hand", a bright green crest on the head and brown and black stripes running down the length of the body, which ended in a particularly deadly-looking scythe.
Setting the picture on the table next to her Coke, she carefully put away all her drawing items and returned to watching her program.
"Oh, this is one I've never seen before," she said and picked up the remote so she could turn up the volume. "I wonder what this button does?" she muttered, looking at a black button labeled "JUMP" at the bottom of the controller.
She pushed it.
